  1. It's across the border into B.C., but Leviathan Lurking is the most clever underwater cache I've ever seen.
  2. I shouldn't think so. A database query with conditions is faster than a query without because the resulting table is smaller.

    The WAP site

WAP is not HTML. It cannot display images, change button sizes, position the cursor, or resize a text box -- those are all controlled by your phone's browser. However: This can be fixed if the powers that be would change the page to include accesskey="1" in the <a> tag for item 1, etc. Sure would be nice.
  4. The only fix is that the month doesn't switch from a word to a number. Selecting a new type of log still causes a page refresh, and anything I type during that refresh is lost. It's the refresh itself that breaks up what used to be a smooth workflow.
  5. The Garmin Oregon has all this except that you need an extra-cost map instead of the base map for driving directions.
  6. I can't see this fix. I still get postback. Specifically, on the http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?ID=xxx page, if I select a new value for the drop-down box "Type of log", a new page loads. This is with Seamonkey 1.1 under Windows XP.
  7. That was Night Watcher. It's archived but not locked, so you can still log it. I think I found that cache, but I don't remember the name or date or owner. I'll take a look at my map tonight at home.
  8. I put the wrist strap way up the handlebar so that, if the clip does let go, my 60CSx won't hit the ground.
  9. Double protection doesn't work against water. What happens is the water gets inside the first container and is then held against the inner container for a long time. It seeps in. You're better off with a single watertight container like an ammo can.
  10. Here's an example of when it can be a real problem. I attended a large outdoor event this past weekend. Somebody I met really wanted me to log his personal TB right away, so I pulled out my just-barely-smart phone. Reception was poor and the link kept coming and going. The WAP site doesn't handle TBs so I slooowly logged in on the standard web site, slowly brought up the page for the TB, slowly brought up the log page, and thought I was just about done when I clicked "discover it" and the page refresh kicked off. This took two more minutes while I was standing awkwardly with something holding out their TB (because I had to enter the tracking number one more time.) When adding fancy Javascript machinations, please think about us mobile users with retro browsers and very limited bandwidth, and keep it simple. Thanks.
  11. I chain my bike to a tree for the peace of mind. The great thing about bike caching in a city or suburb is that it makes even garbage micros fun. No parking worries, you just ride up to the guardrail or lamppost, sign the log, and move on. The days when I had the most finds were geo-biking days.
  12. Yes. I grabbed one with the browser in my cell phone. I bookmarked the webcam page ahead of time.
  13. I concur. This just hit me -- I had selected the correct date and begun typing when the page refreshed and the date reset. I type quickly, and many of my keystrokes were lost. Please don't refresh a page while I'm filling out a form.
  14. If I try to look at caches hidden by one particular member with http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?u=Devil+Hunter, I get: This constraint cannot be enabled as not all values have corresponding parent values. It's the first time I've tried to look at this person's caches, so I don't know whether it began with the latest release.
  15. Back in the day, you could see the whole page for a non-PMO cache without being logged in at all. Audit logs could therefore be implemented only for PMO caches. Now that you have to log in to see the coordinates for any cache, it would make sense to extend audit logs to non-PMOs. But I don't imagine this will ever percolate to the top of any lacky's to-do list. All of my puzzle caches are PMOs so I can cackle over the audit logs. One guy looked at my hardest puzzle over 300 times before solving it.

Indeed -- somebody has ripped out half of your calendar. In mine, the day after Jan 19 2038 is Dec 13 1901.
  17. I frequent narrow gorges filled with tall trees and never lose lock with the built-in antenna, which I keep pointed at the sky. But my old 60CS (no 'x') would lose lock in those situations.
  18. It's a four-hour drive from Seattle to Trout Lake. You'll need a climbing permit -- information here. That site points out that, since this is a wilderness area, groups are limited to twelve people. I count sixteen "I might be interested" notes in this thread.
  19. My daughter and I bike-cached the 40-mile loop a couple of years ago. It's actually 67 miles around the loop, something we didn't realize until we were committed to finishing it. The trail is not at all complete. Large segments involve sharing streets with cars. For cachers on bikes, the best part of the loop is the Springwater Corridor. It's a straight shot (an old railroad right-of-way), you only encounter cars at intersections, and it's rich with caches. Very little of this loop is attractive as a hike. If you're in boots, consider Mt Talbert, a delightful undeveloped butte with an excellent trail system and several caches.
  20. Those of us with Oregon license plates thank you for that. (I just bought my annual Washington and Oregon Recreation Pass, so Washington State Parks do get some money from me.)
  21. I also have old eyes. I leave text zoom at 100% and enlarge the fonts using Edit / Preferences / Appearance / Fonts:
  22. What he said.I've been subscribed to that forum for years and I've never once gotten an email about it. Has anybody? (Yes, it's my current email address and I check the spam filter traps regularly.)
  23. I created three new PQs and directed them an alternate email address (my standard practice so they don't deliver to my phone.) All three were mailed both to the alternate address and to my account's main address.
