  1. Nope that's about it, unfortunately you can't project directly from a geocache. Same on the Oregon.
  2. maybe they did consult GS and it was turned down, but they still rolled out the product and instead changed the geocache icon away from the GS icon? I think that this is the real interesting part of this debate. My sense is there's much more going on here than just chirp approval. More like a growing rift between Garmin and Groundspeak. The question is how bad and what will that mean to geocachers?
  3. Unless someone figures out how to hack them they aren't of much value to anyone else other than the person who owns the GPS that programmed the chirp. After you program the chirp it becomes locked to that GPS.
  4. Is that 374? You need 4.10 for the x00 Oregon and 4.00 for the x50 Oregon to pick up chirp support. Run webupdater to install it.
  5. I've just posted a review here: http://www.gpsfix.net/garmin-chirp-review/ So far it's been working very well and the range has been reasonable. Will have a cache up tomorrow if the reviewer stars align. Also available at REI online for $19.95 GO$Rs
  6. Even more strange that they haven't released any GPS software that works with the chirp. I'm guessing we'll seem something tomorrow from Garmin and REI just got ahead of themselves a little.
  7. Is your compass calibrated properly? When you are in Sight-n-go the unit is forced into Auto mode and since you aren't moving you'll be using the electronic compass to come up with a bearing. If the ecompass isn't calibrated the GPS will use a bad bearing when it internally projects a waypoint.
  8. I see Automotive profile..when I click it, it says Edit Name, Move up, Move down, Delete............??? You are in Setup>Profiles. You should go to Main Menu>Profiles and select Automotive.
  9. If you switch to Automotive profile the default settings will give you an audible turn alert and map page setup that give you what you are looking for.
  10. To remove found caches the easiest thing to do is reload a gpx file that does not contain your found caches or remove the gpx file that contains the found cache. There is not a way to remove caches from the unit itself, any cache contained in a gpx file in \Garmin\GPX will show up on the unit.
  11. Does your 450 have an additional routable map loaded? I sometimes get conflicts between the 24k topo maps and city nav depending on my profile and which maps are selected.
  12. If you are navigating to a Geocache (vs. a waypoint) and you have the 2.5 or later software there is an easy way to do this. From the map page you can hit <MENU> - View Geocache - Enter Next Stage and input coordinates to the next stage.
  13. I just tried to update my 450 that I got during the REI fire sale. I used the Webupdater, but it came back with the error message the download was corrupted. Any ideas on this? thanks You need to be in USB mass storage mode. You'll get this if you are in spanner mode and the unit is running in "GPS mode" when you try to update it.
  14. Not directly, but there are probably ways to convert them and load them as gpx files. The information would obviously be limited to way is in the loc file (name, location).
  15. Is the map enabled on the unit or does it just not show up in the list of available maps? If the latter, check the SD card in explorer to see if there is a file on the SD card called [sD drive letter]:\Garmin\gmapsupp.img . If not, the file did not get downloaded.
  16. If you are following an off route route (a route that connects waypoints) you can modify the behavior here: Setup>Route>Off Road Transitions: Manual, you can force the manual transitions or Distance, change the distance sensitivity
  17. Run webupdater to upgrade. Details: Oregon x50 http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4523 Changes made from version 3.80 to 3.90: * Fixed issue while using spell search in route planner. * Fixed issue on 3D View where vehicle could move after using the map. * Fixed issue where tracks could not be disabled from the map. * Fixed issues with odometer distance. * Fixed shutdown while panning the map for extended periods of time. 18. The best way to achieve this is to use the GSAK Garmin Export macro. http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=...ost&p=97225
  19. At one point there was, but if you get a 550 from a big retailer like REI or Amazon which has enough turn over you should get one with the brighter screen.
  20. If you are driving in a car or biking (anything that gets you above 3mph) you'll see pretty consistent results especially if you aren't stopping.
  21. If you've loaded each as an individual gpx file, you'll be limited to 200 geocaches. http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Geocaching#toc5
  22. http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Geocaching#toc11
  23. Both will work fine for what you want. The 62 has slightly better accuracy (probably because of the antenna design) and outdoor screen visibility. The Oregon makes a much better car nav because of the larger higher resolution touchscreen. The touchscreen is also a time saver if you want to do a lot of text entry (naming waypoints, descriptions, etc). If you do go with the Oregon get a screen protector because it will scratch with dirty fingers. The 62 has a few features which haven't made it over to the Oregon such as proximity alarms, a more full featured calendar and night/day mode if those are important to you.
  24. All of the Dakota manuals are here: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/manual.js...5&pID=30926 Garmin also has a growing set of training guides here: http://www8.garmin.com/learningcenter/training/index.html Note that the Dakota and Oregon interface is nearly identical so videos on the Oregon will apply as well -- same applies to the wiki - you'll find much more information on the Oregon wiki: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com
  25. Nope, you've found the best way to get this information. +1 for the suggestion for Garmin to make all data fields available on all pages, not sure why the elevation specific fields are not available on other pages.
