I have an Explorist 210 and it works just fine for caching. If I would have had the $ at the time, I'd recomend the 500. It has just been discontinued by Magellan, but it has the color screen and can take up to a 2GB SD card for more storage space...... I have never used the other models you are referring to......

I have the Magellan eXplorist 210 and it works just fine for caching. A few people here have mentioned lateley that because the eXplorist 500 has been discontinued, that some stores are selling it as low as $80. Also a tip that might help, when my friend and I go caching, sometimes we have to make ourselves put the GPS away when we get close and use our intuition to look in logical hiding spots.... Hope this helps Tracy of Dick'N'Tracy

The friend I always cache with has the crossover. If you use GSAK, open the file you received from your query, then go to the GPS menu, export to magellan Xplorist and change the required format to Explorist POI file and you'll get a .upt file that can go in the crossover on a SD card. She's never had to use the Babel converter...... Tracy

Just wanted to get some opinions. I teach at our local community college and approached campus police for permission to place a cache on school property. They hemmed and hawed about it an still haven't made a decision. There are a few other caches on other community college property in the area. Anyone else have a problem with permission from the local community college about placing a cache? Maybe I should speak to a different department? I just figured campus police would be the right dept to ask so they don't wonder what people are poking around in the wooded areas on campus for...... Think I'm going to go back to them with a list of the other schools around here that have caches and see if that helps..... Any more ideas, advice or comments? Tracy of Dick'N'Tracy

I have the Explorist 210 and I assume that's what they're referring to when they say the 200 is discontinued. Their site doesn't show a 200 model.... Anyway, anyone notice that the Explorist XL isn't on the list... maybe that's the only Explorist they're going to keep so there is at least 1 Explorist model still out there? I've been looking at the Crossover on Ebay. My friend I usually cache with just received it for Christmas. Magellan web site says it's 499, but most places have it for 399. Her husband picked it up at Walmart on sale for $289! I was watching a few on Ebay and some have gone for as low as $190 with $25 shipping. We've used it for driving directions as well as caching and love it. Have to say the only drawback is she also just got a new computer and it wont work with Vista but she just does everything with her SD card instead. Still loving my Explorist 210 for now. Hey, it does what it's supposed to do (help me find caches!), and I haven't had any problems with it yet (fingers crossed). Just my .02...... Tracy

CacheMagnet Geocaching Software
Dick'n'Tracy replied to Cuckoo Cachers's topic in GPS technology and devices
Ok, one last question (I promise)...... Will your CacheMagnet work with the Magellan Crossover? I noticed that all it asks for to transfer to a GPS is what port, and Garmin or Magellan.... Thanks! Kristen -

Can Cachemagnet be used to send the files to a blackberry like a Verizon phone for paperless caching or will it only work for an actual GPS or IPOD??? Thanks, Kristen -

Every time you send waypoints to your IPod it overwrites waypoints that are already there. The trick is to combine the two queries BEFORE you send them to your IPod. Load the first query into CacheMagnet, then import the second query with "Waypoint / Import...". You'll have the two queries loaded and you'll be able to send them together to your IPod. Hope this helps. Brian -

CacheMagnet Geocaching Software

I downloaded this and it looks great!!! I'm so excited to send info to the IPOD and try paperless caching! Have just one issue (can anyone help?) I sent info to the IPOD for one query. I try to send info from another query, and it erases the first set of info.... I tried making subfolders on the IPOD and sent each query info to the appropriate folder, but now they are all empty? Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Kristen (Tracy of Dick'N'Tracy) -
Any other opinions about how good or bad it is for caching? Can you import a query? Thanks in advance! Kristen

What's the perfect gift for a Geocacher?
Dick'n'Tracy replied to Hobo2's topic in General geocaching topics
I have one of those hydration packs and it is my main "caching bag". It isn't a Camelback brand, but a no name one I got a BJs (superstore club) for $20. It works great, and has tons of extra pockets and compartments to store GPS, batteries, cache swag etc. Very comfortable to wear on your back.... I highly suggest one! My friend uses a full size back pack and finds it too bulky and it gets caught on things when bushwacking..... Just my 2 cents..... Tracy -

Help with multi cache coordinates?
Dick'n'Tracy replied to Dick'n'Tracy's topic in GPS technology and devices
Thanks so much! I'll give it a try! Kristen -
Wondering if anyone can help? I have a eXplorist 210 and when doing multicaches, wondering how I manually enter the coordinates to the next cache site while I'm out in the woods? I'm hoping I don't have to take them home and enter them on the computer and transfer them over... Isn't there a way to put them into the GPS manually so I can go right to the next point? Thanks for any help! "Tracy" aka Kristen
