  1. Forum text now seems to be dark gray on a light gray background. I can't find a control panel to change this. Gen-Xers designers need to understand that we old fogies cannot read low-contrast text without eyestrain. Please pay some attention to web accessibility guidelines, especially those for older people.
  2. Thanks for fixing this on geocaching.com. It's still broken on Wherigo.com -- clicking the "sign in" link does nothing.
  3. It's probably too late, but nobody else has weighed in ... My favorites in this corridor are the "Paul Bunyan" cache series. Start with Paul Bunyan's Menacing Micro.
  4. java script:__doPostBack calls have stopped working in SeaMonkey (version 2.0.4 running under Windows XP SP3.) For example, on a user's profile page, clicking a tab does nothing. And I can only see the first page of any cache search result because clicking "Next->" has no effect. This was working fine last weekend.
  5. When that happens to me, I get a "my finds" pocket query, load it up in Mapsource, and look at the location. For some popular parks, I see three or four caches in about the same place.
  6. Plus REI gives you a dividend next year. Cabela's price for the 450t looks like it's actually their price to clear out back stock of the old 400t. It would be interesting to see if they stand behind it. The other big seller of consumer electronics is Amazon ... GPSMAP 62S: $394.99 Oregon 400t: no longer sold Oregon 450t: $429.00 Oregon 550t: $497.89

  8. Here's an explanation of why that's not possible. It only works in a USB host port -- the kind in your PC. It cannot be made to operate in a USB device port.
  9. Just so long as it's not the only hint. Most of us don't have new-gen Garmin GPSrs and can't receive the chirp signal.
  10. Kiwimonster just now nabbed this one.
  11. Don't crows fly south for the winter? Those of us down here around the 45th parallel are ready to welcome them.
  12. My all-time favorite caches are bookmarked here. Half of them are in the Portland area.
  13. For four days, my attempts to upload a photo yield only "The Image upload system is currently down for maintainence [sic]. Please try again later." I would like to log the virtuals and earth caches I found on vacation. When will this function resume working?
  14. That's Upload, Download? Geez, what a load! this Friday evening.

Salem-area geocachers hang out at http://www.oregonsaga.com/.
  16. You can find SE Portland geocachers at http://www.georegon.com. Friendly group, lots of events.
  17. That doesn't work for me. It's a pain, literally -- with my RSI I need to move the mouse as little as possible.
  18. Westside Portland cachers hang out in this forum. Though it's been quiet lately (darned Facebook.) Go to Noble Woods Park. It has nice trails through a forest with bridges over Beaverton Creek. There are three geocaches within an easy walk from parking on the south side and two more north of the creek. To get started, go to the page for GC19YXD and click on "Geocaching.com Google Map."
  19. Yeah, I've owned a lot of those inflatable watercraft over the last thirty years. Every one of them sprung a leak despite my best efforts to keep them intact. There's nothing like a popping sound followed by an impromptu swim to let you know you're done water-caching for the day. My current boat is an Emotion Glide kayak. It's stubby, just 9.5 feet long, so I can haul it inside my minivan -- no towing or roof rack required. It's basically made out of tupperware so maintenance is easier than it was with my inflatables. It won't cruise at high speed like a 16-foot boat would, but my friends who have 16-foot boats never manage to get them out of the garage and onto the water.
  20. The shortcut you have in mind would involve climbing a cliff. The reason for the long loop is to let you gain a lot of altitude gradually.
  21. After entering a log, the next page shows "Visit Another Listing" at the bottom with an input text box. Before the recent release, you could type a GCxxx number in that box, hit ENTER, and go to that cache. Now that's broken -- you have to grab the mouse and click on the "Go" button.
  22. The Dr Who cache is unavailable outside of business hours when the gate is locked. Business hours vary, but I wouldn't make the trip on a Sunday.
  23. Not many Oregon cachers read this forum. Try the Clackamas geocaching group at http://www.georegon.com
  24. Here's my list (if you disregard the cache at UBC.)
