  1. I have found some like that. They have been lower difficulty and higher terrain. Retrieval is easy once one is either within arm's reach of the cache or uses special equipment to obtain the cache. Based on what I have seen, if one has to climb to get within reach, then it is not terrain 1. If special equipment is required, then those are usually rated closer to terrain 5.
  2. http://coord.info/GLA7QC4E which says, "This cache is definitively deleted. Some hackers as Deskdata dont respect the owner of premium caches and impose to Geocaching to accept their log. I dont accept this method because that is no respect of the oner will. Useless to be premium member, dont paid for that, you can find and log every cache because Grpundspeak accept it. So, I prefer delete all my caches than autorise cheaters to play. Thank you very much Deskdata and Groundspeak." I posted that note as a quote, but didn't know people would be able to find it. I figured the Googlebot didn't have a premium membership. This cache owner does not appear to even know the logs have been deleted by Groundspeak, and the caches are still disabled, him having thought he "deleted" them, in his words, by disabling them in early February. It just seems awful strange, if you don't mind me saying, that this particular incident with this particular cache owner, after 11 years of PMO caches, is the one that made Groundspeak re-examine it's wording. I guess what I'm saying is "why now"? Sorry about that. Being a curious old soul and wanting to see if there was more to the story after reading the first few posts, I found that log by the cache owner on at least two of his caches, one of which is not PMO and has been archived, fairly quickly using some tools available to me on this site. Didn't even think about using Google. Will have to try that sometime.

  4. It appears it became generally accepted in mid-2007 that terrain 1 means a cache is wheelchair accessible. Before that, it seems to mean the cache was less than 500 feet from parking. This is just speculation on my part since I didn't start caching until August 2007 but this is the best I have been able to determine from various observations. It also seems that caches rated terrain 1 before the change were grandfathered because not all older caches which are rated as such are wheelchair accessible. When I submitted a terrain 1 cache in early 2008, the reviewer sent a similar note to me asking if my cache was wheelchair accessible and to add the wheelchair attribute to the cache page if it was. If it was not, to change the rating to 1.5. It was published shortly after I received the note. I wonder if this is why the terrain rating default on the cache submittal page is 1.5 now. Obviously, attributes have not been a requirement since many cache pages do not have any. I don't know if it is a requirement now because I add them to my cache pages anyway.
  5. Just FYI, one is asked to enter a reason when deleting a picture from a log.
  6. Interesting. I don't have IE10, (not available with XP), so I can't advise on exactly what to do, but the edit page uses a built in plugin/addon called CKEditor to write the html code in the background. The web site should load it for you, (you don't need to install it). Look around in the options for IE to see if there is a setting in there that could possibly be blocking it. I didn't have any problem on March 11 so something changed between then and March 16. Appreciate the information. I don't know much about the workings of computers so that will give a starting point. Will try to figure out what happened sooner or later. At least I figured out I could change the description of my trackable using other browsers.
  7. In addition to the other comments, maybe few cachers really want to put any caches in downtown Charlotte for whatever reason including the inability to adequately maintain a hide there. If one cacher "dominating" an area is not your cup of tea, then you should avoid several state parks if you are ever in Alabama (though you will be missing quite a treat if you pass them up).
  8. The same happened to me earlier. I cannot edit the mission nor description using Internet Explorer 10. Both areas are grayed out. I can edit using Google Chrome on the same machine which has IE10. I can also change those areas on my netbook which has IE 8.
  9. I've seen a few hints which contain parking instructions. Doesn't help much when it is not read until one is already at the cache site.
  10. I bet there is a lawyer or two somewhere who would try to make a case of the grey icons violating the Americans with Disablilites Act and/or the Age Discrimination Act. Aside from the easy argument that none of us has to use the services of Geocaching.com if we don't want to... True enough but it was a tongue in cheek comment to start with, hence the "shocked" and "laughing out loud" emoticons.

  12. I recommend Gwennie's Restaurant on Spenard Road, not too far from the Anchorage Airport. A very good place for breakfast. I've been told everything else there is good too. I just haven't been close to Gwennie's at other meal times whenever I was in Anchorage.
  13. Some other similar type logs I've seen are "cached", "o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O" (of various lengths) and the date such as "12/25/12". To each his own I suppose.
  14. Dude! That is like the second time you have made me spew coffee all over the keyboard! Groundspeak really missed the boat by not entertaining a design contest. But, of course they know what we like better than we do. +1 I am sure glad I was not drinking anything while looking at these.
  15. Not always. Everyone does not have the ability to get notifications while on the road or sets them up if one has the capability. Also, I have found some caches which were active when I loaded my GPSr the night before I went out and found them the next day only to discover they had been disabled or archived by the time I got back home.
  16. I'm confused. There are NO pictures on that cache page or in any logs. Hence, no gallery. And I don't think there ever was a link to the gallery in the Navigation box at the upper-right. I have old screen-grabs and non of them have it. Rather, there was a link just above the first log on the page to "View the Image Gallery" - that link is still there. I got the impression Don J was referring to the amount of scrolling one has to do on the linked cache page to get to the location of a gallery link if there was one and not to an actual gallery.
  17. Soon... I will update the info. Looking forward to checking these out.
  18. I've only done a dozen or so Wherigo caches but each one had a container and a log to sign at the final location.
  19. Discoveries do not show an associated location. Is that what you are asking about?
  20. I don't know if you've contacted the owner to Key to Freedom I, but the reason I suggested it, earlier, was because I suspected that the three owners were all members of the same family. The second two look like they might be children, based on their names. The first one seemed like a better bet, even though he is not officially the owner. He might be more responsive. Agree. The "owners" of Key to Freedon II and Key to Freedom III are children and probably won't answer e-mails. Can tell that from their geocaching names and logs saying they were caching with their dad who is the owner of Key to Freedom I.
  21. I am aware of several ways to log massive trackable discoveries at once which apparently does not trigger the notification process. I've seen them used when folks see many trackables at an event or a person's entire collection. Some cachers I know have used these methods to discover my collection. I did not get any e-mail notifications of those discoveries. The virtual logger may be using one of these methods or may have written his own code to log all the trackable discoveries he has made lately.
  22. I had a problem. Some of mine were "not in the database" and could not be activated even with the universal code. The matter was straightened out very quickly after I brought it to Michael's attention.
  23. I thought the minimum order was 75? I was also told the minimum order was 75. If I didn't want 75, I could take as few as 50 and Oakcoins would take the balance to make up the difference but they would take no more than 25 coins.
