Hi I need some simple steps to add custom caching point to a Colorado 300. My company decide to have some fun and introduce many to geocaching. I like to use my Colorado 300 to add some point to use as manual geocaching. I tried to go to Geocacher, create waypoint. This seems to work, but I do not find it, so I can not go to it. What do I do wrong?

I wonder how long this will take from Norway... Mine is on recall list. Edit I do see that I am routed to local dealer in Norway, so then it should not take to long

All GPS do have an internal temperature sensor that is used for calibrating GPS. So variation in temperature should normally not influence on GPS accuracy. Extreme high or low temperature outside GPS specification can give wrong results. On many GPS you can see the internal temperature on the diagnostic page.

You can change max number of cache to 1000. It will then not be sent to you email, but you can download them from geocaching.com

You can get a Garmin Dakota 10 new for the same price as a new Vista HCX It will give you a much better GPS compare to the obsolete Vista You do get paperless caching.

You have to make several pocket queries. I do have 12 PQ to cover Norway (11000 cache) Since my GSP do not take more than 2000 GC, I do use Nüvi macro and store cace as POI (can have millions of GC)

If you store Geocache as POI on you GPS, you can have millions (only limited by card size) Using the Nüvi macro found on this site you can make a big list of POI with GSAK. It does not work as good as the GPX geocaching, since you can not mark found or leave comments, but you get Cache info, logs, hints etc.

Not true. Garmin has added new function on obsoleted GPS, but it's correct that Garmin do not normally do this.

60/76 do not show POI comments as the same way as you can do it on Colorado/Oregon/Nüvi etc. So I do not think there are any solution for paperless cache.

Colorado and all other new Garmin GPS do support SDHC cards. I do use an 8GB without any problem, so then 16GB and 32GB has to work. To use card larger than 32GB you need support for SDXC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital

If a unit do work with 4GB SD, then 8GB, 16GB and 32GB card will always work on all types of units. If the card is larger than 2GB, it must e a SDHC card. But if you need larger then 32GB cards, they must be SDXD that do support up to 2TB. To support SDXD, you need a different type of hardware. Garmin Mobile XT. It change you phone to a Nüvi. It do work nice with the Nüvi macro found on this site. And you can enter Lat and Long

If you use one of the Nüvi macro floting around here on the forum, you can convert cache to POI and store millions of cache on you Oregon. Boot time is not reduced. The only thing you can not do is to mark cache as found. You do get all cache info, hints and logs.

You can add Garmin Mobile XT to the Nikia 5800 It then function like a Nüvi and you can use the Nüvi macro found in this forum to add cache to the phone. You can use it for cacheing but its much better to have a dedicated unit like Oregon

@g-o-cashers How can you say that this update is for x50 Oregon? Can you confirm that 450 and 550 uses same firmware? There are no new firmware listed at Garmin for the 450, so for me this looks like firmware update for the 550 and not 450.

Has the GPS ever worked? Have you sent maps to the GPS?

Delete all maps in \Garmin folder (img files) in unit. Remove SD card and turn on unit.

It seems that 450 do hold the same amout cache as 550, but I have not get this confirmed.

Why not then go for a Oregon 450. 450 = 550 minus Camera
