  1. I think this is a great idea, please post a pic of the TB here for all to see, I would love to track this one. I would put in a phone call to the tavern and talk to the owner. If he knew this was more of a tribute to HST he would probably be more interested. I've spent countless hours reading and rereading "Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas". So much so, that I really need a new copy. I've enjoyed most of HST's books, "Better Than Sex"....wasn't. However, "The Curse of Lono" was amazing. Oh, how much I miss Ralph Steadman. Great.....this thread is going to make me go back and read "The Great Shark Hunt" again. Scoob
  2. Looking for someone from Long Island to help. You will also get to log a find. I'm wanting to log the Where's in a name cache by Crusso. Please take a look at the cache page for more information. I've generated my first coord as 73°06.243. is anyone over there close enough to run out and snap a pic? We will both be able to log the find. Thanks, Scoobie
  3. I'll join you in that minority. I do believe that there is something to be said for the spirit of the guideline. This seems wrong. Okay, "wrong" might not be the proper word here. Lets use; This seems goofy. I like the idea of one cam, one listing. Frankly, I'm suprised that we are in the minority. Scoob
  4. I use QuakeMap. All I did was put in the coords and measure the distance. I know you won't be able to see the detail in this pic but it will give you a good idea of what you can see with this program. Scoob
  5. I know this might be reaching a bit but here goes: I'm trying to log this cache and my north coord is: N72 66.243. So far the best I can do is Greenland but there are only a couple of caches there so I'm unsure how many cachers there are in the area. Is there anyone in Greenland that can give me some help? I think I'm going to have to use Greenland because N72 puts me out in the water in most places. Thanks, Scoobie
  6. This was not my frist find but my second. The In the Wind Cache was the site of my first official trade. I took a magnet that read "Olney Illinois, Home of the White Squirrel" and left a $1 gift cert from DQ. Thanks for taking me back. Scoobie
  7. Welcome! It's great to have you among ranks. The legend is a great choice and I'm sure you'll be happy with it. There is some great information here on the boards and I'm sure you've picked up lots of tid bits as well. There are also some good websites out there with tips and tricks for the newbie cacher. Here's mine. I hope you find geocaching to be as fun as it is for us. Scoobie
  8. Only when they are lightly breaded then deep fried on a stick. Scoob
  9. I can't believe you tried it without a trial run through. Yeesh.
  10. I don't remember where this one was but I don't think it was in OK. I might have been down south. If memory serves, they had to archive the cache because it was placed on a railroad and derailed a train full of toxic chemicals. Very messy. Scoob
  11. I had a lot of fun reading the logs for Sloof Lirpa last year. I wish we could still see the cache page, it would be fun to read them again. If I remember correctly, CarleenP was enjoying herself a little too much. I think she kept mentioning... beer. Scoob
  12. Are there any Sloof Lirpa's today? Scoob
  13. There is something about this idea that I like although I can't put my finger on it just yet. Not so much the airport event idea but the possibility of being able to say "I'm traveling here on this day and have a few TB's with me for exchange." I know this can be done in regional forums just by posting the information but the idea has me thinking about a way gc.com could formalize the process and broadcast the information on a wider scale. Thinking...... Scoobie
  14. You can buy the Etrex Legend (blue) from Amazon.com for $138.94 and free shipping. They are also running a deal where you can sign up for their credit card and get an additional $30 off. $108.94 plus free shipping for the Legend is an excellent deal. In my opinion it's a much better purchase than the Yellow for several reasons. Cord, memory and maps are the big three. If you really get into geocaching, the palate gets sophisticated pretty fast when it comes to to equipment. Scoobie
  15. All of these great pics make mine seem pretty tame, but here ya go anyway. Scoob
  16. Mine is set to off as well. My pointer doesn't always in the opposite direction, sometimes it 90 degrees off either left or right. This doesn't happen all the time but it does happen MOST of the time. It always works fine when I'm in the truck and driving but when I start walking it just goes nuts. I've tried recalibration and sometimes that helps but it usually goes back to problem fairly quick. I've also tried turning the unit off when I arrive at the parking location then turning it back on as I'm walking to the cache. This helps sometimes....but not always. It's a very strange problem. 17. I found The Journal almost a year ago. It took 10 hours and about 13 miles of hiking and we finished it in one day. It requires no special equipment for SCUBA or boating or anything else for that matter. Just long hikes over rough terrain, code breaking and problem solving. It really is an awesome cache and is worth the drive from almost anywhere to find it. Scoob
  18. I would have to pick The Journal for the midwest. A true 5/5. Scoob
  19. I recently installed the update hoping it would address the above issue but it hasn't. This is really causing me trouble. Someone posted a reply to my statement above regarding "Off road" recalculating and that hasn't fixed the problem either. Does anyone have an idea I could try or maybe having the same problem? Thanks, Scoobie
  20. You found the cache. Albeit melted, charred and scorched......you still found the cache. Log that baby. Scoob
  21. I've always loved this one: After reading his log I went to inspect the cache. After I confirmed the cache was MIA, I posted this: The cacher saw my post and changed his No Find to a Found since he was in the general area of the cache even though it wasn't there. I sent a note to the cacher asking him why he would log a find when there was nothing there. His response was "I found the location where the cache was supposed to be. I'm sure we both have better things to worry about". I agreed with the latter part of that statement and dropped the issue considering I wasn't the cache owner. In the cachers defense, he posted this several months later: Names have been deleted to protect the guilty Scoob
  22. I was lucky enough to come down on January 29th and find a bunch of the caches in the park including "Remembering Rose Island". It's sad that no one else will be able to go on such a great trek again. It was one of my favorite finds. Scoob
  23. I really wish this could be a problem for me because there are some caches that I might rule out. However, since there are not enough caches in my area for me to be picky....I hunt them all. Scoob
