  1. rustynails, you've posted 3 times over this weekend. No one is going to look at this until Monday at least. Chill.
  2. The UpdateTool.exe file is probably corrupted. Download it again.
  3. The page has some Javascript that will resize that box to show the full content, once the content is finished loading. Problem is, because of some broken image links on your profile, the page never finishes loading. Go back and edit your profile to fix or remove the image links (several right near the top) and then it will work properly.
  4. You missed at least one. About a half hour ago, this cache was posted to a Facebook group, and the preview said "403.6 Forbidden: IP address of the client has been rejected"
  5. I have a proof-of-concept script working that completely removes the warning popup and allows click and ctrl-click to work properly. I need to do some more testing before I release it, in case it has any adverse side-effects. If anyone knows of any profiles that make use of JavaScript events on links (other than FindStatsGen), I'd appreciate it if you could send me a link to the profile.
  6. I would do exactly the opposite. The free app, when used with a Premium membership, shows all the caches. And you get so many other things with the PM. The only thing I don't get is an app that supports Pocket Queries, but I have my GPS for that.
  7. If you point your mouse in the lower-right corner of the Bio input box, you can click and drag it as large as you want. Edit to add it works in Chrome and Firefox. Internet Explorer, again, leaves us wanting more.
  8. Go to the shop and buy a Premium Membership Gift Card.
  9. No you do not have to create multiple queries. Yes, there is an easier way. On the Pocket Query page, scroll down to the bottom, and click the "Add to Queue" button under the "My Finds" heading. This will run a special query that gets ALL your finds, regardless of quantity, distance or archive status.
  10. Consumer GPS devices are inherently inaccurate. And they're not even repeatable. If you're within 20-30 feet of the cache, you're good. Read this article for a good explanation.
  11. Please note that notifications are not based on your home coordinates. Rather, each notification can be based on a different set of coords. So you can get notifications for new caches at home, work and grandma's house. You'll have to edit each notification to set new (home) coords.
  12. Have you tried calibrating your compass? On one unit I had in the past, I had to calibrate the compass almost daily.
  13. Wow. I must say I'm floored. I just opened a new geocaching.com map window and on a whim, performed a hard-refresh. My jaw dropped. It now has the new v3.22 controls! So now I have 2 tabs in Firefox, one that clearly shows the geocaching.com google map with the old controls, and one with the new controls. Given the dev's history, I am absolutely floored that they did the right thing so quickly. I wonder if the change was in response to my post above, or if the change happened sometime in the last couple of days, and I didn't see it until I forced a refresh? At any rate, I thank you guys!
  14. Yes, it is, but the issue that started this thread was that Google released a new version (v3.22) or the API that changed the default position and appearance of many of the controls on the map. One of these changes, the position of the map type selector, moved it to the far left where it was hidden by the slidebar. In order to fix that hidden control, the devs took the easy way out and simply set a flag (see "Opting out of the new controls in v3.22" on the this page) on the Google map that reverted the controls back to their previous positions and appearance. As noted in the 2nd large blue box on that page, this flag will stop working in August 2016. I'm trying to be helpful in making sure that this issue is fixed correctly by embracing the new controls and where needed, repositioning them appropriately. It would be smart to do this as part of normal development, instead of having to fix this same problem again after v3.22 is obsoleted. Another advantage to using the new controls earlier is consistency in appearance of Google maps across all map products we use.
  15. I see that the dev team has "fixed" this by setting a flag to "opt out" of the new changes to Google Maps. Seeing how that flag will stop working in August 2016, I hope that the dev team will properly update the maps to embrace the new controls before then. It would be nice to have consistency across all the Google map products I use, but currently Groundspeak continues to be an outlier. Moun10bike, can you please make sure that this issue is scheduled to be fixed properly before August 2016, preferably sooner rather than later.
  16. Hopefully what you're trying to do is not possible. I don't want to see animated gifs in cache page logs or in the forums. Thank you Groundspeak for blocking these!
  17. Do some research and figure out how many caches are within walking distance of the docks. If there's not enough, consider renting a car or hiring a car and driver. When we went on a cruise to Alaska, we determined there was only a few caches near the docks. So when we got into port, we went to the line of taxis and hired one for a flat rate for 4 hours. At one place we did 6 hours and found all 27 caches in the entire town, up to 8 miles from the docks. If the first driver you talk to balks, go to the next driver. If the driver doesn't speak your language, move on. You need to communicate directions, and it's nice to get some local info (amateur tour guide stuff) so you need a driver that speaks your language. In 6 ports, we only found one driver unwilling to be hired for a flat fee. Most were very happy as they usually only get a few short fares all day long. You could also contact the local taxi or tour companies ahead of time, but then the company wants a cut. We found the best rates can be had by face-to-face bargaining.

  19. Little-known secret: When using a 60/62/64 near water, use lightweight lithium batteries. The difference in weight actually makes these units buoyant! (Of course the weight of a steel carabiner may negate the battery weight advantage.)
  20. The Street View script has been updated to work again now that the cache pages load via https. Install the script Original post:
  21. Once you get within 10 feet, put the GPS or phone away, and start looking.
  22. Thanks Lep. Both of those issues have been corrected.
  23. I have split the bookmark list into two.. Geocaches Where Dead Bodies Have Been Found and Geocachers Who Have Died While Geocaching. Since I just started the 2nd list it's rather short (6 caches). My search-fu is failing me. If anyone can remember any others not already on the list, please post a link to any prior forum threads, news articles, caches, and/or profiles.
