  1. Thanks Gorak. Please pass me the contact.
  2. Another potential content item: Geocacher Of The Month, The Human Side of Geocaching
  3. Sounds like a good idea for a weekly/monthly newsletter
  4. I was just about to do a little Xmas shopping and pick up some GC accessories and started shopping around. The prices seem quite a bit higher from our Canadian distributors so I thought, in this case, I would order directly from GC.com, but it appears that this isn't possible for us canucks! Some of the things I'm looking at include: Geocaching Reflective Sandwich Bill Cap gpscentral: CAD$26.95 groudspeak: US$15.99 (~CAD$21.00) Tech + Nature T-Shirt - Navy* 2XL gpscentral: CAD$26.95 groudspeak: US$14.99 (~CAD$19.50) *The new Cardinal and Olive colours don't appear to be available in Canada. Prices are close at gpscity.ca too. When all was said and done, my order at GC.com came to CAD$95 and at gpscentral.ca came to CAD$130, not including shipping/handling/duty where applicable. I've dealt with gpscentral.ca several times in the past and have always found them extremely helpful. It just seems, in this case, that the Canadian markup is excessive, and I - like many of my fellow geocachers I'm sure - have limited financial resources, especially at this time of the year. Enough of my whining. (1) Does anyone know of a way to order directly from Groundspeak and have items shipped to Canada? (2) Does anyone know why the Canadian distributors have marked up the accessories so much? If this has been discussed here before, please Markwell me!
  5. Thanks alot MrP, but I couldn't have done it with out you! You'll be in the century club any day now I'd expect. Now, if we could just find a cache machine event that was close.... .... what's that? No dear, I'm not on the computer doing that GeoCaching thing... I'm just finishing a quick note to MrP.... Got to run!
  6. Congratulations DirtRunner! We bagged our 100th find on Nov 11th at Pier Pressure and look forward to the next 100! Our first cache was on May 17th of this year, which puts us at 1 cache every 1.78 days. We were quite proud of ourselves and hope to eventually find as many as this über cacher. I wonder what the max number of finds is for one cacher anyway? I concur with your observations, only would add this: 12) The chances of bumping into a surprised geomuggle is directly proportional to the speed and noise made crashing out of the bush and back on to the trail.
  7. Here, here. EasyMPS is the easiest way to go!
  8. Now that there is a locationless cache listing, does that mean that they will now be accepted again? PS. Did I miss the announcement on the new listing for these? Looked through the Geocaching Announcements forum but didn't see anything. No matter where you go, there you are
  9. Looks like the locationless page is up now. No matter where you go, there you are
  10. Noticed the same thing earlier this month and posted in another thread. Didn't seem to get noticed by TPTB though, so perhaps I should have started a new thread like you did Gorak. I've actually thought of using a new encrypting algorithm (e.g. ROT6 or ROT14 ) until this gets fixed. No matter where you go, there you are
  11. Just noticed that BCIT is offering a course called SURV 0129 - Recreational GPS. Anybody know whose teaching this course (i.e. anybody around here)? No matter where you go, there you are
  12. Alright Vancouver, we're still looking for Über cachers (yes, I know I spelt it wrong the first time, but I missed the window of opportunity to edit it the first time ) to take a couple of TBs east quickly. We're at 6 days and counting down. Doesn't anybody know of someone going east that could pick these guys up on the greater Vancouver area and transport them to another province? Tick, tick, tick.... No matter where you go, there you are
  13. You can get some sample GPX files from www.topografix.com/gpx_sample_files.asp. You will want to read the other stuff on the GPS eXchange Format too, like the applications that you can use with GPX files. Try some of this out first and then decide if it adds something to how you geocache. I think you'll be convinced that it is worth it. No matter where you go, there you are
  14. Just in case nobody has seen these before, here are a couple of links: www.toyblowgun.com www.marshmallowguns.net search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?query=marshmallow+gun Now, I'm wondering how these can be packaged small enough to fit into a zip log bag in a cache? Or is joefrog's design a mini version of these? Maybe Joel could post a pic of his? No matter where you go, there you are
  15. quote:Originally posted by Pharmadude:A new "Pocket Analog 5-function Multimeter" (Now if I can only figure out what to do with it!) Ya, saw that in possibly the same cache too. Thought to myself - wow, now that's cool, but how do you use it? Decided to leave it for someone who could figure it out and use it more than me. I have to say that I picked up a Pharmadude button at one of my first caches. Don't know if its the coolest thing I've found, but I have a huge grin everytime I open a cache and see the button there, instantly recognizing that Pharmadude has been there already. Along the same line, I will definately grab SylvrStorm's chain-mail if its in the cache. Maybe one day I'll have enough to make something with it. No matter where you go, there you are
  16. Thanks for considering this Jeremy. In the interest of not lengthening the listings pages, perhaps you could link from the log date listed for each cache find: No matter where you go, there you are
  17. I don't know if this has been requested before or not. I couldn't see anything as I quickly browsed through the logs, so here goes: With the ability to link directly to log entries now, I was wondering if we could have these links added to the cache listings for individual users. This would mean that if someone for example looked at my User Stats page for Multi-Caches they would be able to not only link directly to the cache page, but instead could link directly to just my log entry. Not that my log entries are particularly interesting... I'm just using me as an example. Sometimes I look at another players stats and want to see just their logs for caches that they've done. Right now I go to the cache page, scroll down to see if they are still listed on the page and then possibly click on the 'View them all on one page' link and try to find them in a huge list. I don't know if anybody else does this or if it is just me, but I seem to be doing this more and more recently. No matter where you go, there you are
  18. quote:Originally posted by The Wet Coast Explorers: Anyone know the state_id for BC? Better yet, why doesn't GC.com just build in easy access for features like this? Oops, answered my own question. Need to remember to look before posting . It's been a while since I searched by country I guess. When you go to the search for caches in Canada page, you get a State/Province dropdown. Reverse engineered and discovered that http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?state_id=64 works for BC. 19. Ah, love these secret tricks of GC.com! Anyone know the state_id for BC? Better yet, why doesn't GC.com just build in easy access for features like this? No matter where you go, there you are
  20. Okay all you ubber-cachers out there, I've got a desperate request for some help here. I rescued the Canadian Torch TB today from Up, Up and Away. This poor little TB is a part of the 2003 Great Canadian Coast to Coast TB Race which is apparently coming to an end in less than two weeks. This TB has only travelled a whopping 14.49 miles so far, taking second prize for the least distance travelled. I'm not a participant in this race, just a race fan - that is, I don't own any of the TBs currently in the race, but have come across a few in the wilds and have tried to help out where I can. What I'm proposing to do for this poor little TB is arrange to pass him on to someone who can guarantee the ability to move him to another province - any province - before the race is over. I'll drop him in a mutually accessible cache, just let me know where and we can work out the when. Drop me an email if you want to help this TB out. And remember, I'm looking for someone who can get him out of the province, not just placed in another cache close to a highway/airport where he can continue to collect mold. Come on you guys, let's rally behind this underdog and give him a helping hand to get back in the race! No matter where you go, there you are
  21. WCoaster/Boreal Jeff/White Owl, As we quickly approach the end date of the race, I'm looking through the forum and there are a number of posts to extend the race. Is there any official word on this yet? I checked the race site but didn't see anything posted there on this topic. I was thinking of heading out to Up, Up and Away today and noticed that Canadian Torch is still there, logging a whopping 14.49 miles so far and taking second prize for the least distance travelled (other than the ones that never even seemed to start the race). There's no hope for this TB unless the race is significantly extended. So, what's the official ruling of the Rules Committee? No matter where you go, there you are
  22. The one and only GPSr I've owned so far is a Garmin GPSmap76s. I've had it about 6 months and it's been good so far. The electronic compass can be a bit annoying at times though - it displays a message saying that the GPSr needs to be held level and the message only goes away when it is held on an angle of about 25%. If you aren't holding it just right, the e-compass reading is off. I also carry a regular compass and sometimes just turn off the e-compass and orient the GPSr using the regular compass when it is particularily difficult to get an accurate reading with the e-compass. The other problem that I've run into with it is loading maps for the USA. The 24 MB of memory quickly became a huge limitation when I started loading maps for a US trip. I was considering the Magellan Meridian Platinum at the time that I got the GPSmap76S and I'm now wondering if that would have been a better choice for me. Oh well. No matter where you go, there you are
  23. GPS Central is the way to go. Got mine from there promptly and have shopped from there since with good service. Alternatively there is http://gpscity.ca/ although I've never dealt with them myself. No matter where you go, there you are
  24. I like the new changes to the watchlist mail. However, I just noticed that when a log entry is encrypted, when we get the email in our inbox it is no longer encrypted. Was this intentional? It kind of defeats the purpose of offering the encryption feature I think. No matter where you go, there you are
