  1. Garmin has a forum for this sharing: https://forums.garmin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=206 KenZ
  2. I have now purchased a CN 2010 SD card and installed it in my Colorado 400t. I can confirm that it functions as expected, even though it is not a listed hardware unit on some Garmin website. Ken Z
  3. The Garmin website does not list the Colorado 400t as a platform for the City Navigator North America product. Since this product works on the Colorado's predecessors Vista and 60csx, and its successor Oregon, I hope and assume that this is an error/omission on the Garmin site. Can someone confirm this before I purchase a product that I actually will not be able to use? Ken Z Boulder
  4. Answer from Garmin Tech Support is that yes, the TOPO Great Britian cards support routiing on roads, just as the DVD version does. KZ
  5. Do the Garmin TOPO Great Britain regional data cards, specifically Scotland, Jan 08 (TGB012R), contain routable road information as well as "many routable trails, tracks and paths" mentioned in the description? I see that "road maps are provided by NAVTEQ™" but it is not clear whether these are routable on my Colorado 400t. Ken Ziebarth Boulder
  6. Thanks for the answer and advice. I have been across before and used a voltage converter for batteries. But I haven't driven, or taken a laptop. My Dell power supply says 240V, but I will certainly confirm before I just buy a conversion plug. Ken
  7. Do cars in Britian use the same 12V electrical system, with the same polarity and accessory socket, as US cars? Can I use my US auto adapter in a British rental car, or do I need a different adapter or just to be sure to always have enough charged batteries on driving days as well as walking days?
  8. Has anyone heard that the recent updates in beta releases being made for Oregon are going to be made for Colorado as well? Maybe after they clear beta on Oregon?
  9. I'm actually a little relieved to see the issues with the GB raster maps. I was having trouble justifying spending more on 6 or 8 GPS map chips than on plane fare for my upcoming trip to Scotland. I'll just go with my old City Nav maps and paper OS maps. Ken Z Boulder
  10. I have a lanyard in addition to the caribiner. I keep the lanyard around my neck so GPS can't fall if dropped. I clip the caribiner to shoulder pack strap when hiking so it rides high with good reception, unhook it to view. Ken
  11. In TOPO! use the Handhelds/Change GPS Settings menu item. In the dialog box, choose Receiver Type. Set Make: Garmin. Model: (None of the Above) if you have a Colorado. Add the Characters you want to the list, the default is all CAPS, -, +, and space. Change the Max Size of Waypoint Name, I think the default was 10, I made it 50. Ken Z
  12. Isn't it just possible that one of the reasons for this update is to keep 'certain custom maps' from working? Ken Z
  13. My original eTrex Vista was small enough that I could use a small bungee and put it on top of my 'fedora' style hiking hat while keeping its lanyard around my neck. I'm tall enough I didn't even get too many funny looks! GPSMap 76 rode, and now Colorado rides on my packstrap at shoulder height, 76 in a little accessory pouch, Colo just hanging on its caribiner. For both of those I also kept/keep the lanyard fastened to the pack in case of dropsy. All is well. Ken Z
  14. The Delorme - National Geographic TOPO! software provides this capablility. If you want to scan a small part of some printed map and use that check out www.gpsu.co.uk. KenZ
  15. A shareware product called GPSU, GPS Utility, from England, allows scanned maps to be registered on the screen to its background map. You can then download gpx or other files and see them on your scanned maps. But it does not upload scanned (raster) or any other maps to your GPSr. As stated above, raster maps on a GPSr size screen are minimally readable at any useful scale. I haven't seen this product mentioned in these forums before, [now I have done a search and see it frequently mentioned, kz] but I have used it for the above described activities for several years though many updates and found it reliable and usable for what it does. When I tried the new 'spanner' tracking system with my Colorado it seemed to overflow memory space after about 30 points and shut down the application. I guess another update is needed for that activity. And I would expect it to be forthcoming. www.gpsu.co.uk Ken Z Boulder
  16. Copy of my SHORT posting to the 2.51 Beta track, on this subject: As an 'eyeball alternative' to software averaging, zoom in as close as possible and watch the current track develop. If it jumps around during the time you want to wait, put your 'averaged waypoint' at the apparent center of the jumping. And the size of the zig-zag area is a good measure of your position 'accuracy'. Actually it's the reliability, it could be reliably inaccurate. KenZ

  18. Edit: Google Earth also supports Garmin PVT GO$Rs When I just checked, it's only available to subscribers to Google Earth Plus. Might be worth it?? Ken Z
  19. I'll try to resist 2.51, at least until the weekend, waiting for a full release. Meanwhile, should I expect the 'Spanner' mode will show my position in MapSource, like my Vista and 76CS did? Off topic, but BTW, the time at the bottom of the forum, and in the message timestamps shows 7:30 when my PC clock shows (correctly) 9:30 MDT. Is the forum on Yukon Daylight Time?? Ken Z Boulder
  20. When it's ready, and NOT before. The last thing we need is more issues! KenZ
  21. Certainly the first reader of these forums that notices an upgrade available would post it here IN BIG LETTERS for the rest of us! Ken Z
  22. I don't think I have seen this idea in the forum before. If you create a directory on your SD Card, parallel to the Garmin directory, not under it, you can store .gpx files there without the Colorado seeing them. This way you can have many .gpx files without having to scroll through multiple tracks or waypoints to find the ones you want. You can then copy/move the .gpx files you want to use at any time over into the Garmin/GPX directory, and move them back into the library when you don't need them.
  23. Got it! Works great! No more responses needed. Thanks Ken Z
  24. How can I tell MapSource to look on a hard drive for my US TOPO Version 3 maps instead of requiring the cd in drive d:? When I installed US and European MetroGuide the maps were copied to the hard drive and are always available there (although it would be nice to move them over to an external also). Ken Z
  25. I bought both my good old 76cs and my great new Colo 400t from them. Very quick and responsive, highly recommended. And the $$ is right! Ken Ziebarth
