  1. Putting that special cream on my centroid before local events didn't help matters, it was just embarrassing.
  2. I switched from PayPal to CHC ("cold hard cache") yesterday. My first subsequent cache took only 10 hours to be published. You may consider this a recommendation. Carry on.
  3. I found 72 in less than 12 hours once, all on foot. Walked 19.43 miles pretty much non-stop. Just north of Heathrow airport there is the "WTF" (No, actually "Water to Follow") series put out by rodz. It was great fun. Having something like that around would really help a big numbers run.
  4. No, I didn't see those posts from Raine.
  5. No luck here either. there has been no response at all from PTB?! That's pretty lame.
  6. We have a couple active and very useful TB Hotels near where I cache. People often stop by, drop a few, take a few. These caches seem to really help travelers move. There are no "1 for 1" rules on them, by the way. If you want to go get your TB, you should do it. It's not stealing.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I didn't necessarily mean if a MUGGLE stumbled across the final cache, though ... I was thinking more of a cacher out hiking, looking for a spot to place a hide of their own, or whatever. Basically, I guess I'm stuck: add ALR and then delete any finds that don't meet the ALR, or live with any "happenstance" finds. Gonna choose the latter I think. The number of happenstance finds will most likely be zero or at least a very, very small number. I guess I was more worried about the original topic of this thread: happenstance find occurs and then coords propagate. Probably that won't happen.
  8. Seems like decent thread on which to pose this question: I have a 5/5 puzzle cache. In order to solve the final puzzle, you have to have found a number of other caches to get clues needed to solve the final/final. No finders yet after almost three months. Eventually, however, it seems to me that someone might stumble across stage one of the final. Assuming they can (and also choose to) complete that multi, they will then access the final. I hate the thought of allowing a find this way ... but the thought of adding ALR or deleting finds are not appealing to me either. Thoughts?
  9. Would be cool to see a daily update of the centroid for all finds made that day. And all hides!
  10. I think it sounds quite cool! ... and would definitely try out a cache like this if there were one in my area. C'mon, G-Speak, let him do it.
  11. Well, could I be more blind?! I didn't see the "view profile" link.
  12. The Find Another Player thing was the first place I looked. But that goes straight to sending an email to the user (with not a profile link in sight). But the Quick Links thing solves it. Thanks! StumpWater
  13. Apologies if this has been covered, but how do I find other users/profiles now? ... there used to be a search feature on the front page. Maybe there still is, but I can't seem to find it. Hep me, hep me, hep me. Thanks, StumpWater
  14. Wow, nice compass and great story! I'd be nervous about the radiation, though.
  15. I signed one log 17 minutes after the cache was listed. The cache was really, really close to my house and I happened to be on-line downloading caches when it was posted. I doubt I'll beat that.
  16. Events would be the big connector, that's true. But it's "connectedness" that I think is interesting (not necessarily having physically met). Finding the same cache ever would connect two cachers, though they may never have met. So, having attended the same event and not having met would still satisfy the connectedness idea. Anyway, just a fun idea to kick around. I doubt it'll be taken up. Thanks for all of your comments. Wish I was a database guru / programmer ........
  17. Yes, I guess so. I'd love to just be able to key in any two identifiers and view the connection with the minimum number of steps. Would be neat to see who (or which caches or bugs) are the biggest "connection generators". See? This thing could even spawn its own vocabulary ... in no time. Might be resource intensive, that's certainly true.
  18. Thanks for the info. Where can I read about this project?
  19. I would love to be able to calculate the degrees of separation between any named/identifiable geocaching objects: cachers, caches, travel bugs, and geocoins. Also would like to be able to identify the path through which objects are connected. For example, I have a friend in California who caches. We have never cached together, so have no direct connection (found the same cache, attended the same event, etc.). I have a TB that is in California, though, and I suspect that one of the finders of the cache that my TB is in has likely found a cache that my friend has found. So I suspect that I have about 3 degrees of separation from him. Maybe 4. Anyone else think this would be fun to know? I do. I would love to be able to punch in, for example, GCM5E7 and GCWW31 and see what connects them and how many steps it takes to connect them. Maybe this idea has been proposed before ... "nothing new under the sun" and all that. We can't do this already ... can we? StumpWater
  20. Thanks, crazyon2wheels, sounds like a decent endorsement. StumpWater
  21. Might be getting one for mobile email. Pros, cons, etc.? Thanks very much, StumpWater
  22. Plant a TB in one of the caches, a TB that's had some decent travels. Show them the Google Earth path for it. Or a geocoin. Modern day treasure hunter and all that. StumpWater
  23. Where's that "i blow things up" dude? Shouldn't he have posted on here by now?
  24. Just back from a trip starting in NC, through Japan, down to Indonesia and back. Had bugs and coins in my carry-on going both directions. No problems. I have had suitcases lost before, so I would never put such items in my checked bag.
