Lovely scenery where I was parked up though, much better than looking out the window into the company car park! Had a brilliant time, a well thought out and run event. Met lots of like minded cachers all thoroughly enjoying themselves. Many thanks Nick. By the way: Mon 31 May - Cheshire, 7 caches, 2 DNFs, 1 cache revisit (TB hunt) & 10 trigs. No rest for the wicked!
  2. As a regular hunter of TBs I am not in the habit of logging anything other than my first visit to a cache in the cache log book. Any subsequent visits to retrieve a TB I consider as unnecessarily taking up space in the log book which the owner would have to replace sooner in due course. Also it has to be remembered that whilst a cache is being visited it is potentially being compromised so I go for the quick retrieval without spending extra time writing about it in the log. I've made up to half a dozen visits to the same cache in some cases! Should someone else be going for the TB at the same time well, that's rare but also unfortunate if they don't get there first! I do feel it necessary to record the visit on the cache page as this is where the day to day activity of the cache can be better listed. I have learnt from experience that it's not wise to sit on a cache printout showing a TB for a few days before going to retrieve. I recommend making a final check that it's still there immediately prior to going for it. As for how long are you permitted to hold on to the TB well, the simple answer is you're not! The whole idea is to keep the TB moving so it should be dropped at the earliest opportunity. If a TB I retrieve has no specific goal I'll drop it off at the next appropriate cache I visit. If it's goal fits in with something I will being doing in a few days or maybe weeks time then I will consider the benefits of holding on to it a bit longer. You'll soon know if you're hanging on to a TB too long when the owner begins prodding you! Hope this is of some help. Rgds Paul 123 TBs and counting! www.Pyoung1s.co.uk
  3. Well done to Pharisee who cached his 600th at GC35B6 Walker Dan's "All Hope Dies Here" last Thursday on his way up to Scotland.
  4. My Webpage (www.Pyoung1s.co.uk) Now that wouldn't have taken much figuring out! Pyoung1s@aol.com Let's keep it simple!
  5. Many thanks everyone! Special thanks to Highland Nick for the outstanding event that brought me up to Aviemore in the first place. Met some great people over to the two days (Friday/Saturday) particularly Ben Macdui who took me to new new heights and added a new dimension to speed caching! Three caches (1 regular, 1 virtual, 1 webcam) and a trigpoint, max height 1309 metres (4295 feet), distance 17 km (10.6 miles), climb 925 metres, time 4 hrs (incl break on summit of 15 mins), average speed 2.8 mph (no running)! Also acknowledgements to George Asda for my £15 trainers, well up to the task and now well and truely worn in! Cleaned up all the local caches on Friday as well as bagging a couple of FTF trigs at Tummel Bridge on the way up. Surprised no one had previously found them, not difficult even at half past midnight! Did the event caches on Saturday but saved one, Scottish Quiz Cache, to bring me back another day! Plenty of trigs up there still to be logged! Took a couple of power naps to get home Saturday night (A7 Edinburgh to Carlisle, the rally drivers night stage alternative to the M74!) but made it back to spend Sunday logging caches and Monday polishing off my blisters around Cheshire. Hope everyone else had as an enjoyable public holiday weekend!
  6. Avoid getting ticks whilst roaming around the countryside with the TICK MAGNET. Particularly useful when Geocaching in heather or other open scrubland especially where sheep graze. The TICK MAGNET is available to purchase but comes with a maintainance requirement. Better to borrow from a friend to avoid the personal nause of de-infesting after use. Guaranteed 99.9% effective! Get yours today, visit: www.obeqre_pbyyvr.com No animals or ticks were harmed or put in any danger during the making of this advert!
  7. Suzuki SV1000s 1500 miles to a rear tyre?!!! How about a Suzuki GSF1200S Bandit 8000 miles to a rear tyre (and anyone who knows me will tell you that I don't potter around on it!). 15000 miles in it's first year I changed the rear tyre when it punctured at 3000 miles then changed the pair at 11000 miles as I had srubbed the tread off the left side of the front tyre breaking into roundabouts (my party piece). As a qualified motorcycle instructor, a member of an advance motoring organisation (car member also) and a former advanced observer, without meaning to appear condesending please get in contact and hopefully I can give you some advice on riding technique that will save you a lot of money! Please check out a serious motorcyclists website at: www.Pyoung1s.co.uk
  8. Whatever you do check what you've set before going live. If your multi can be short-cut then it's rather pointless. Here's a few examples: 1. A regular was turned into a multi because the owner wanted cachers to park in a specific place and enjoy the walk/scenery on the way to it but was unhappy that cachers were parking closer to the cache therefore avoiding the walk. They placed a micro near to they're proposed parking point. It is possible to find the micro, plot the final cache position on a map then get back into the car and drive to it. 2. This multi required visiting two locations to get info to fill in the final co-ords. At the first point enough info was gained that left only the final digit of the co-ords. Given a range of 0 to 9 (opt for 5) and an additional hint about the cache being close to a fence it isn't rocket science to narrow down the search area for the cache without visiting the second location. 3. A four stage multi leading to the final cache. A spoiler photo gave away the position of the fourth item which contained all the information for the final cache. By going direct to the fourth location it is possible to bypass the first three stages. All the above caches are in worthwhile locations but the aim/theme of the cache is compromised for the above reasons. If you place an emphasis on fun (a good theme such as in GCJFCW "The Holy Grail") and something the whole family can get involved in I'm sure you'll find it will become a popular cache. Don't forget, you're also trying to attract these "numbers cachers" away from the quicker regular caches! Good luck!
  9. Well done! Good luck for your 1000th on your 100th birthday!
  10. Yes Chris n Maria, I had a similar side window modification done to my Volvo S40 in Dorset. Should be looking to change the car soon. It belongs to Lloyds TSB, is 2 years old in June and is well on it's way to 79,000 miles (unsurprisingly I'm expecting it to be recalled in the near future!) No not all the mileage is Geocaching! I do a fair amount of business mileage. The fact that I do Geocaching whilst away on business bears no reflection! It's the 1.9TDi averaging between 45-50mpg. The other cachemobile is the Kawasaki KLE500. Done a few caches green laning on it. Check out the picture on my website up at GCGZPA Victoria Cave on 13 Dec. My Suzuki 1200 Bandit counts as well as I gave it a run across to Liverpool on 7 Mar to do GC2E4D Alberts Famine. No problem parking!
