  1. Go to Amazon and fill out their credit card app to get $30 off your next purchase. Then purchase the Garmin Etrex Legend for $103 after $30 discount. Now go to ebay and buy a Palm III for $30. You really can't do much better for under $150 than this. It's everything you neeed and the best part is the Legend comes with a cable so you can download all caches straight to the GPS. Scoob
  2. I'm going through a Ray Charles phase right now.
  3. Wow, and I thought I was the only guy who knew about Social Distortion. Very cool. Scoob
  4. My Personal favorite is Burl's Treasure Burl came home for a visit and I was able to meet him when I was a little kid. I couldn't believe that I was meeting Sam the Snowman! Scoob
  5. I started out using one of Diablo's hiking sticks which I love but it doesn't fit in my truck. Then santa got me the Sherlock Staff a few years ago for christmas: It's great and now has some serious miles on it. Recently I've seen many people using something along the line of a ski pole for hiking. I use to spend my Christmas and New Year's in Aspen skiing (Ohhhh.....those were the days) until my legs were mush, so I dug out my ski poles and am now doing a little test to see how I like using them on dirt as opposed to snow. Here's a pic:
  6. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about but I would like to make a couple of points: Rome, the cache owner, has done a great job creating this cache. I'm fairly certain that most of you don't know and understand the placement here but let me see if I can explain. The cache is located at the intersection of I-70 & I-57, two of this countrys major interstates, and is the perfect place for a TB hotel. It's had great traffic and has served as a perfect location for TB's to be picked up and make a long distance run. The TB's weren't "stuck" in this cache because they hadn't been there very long. I don't see why having several TB's in a cache is a problem. If they were in a 5/5 cache that only had a couple of finders a year would be a different story but they were all short timers placed in a cache that has seen over 125 logs in a year. They didn't need to be "rescued". Personally, I don't care if someone took a bunch a TB's as long as they made sure to pursue their goals. However, I do have a problem with trashing the cache owner when he's only guilty of placing a good cache that happend to have a bunch of TB's in it. Now for my issue. Shunra posted the following on the cache page of a nearby cache........owned by me. This is bad form and the log will be deleted. I see that it's also been posted on the pages of other area caches and I will urge the owners to delete those logs as well. I see no reason to "warn" area cachers of the evils's of Rome when no such evil exists. What purpose could this serve? For someone a few thousand miles away to post this when they don't have all the necessary information is in bad taste. I've known Rome for many years and he has made a significant contribution to this game and is well respected in this area. He's placed good caches, he's worked for the education of law enforcment about caching and always been very respectful of others caches. He certainly doesn't deserve to be treated so poorly in this thread. I'm not sure why he's done it, but this non-issue has just caused 18 of our area caches to be disabled and that's very sad. Scoob
  7. I vote for a Buff. Butch Lockley was on survivor a couple of years ago and being the principle of the grade school where my daughter attends, buffs were everwhere and I ended up with one. I love it. The only hitch is, it needs to be made from the same microfiber material. It's the material that allows it to be used all those different ways. It also came with a standard set of instructions that demonstrated how to tie and use the buff which was pretty cool. A caching buff would be nice. Scoob
  8. I'm sure I can beat 43 minutes, however I don't know the actual amount of time. ILAdmin has always approved my caches in very short order. I'm sure one of them was less than 20 minutes. He's also been very helpful with providing his thoughts on different ideas I've had and answers all my goofy questons. Of course, I have to pay him my lunch money three times a week but I think it's worth it. Scoob
  9. I hope this all comes together for you Sax, even though 1000 trumpets would be cooler. Strike that......make it 1000 soprano bugles from my drum corps days. Now THAT would be something to hear!
  10. A beautiful sunrise that I captured just before I started a full day of caching with Duncan Idaho. Scoob
  11. Interesting.....I guess I can see where that makes sense. Thanks for the insight, Closing up shop now. Scoob
  12. Why is there a difference in caches found and number of records? Scoob I'd be willing to bet you have 2 Locationless finds. edit: Yup, you do. They don't show up on the "All Cache Finds" list. Any particular why they don't show up? That doesn't make much sense.
  13. If you look at my finds, you'll see that I'm currently sitting at 632. If you click on "User Stats" and then click "All Cache Finds" you will see a list of all my finds, however the "Number of Records" reads 630. Why is there a difference in caches found and number of records? Scoob
  14. I've been caching hard for the last nine months: 1.15 caches per day. Not a bad way to spend my life. Scoob
  15. I've always gotten a good deal at Cheper Than Dirt. I buy 6 .30 cal cans for $19.97. Ammo cans Scoob
  16. Several months ago I noticed a log for a cache that I watch and it made mention of something of an adult nature in the container. They didn't say that they had removed it so I stopped by on my way home from work to see if anything needed to be removed. Sure enough, someone had left an adult vibrating toy in the cache. As an EMT, it's a good thing I always carry latex gloves with me. Yucko! Scoob
  17. KB or BK? Not that it makes much difference, I'm a DQ man myself. Scoob
  18. I have my PQ send me the nearest 500 caches (from my zip code)that I have not found, within 250 miles, everyday. Several times I see the PQ in my inbox and just delete it if I don't see a need for it. Otherwise, I'm always current on caches and their most recent logs. For me, it's the only way to go. Once you get the PQ thing down, get GSAK, a cache database manager and learn how to use it. Then download CacheMate, this program will be used on your PDA. As a premium member, you will be able to get .GPX files and that will give you all the information from each cache page (except the little map) on your PDA. You will be able to use GSAK to send all of your caches to you PDA and to your GPS. I can plan an all day cache trip in under five minutes. These are two programs you can't do without. Once you have the programs loaded, go here and learn how to use them. It's really pretty easy. Scoob
  19. I drove 3 hours to do a cache that required a 13 mile hike. Granted, I didn't know it was going to be 13 miles but I knew it was going to be significant. If your cache was close to me I would do it in a heartbeat. Scoob
  20. Caching has replaced work! I own two business and am therefore able to take off when I like. The problem is.... I like too much. Also, for the first time in more years that I can remember, I didn't even take my bow out of it's case for the last deer season. I use to live for those moments where I could sit in a tree and watch the sunset while deer passed, but now I find myself using that time for caching. Scoob
  21. I wrote about it on the "My Cache Pack" page of my website. It could use a little updating because I carry so much more now than I did then but it should give you a pretty good idea of what I'm taking along with me. Scoob
  22. Today I bought this to add to my caching adventures: 2005 Mongoose Wing Elite Scoob
  23. You can also sign up for the amazon.com credit card and get $30 off the Legend. $100 for a Legend ain't a bad deal. Scoob
  24. I've always found QuakeMaps to be the best. Goes everywhere in the world, you can drop in GPX files and see your caches along with the current info, you can save an image of a particular area with the caches for printing and it's very easy to use. It also works seemlessly with the gc.com site and GSAK. Another little perk is that it has a handy program for sending images and cache information to you PDA. Very cool indeed. Scoob
  25. I think the TB will fit in just fine at Woody Creek: Scoob
