  1. And then, of course there's always one more cache "only .3 mile away". Yeah, we got time for one more. It's so close!
  2. Yippee! Do believe I FINALLY figured it out all by myself! Problem was with downloading Microsoft Net 2.0. had to jump thru some hoops and download Net 3.0, then it showed up as 4.0 in my programs. Had to jump thru more hoops, going to Control Panel to allow it to run. Thanks for those who tried to help!
  3. Compatibility mode where? I can't even download cachemagnet.
  4. Log as "found it", perhaps mentioning that "pictures will follow" or something to that effect. Then go to cache page and under your log will be an option to upload photos.
  5. Oh yeah! I call mine "NGS", Non-Geocaching Spouse.
  6. Got used to Cachemagnet for getting caches into GPS'r and Ipod Nano. Upgraded to Windows 7 and it appears Cachemagnet does not work on Windows 7? I have tried to find answer on Cachemagnet site, and Emailed for support, but not received a reply. Anyone have an answer for me? I am now using GSAK, but am a slow learner and find GSAK totally confusing.
  7. Well, thanks to Geocaching, it now takes me twice as long to get somewhere! Mainly talking on the way to camping in the great state of Arizona. Usually travel 3 -4 hours from home. Now it takes me 6 - 8 hours to get there, same thing on the way home. Not complaining! It is what it is! I'm hooked!
  8. You covered yourself well by taking pics. If you simply log it as a "find" and say "forgot pen, could not sign log" you risk having find deleted by CO. Good job, but get your Geocaching kit together as suggested!
  9. Don't rely on the "difficulty" rating too much. If you look in the right place, a 4 can turn in to a 1 for you. If you don't (as happens to me WAY to often) a 1 can easily turn into a DNF! For me, the "difficulty" rating is just another hint.
  10. If you would post the GC codes that would help us help you. Maybe.
  11. So, after weeding out the useless, juvenile, "waste of my time" posts, I have deduced that signing the log is a "rule" and requirement only if I, as the CO, wish to make it a requirement. And to do so, I will put the requirement in cache description. And personally, I will continue to hike a mile back to my cache-mobile to get a writing stick if I don't have one with me. For me, it's part of the "FUN!", to follow the rules and complete the challenge completely. Personal Responsibility.
  12. I have noticed the more I cache the state, the more I learn whose coordinates are "right on", and whose coordinates are off. L ove this topic, cause I have often wondered if some cachers intentionally post bogus coordinates!
  13. Obviously there are no rules in Geocaching if you can log a find without signing the log!
  14. Got a thorn in my side and need to vent. I'm sure this topic has been posted before, but I get no results in "search" because ya gotta use words with five letters or more. Anyway, seems to me one of the requirements of logging a find is YOU MUST SIGN THE LOG in order to claim it as a "find". I see too many logs that state "found cache, forgot pen, could not sign log." In my caching world, that is NOT a find, I did not complete requirements for a "find". If you can't retrieve the logbook because you need tweezers, is that a "find"? If you see the cache, but can't quite reach it, is that a "find"? If it's a submerged cache, but it's too cold and you don't want to get wet, but you see it down in the water, is that a "Find"? If you set out for a cache, but run out if gas before you get there, is that a "find" cause you meant to get it, and would have got it if you hadn't run out of gas? To me it is so simple. If I don't find the cache, AND SIGN THE LOG, I log a DNF or a NOTE. I have not deleted anybody's log that said they could not sign, YET, but it burns me up when I read their log! Anybody else feel the same way? Or, should I just get over it.
  15. I agree. On a side note, how can we support and encourage our boys over there? Encouraging notes/messages? Take up a collection and buy them the latest and best GPS'r? I'm sure Geocaching is a welcome diversion for the ones that partake in our fun hobby!
  16. Why dont you go and take a hike somewhere. [/quote I did. I will. But not "down south"!
  17. Ain't gonna happen. I won't even cache in downtown Phoenix!
  18. Just did a quick search and seems to me there are more caches in Afghanistan than there are in Mexico. I KNEW there's a reason I will never travel to Mexico again! Geocachers know where the danger areas are.
  19. Me. Since nearly all caches around here have a pen or pencil, I never think to bring one. Me. I think I have one on me and when I get to the cache it turns out I don't. It's not uncommon to see cache logs where the finder says "No pencil in the cache. Forget to bring a pencil, couldn't sign the log." Can't sign log, can't log "find". I play by the rules and don't log a find unless I sign the log. I mean, the goal is to find the cache AND sign the log.
  20. A bit upset when I couldn't "open new link", but after reading this forum and finding the work-around for that, I love the new map! Nice job Geocaching.com!
  21. Left mine behind twice. First time had to hike back to cache a mile away. Second time was back in the cachemobile, went to load next next stop and oh,oh, where's my GPS'r!! Could not turn around on the highway for 10 miles. Made it back to cache I had just found 30 minutes later, and there it was laying on the ground. Now I MAKE myself attach it to myself one way or another. It's a panicky feeling to lose it!
  22. I downloaded the caches using Cachemagnet (Love it!). Maybe it's a glitch in Cachmagnet?
  23. This week I did a Pocket Query and downloaded the caches into my GPSmap 60CSx. Some of the Geocaches were depicted with a Toll Booth icon instead of the treasure chest. Is this a problem with the download, or perhaps the settings in my GPS'r? I'll continue to check the settings on my GPSr, but was hoping someone else may have experienced and figured out this problem
