  1. Probably not via the forum I'd email the reviewer who published it - one of the first logs on the cache listing will be from that person.
  2. Don't forget the eTrex is not a magnetic compass - it only works properly when moving (ie walking). Once you stop it might point anywhere as it was no idea where North is.
  3. A) Application of a sharp knife I'd just replace it all - tie a knot in one end, thread it through all the sections, then pull a fair length out to tension it - a good 1/2 pole length, maybe more - I generally work by feel. Tie a knot, trim off excess and let it spring back up the end of the last section. HTH
  4. 37.5km (23 miles) for the nearest 500 active caches, but north of me is mostly sea. Also some of those caches are in Essex - it may be just 20 miles across the water, but it's a 140+mile round trip via the Dartford Tunnel to log any of them!
  5. I've a basic yellow Garmin Etrex H and yes I use GSAK to download batches of caches to it.
  6. Yes, it can take a bit of fiddling to get right, but one of the best things about GSAK is the user forum - always helpful. I think you need to run the 'Add Logs' macro on your placed cache as not all the logs are showing up in the stats.
  7. I'm afraid I'm in Hertforshire that weekend.
  8. Even simpler than that, the source is automatically copied to the clipboard by the macro ready to paste in to your profile page FindStatGen is a fantastic macro which will spout all sorts of useless information ... you've only got to look at my profile to see that! It can take a bit of fiddling around to get set up though, particularly for the Placed Caches stats and for the Counties/Regions maps.
  9. Excellent Works a treat (at least for Kent & Essex!), thank you Slightly hijacking this thread, but a couple of very pedantic comments .... The Isle of Sheppy doesn't get filled for Kent (the island off the North Kent coast) and the sea has turned white between the Isle of Wight and the mainland!
  10. Don't you mean CISC a bit like RISC That's Complex or Reduced Instruction Set Computer if anyone really wanted to know
  11. they have! available from a GSAK store near you! Might be being blind , but I can't see a UK County map listed in this thread. Regions map yes, but not a County map.
  12. Willing to say more... Or are things "In progress" At the moment, GSAK has the ability to work out which county a cache is in (whether its entirely accurate I can't say, but its right for all the caches I've done). The maps the FindStatGen macro produces (and very good they are) are based on the state data. However, my understanding is that the current FindStatGen Beta may implement county-level mapping, using the new county field in GSAK. But don't take any of that as gospel, & don't go holding your breath! The latest beta does support county level mapping, along with a few other new features. But ... ... it will need someone to produce the mapping files for the UK I did look at doing it, but couldn't easily find a suitable map. Plus all the coordinates for the colour fills then need to be defined too.
  13. You are not the only one The geocaching 'states' or 'regions' for the UK have very little to do with any real life breakdown of the Country - they are just a way of splitting the Country down in to smaller areas. I guess that is why there are some very strange 'flags' floating around as there is nothing in most cases which identifies that area.
  14. As alredy suggested, have you tried a firmware update? My eTrex H is up-to-date at software version 3.1 - look under Setup menu, then System and that'll tell you what version you have. To update it you need to be able to connect the gpsr to your pc, then follow the details at this link. Make sure the batteries are good before you start!
  15. I have an eTrex H which I have used in the same way. From what I remember I didn't need any special settings on the device. Just install whatever drivers came with the USB to Serial adaptor (if any?), plug your Serial to eTrex cable in and it should work.
  16. Like the chronological order update, but .... My profile doesn't display properly anymore - looks fine in the preview on the new My Account page, but not from here. I'm using IE8 RC1 (maybe thats the problem )
  17. Not very much snow left in Kent now. Here's one I completed yesterday.
  18. I have a feeling this is the same one I was thinking of looking at this post I've a feeling I know which cache you are talking about too BTW, congratulations on your first FTF (First to Find) today, on my latest cache
  19. But bare in mind the tesco one is the Etrex, not the Ertex H which is a higher sensitivity model. The Extex H is on Amazon for £60. I use one and have no trouble at all with it - basic but functional. It can be slow to get a fix if you turn it on in woodland, but once it has a fix I've never lost it. I still use OS maps when I'm out caching and for planning trips - sometimes it good to check which side of a river you need to walk along to find the cache Us Kent Cachers must be online in force today - somone in another thread was from Canterbury - must be the pouring rain keeping us all inside
  20. I thought someone was working on that and even posted an example of what the prototype output looked like, but I can't find the post now (IIRC it was on the GSAK forums).
  21. Assuming you are using an Etrex H ... Use the page button to locate the Menu page. Scroll to Setup, press Enter. Scroll to System and press Enter. Press Enter, scroll to WAAS, press Enter. Press Page twice to return to the Menu page. Job done.
  22. I believe PAF = Phone A Friend and PDA = Personal Digital (Data?) Assistant ... but I'm sure someone will be along soon with a link to a website full of these sorts of definitions
  23. I had trouble a long while back - try clearing the IE cache, history & cookies to reset things.
  24. Same people? Last year To clarify, they did say on the News last night that the New Forest lapland is nothing to do with the one which was at Bedgbury last year (and is a Bewl Water this year).
