  1. The European Garmin buyers are subsidizing the US Garmin buyers. The prices of the Garmin eTrex H series are really absurd in the European countries. F.i. the lowest eTrex Legend Hcx street price in the Netherlands is 330 Euro. In the US ~150 Euro ($~202). I know, the American base map is, in contrast with Europe (European basemap), free of charge for the consumer, but nevertheless the price difference is much to large.
  2. Indead, you can download the driver from here or Prolific. Both links I found here :-)
  3. You need a serial to USB cable (special drivers included).
  4. That's Topo NL of Garmin... Not routable, very detailed and expensive too..
  5. Maybe the European eTrex H series are provided with contact wiring because they are much more expensive then the US models :-) F.i. the eTrex Legend Hcx costs in the US about 150 Euro and the cheapest in EU/NL 330 Euro. Serious; I think too that Garmin did not change it.
  6. Maybe is the trivial problem solved in the new eTrex H units?
  7. I have a Belkin, and have had no problems with it. A friend tried several different brands that didn't work and also is now using a Belkin. Click here
  8. Consider too that the Venture HC have a limited (internal) memory of 24 Mb, which is not extendable.
  9. You have an opinion that they're needed? I think that they're needed for unlock Garmin maps for the GPS. I am waiting for my ordered eTrex, so I can't try if I can send data from Mapsource (I loaded "temporary" two European countries) to the GPS device.
  10. For the Garmin European Topo's unlock codes are still needed IMHO. I have two Topo maps running in MapSource on my PC, but I am waiting for my Venture HC (I can't try if uploading without unlock the maps is possible).
  11. Here a recent Test - Review of the Garmin eTrex Vista HCx
  12. hello hedtjarn! try this one: HCX 299,- Euro http://www.navifuture.de/product_info.php?...-Vista-HCx.html 15 Euro shipping to Sweden http://www.navifuture.de/shop_content.php?coID=1 I bought my HCX there. A very nice guy and the shop is 100% OK. (i bought already several times there) It is not a US-price but the best you can get in EU. Indeed, Martin Baum is a nice, English writing, guy :-) In the Netherlands the price difference (august 2007) for the Vista Hcx is at least 71 Euro comparing with 299 Euro. For bundled offers however the price difference is small. F.i.: FuturumShop in NL offers the Vista Hcx + Topo NL + 1GB Micro SD for 460 Euro (inclusive shipping costs). Extrapolated, the virtual price of the Vista is 225 Euro :-) (370- Topo/130 - SD/15). This difference is in my opinion too small (299 + 130 +15) for ordering a "Navifuture" eTrex (H series) which are besides international versions (Importgerät) with a world base map. The language can only set in English, Frence, Spanish and Portuguese.
