    Cache Ratings

Toz said: Okay, this idea is the only one I have seen that I can support. Even though Amazon uses it to sell me all kinds of stuff.
  2. Okay, I did not know that. I always assumed the .1 mile rule held for all caches. Well I'll be... ya' learn something every day.
  3. Cool CR, but this part made my head hurt trying to read: "BTW, something found cool the admin have implemented on this site.." Which I think is: "BTW, I found something cool [that] the admins have implemented on this site..."

    Cache Ratings

Me too. Please say "NO" to a cache rating system. Thanks.
  5. Please point out the rule or guideline that you think prohibits TB prisons. I think Hula might be referring to something like this (from the TB Faq page): My take is that TBs are meant to travel (hence the "Travel" part of "Travel Bug") and that these prisons are basically preventing them from travelling. This is contrary to the intent TBs in general.
  6. No. Additional Logging Requirements is not sanctioned by Groundspeak. Suggestions would be fine but forcing someone to do a little dance for a "find" is, IMO, silly. If you found it you found it. If we had a "completed a task" log type it would make more sense. Shouldn't reviewers deny ALR caches then?
  7. I honestly had no idea Alaska was that big, assuming the pic is accurate. Just wow!
  8. I really prefer low-difficulty caches to have hints. There is nothing that is more maddening than going to a 1.5 cache and not being able to find it. A small hint that confirms the suspect location, such as "stone wall", "roots", "near ground" etc. can make all the difference between having a good time and having a bad time.
  9. When the GPS says the cache is 1 foot away it just means that that is its best guess. Typically the cache can be anywhere from 10 to 30 feet away (or farther) from where the GPS thinks it is. You need to expand your search area and you should start with caches that are rated with a low difficulty level. Another good thing would be if you could hook up with an established cacher and have them show you the ropes (although this is not necessary). Hope this helps.
  10. I dont see why you can't change both the name and location? Am I missing something?
  11. Well they did allow their logo to be obscured by the mountain on the Vermont coin.
  12. I wonder what cachers south of the equator do??? Do they use magnetic south or true south?
  13. Oh, this is fun: I'll save you the trouble, it says: "A swan among ducks"
  14. The only idea I have is to post an armed guard by the cache to make sure the trades happen. Otherwise everything will just get stolen. Good luck.
  15. I think what you are trying to do is impossible. What is to keep someone from putting in a quarter or a half dollar or something?
  16. Guess that means NFA is going to jail. I will come visit ya!
  17. Is there any progress being made on the second half of the set? Or is the project being scrapped?
  18. I was thinking that after you turn on the backlight once, then it times out, you just need to hit one of the direction buttons (or any other button) and the light comes on with no slider at the preferred lighting level. could be mistaken...
  19. On you last question I have to admit I don't know. If I am driving looking for caches I put the gps on the map page and zoom out as far as I want to go from the main highway. Then when I see something interesting I just do a find geocache.
  20. This won't help much but: 1) I think if you turn on the backlight then just wait the slider goes away. I don't think there is a setting to change this. But you shouldn't need to move the slider. 2) I don't think you can change the geocaching icons as a whole. For individual caches you can change the icon but if you do it no longer recognizes them as unfound (closed box icon) or found caches (open box). 3) I don't believe either the Etrex Yellow or Blue did any waypoint averaging. I use the averaging on the 60CSx to get a good value when I place a cache. When you use it it tells you how many readings it has taken and what the estimated accuracy is. If you do 100 to 200 readings you can get pretty good results (under 20 feet).
  21. Nope. You can't post new logs to locked caches. Are you ready to give up all your locationless cache finds? OP has no locationless finds.
  22. Phone-A-Friend: Calling someone with your cell phone when you are looking for a cache to get help finding it.
