  1. I use an IPOD Nano and the Cachemate program. Still download cache name and GC code on paper so I can take notes along the way. Keep the paper on a clipboard which helps me look "official" while searching for urban caches.
  2. Was your GPSr unit turned on while trying to load a cache? Yes. I had to reboot computer, then all was fine.
  3. I have CN 2008 on my computer and in my 60CSx. When I opened Mapsource a few weeks ago, a pop-up came up and said an update was available, send for the CD. I did. CN 2009 update CD arrived. Then the problems began. The maps downloaded quickly and without problems. I saw no mention of a charge for the update til I had put a few hours tring to get the unlock code, and finally called Garmin and jumped thru all the hoops to talk to a live person. Then I had to uninstall CN 2009 and reinstall CN 2008. I would not have started the process if the $75.00 charge for the unlock code would have been mentioned in the beginning!
  4. Problem solved. Reboooted computer.
  5. Trying to load a cache into my GPSr. "Send to GPS" not picking up my unit. Tried to downlod latest plugin and can't do that either. Anybody else having a problem?
  6. Here's one in arizona that's simple, but fun. GC1B5Y5. Uses a block & tackle system to suspend in a tree.
  7. While online using City Navigator 2008, a note appeared that offered an update. I followed the prompts and ordered the 2009 update CD. Upon receiving the CD, I attempted to install the update. After many attempts, I called Garmin and was informed you can't install the update unless you pay $75.00 for the Unlock Code. I did not see any mention of a charge for the unlock code when the update was offered, or when the CD arrived. I feel I wasted a lot of my time, and Garmin wasted the postage to send me the CD, cause I ain't paying $75.00 for an update. Has anybody else run into this problem, or am I just an idiot?
  8. I still can't get results on the "search" page. Rest of the site seems back to normal.
  9. The folks that don't bother to log their DNF's are probably the same people that claim a find even tho they forgot to bring a writing stick and did not sign the log. I believe following all the rules of the road adds to the challenge of the game. If I actively hunt for the cache and can't come up with it, I log a DNF. If I get interrupted by one thing or another, I'll post a note about what happened.
  10. I also started out with no GPS'r. Just makes it more challenging. Some Cache listings have more info and better hints than others. Go after them first. If you're like me, you'll have a ball and be hooked on Geocaching like the rest of us. It is a great family hobby!
  11. Hooray. Got my .GPX files. When I would receive the Email with my query, I did not notice the .ZIP file up near the top. (DUH!) I was opening the highlighted link provided. Now I will proceed onward to see if I can get the caches into my Ipod Nano. Wish me luck, and thanks for your replies!!
  12. OK. I'll slow down and take a breather. Perhaps I haven't given Geocaching.com enough time to run my Pocket Query. The one I ran yesterday I had sent to an "alternate Email address. Perhaps it doesn't use the .GPX format if you send it to an alternate Email? I just submitted a new Query. So I will wait until it shows up in my account Email. I read in the Forum's yesterday that some query's are taking a long time to process for some users. When I get it in my account Email, we'll hope it is in the .GPX and zipped. Thanks for your help!
  13. I had the pocket query emailed. Hit download. gave me an option to save or open (I think). I picked "save". The file in the download box is .LOC. Now what. By the way, I am a Premium Member.
  14. I had the pocket query emailed. Hit download. gave me an option to save or open (I think). I picked "save". The file in the download box is .LOC. Now what.
  15. Now I know my problem is downloading the pocket query in .GPX rather than .LOC. But, when I "download" the query it doesn't offer me the .GPX option. What am I missing?
  16. I am having the same problem figuring out how to download in .GPX format. Help us PLEASE!
  17. Using CacheMagnet and only get Waypoint name and coordinates to come up on my IPOD Nano. Am I missing something? Can someone give me step by step instructions to get complete listing on my Nano? Please try to make it as basic as possible. I've been working on this for probably 5 hours total over two days.
  18. First of all. Stick with it! I returned my first GPS because I couldn't figure the darn thing out! 6 months later I discovered this website and wading thru the forums has been a huge help! There are so many variables to figure out your problem. One thing I have noticed is the Gps'r only shows Geocaches within a certain distance of your "home". Were the caches you downloaded close by? If not, you need to go to the "map" page and scroll over to where the caches are. Also, I believe you need to download an additional program to get them into your Gps'r besides the Garmin download. Click on "Resources" on the left hand side of the Geocaching.com homepage, then "Geocaching software". I use "EasyGPS", but any of them are recommended. Good luck, and STICK WITH IT! Im brand new to this. I have a Garmin Vista HCX. I installed the program that should put caches right on your gps. I followed the instructions, and downloaded a bunch of caches. I cannot find them on my gps!! There is nothing under waypoints or caches... Please help!! The lack of good instructions with the Garmin are frustrating me!
  19. Great Cache near Camp verde, AZ. GC10RTF. It's huge! And a super idea to help place more caches.
  20. Awesome! Never Know what you're going to learn on Groundspeak!
  21. Lot's of joksters out there, but I've just begun this fun hobby, and I was wondering the same thing. The few folks I've run into on the trail so far, I have just flashed my GPSr. One acknowldgement, one strange look.
  22. This from another "tadpole", but I see nothing wrong with it. Just a little free advertising, for those searching for adventure anyway!
  23. OK. I'm more confused as ever. But, I turned on my unit, followed your steps by the letter, and "Found", "Note", and "Stop" are there on my compass page! I swear I have been using this unit for almost two months, and these options have not shown up on the compass page before. I don't remember seeing the "follow road", "off road" options. No one will ever accuse me of being a geek. In fact, these electronic gadgets drive me crazy! Bottom line, THANK YOU! Ridilen! I'll go take my Ritalin now. One more thought. I did replace the alkaline batteries I had been using with Lithium batteries just before following Ridilens instructions. Do you think alkaline batteries would prevent my CSX from operating properly?
  24. There are no options for found, notes or stop on my compass page.
  25. One of the reasons I purchased a 60CSX is it has a dedicated Geocaching mode. So far I'm not impressed. I download or manually enter the cache coordinates, find my way to the cache, and nothing special happens on my unit. The caches do show up on the calender page, but I have to manually change the icon from "find" to "found". I have been told that there is a "found" option at the bottom of the compass page. Not on my unit. I've tried "follow road" and "off road" and that doesn't seem to make a difference. I've read in a different forum that at least one other cacher also has no "found" option on his compass page. So far I see no difference in searching for a cache via Waypoint or Geocache mode. There has to be something I'm missing! I've read and reread my owners manual, and been to the Garmin website numerous times. Somebody please help this rookie!
