  1. etrex H is already on firmware 2.50. Nevertheless as mentioned over in the other thread I don't believe there even is a hardware revision. That poor customer service guy got somethin mixed up in my eyes. The 2.40 Chipset software will IMHO be released at the latest in 2-3 weeks, but won't solve the trip odometer bug as mentioned above. Other units with Mediatek suffer from the same problem, but that nevertheless doesn't prove it can't be handled by new firmware, however it's not Garmin but Mediatek who's responsible for the bug (as they must have shipped out software samples to Garmin and other companies using the chipset).
  2. I don't think there is a new chipset. I had a one of the first Vista HCx in July (2.20 Firmware and 2.10 Chipset Software I believe). Mediatek was shown on startup with the old firmwares. Once upgraded to 2.40 I see no more mention of Mediatek. Anyone with an "old" gps unit that is able to have Firmware 2.40 still showing Mediatek on startup? Mine doesn't (anymore). -- End of July several Units shipped with 2.30 Firmware - while it wasn't yet available with the webupdater. Common thing I believe. It's like units shipping with newer maps while it still takes 2-3 month till they can be bought in shops witout gps.
  3. Allright, as it seems that the got it right now, can someone please PM me the e-mail address of their contact and name at Shieldzone so that I can ask for my new one too?
  4. Thanks for the measurements. Confirms what I experienced. Only bout 10 hours with 100% backlight. Though I get near to 20 hours with 50% backlight. 2100Mah Conrad Endurance (Eneloop clone), cycling or walking through the city. Basemap, City Navigator (well modded Metroguide), and Topo transparent active. So allways go easy on the backlight.
  5. Not to forget Venezuelas crazy announcements about changing in its completely own timezone (30min steps compared to the rest) - not knowing wheter this will come true next year......
  6. Neither is GPS SW version 2.20 right? Most actual up to now was 2.30/2.10
  7. 2.40 was AFAIK never ever offered on the website. The problems you describe are all present in 2.30 too. 2.20 didn't have the recalibration message, but rest of the faults (0.0 km/h) too as well as backlight. Better stay with 2.40 IMO until it has rolled out officialy as you won't get it back and 2.20 is not downloadable (that was the initial version). Hardware is 2.10 --> what is yours?
  8. There has been a report that the Ultra II cards work since some month (after a Firmware Update) and there is one person claiming to work with an Ultra II 2GB card in his 60CSx so I assume if you have a dealer that easily returns broken goods you could give it a try. However Ultra II cards are not the fastest. There are 512MB (maybe bigger) Extremememory cards that are about 33% faster than Ultra II in real performance! No incompatibilities about that card have been announced by Garmin
  9. Thanks for your efforts, I'll be contacting them too once proper fit is confirmed here. (Made the same error of ordering an Cx shield for HCx)
  10. Today I just walked a 16km track on Schneeberg / Austria, Overall time 6.7 hours, with 1.20 hours of pause during which I mostly switched of the unit. Under clear sky, while walking down a large and wide, 30-45° steep chute (Schneidergraben), my Vista HCX lost the signal very badly. Then again in the forest below. At least 5% of the tracklog are empty or useless (in distance of total travel). Tweaking the GPS track till it's usable for trackback took about 30 minutes (using a topo map (Amap) and GPS Track Analysis.net) deleting more than 300 out of 2000 points. BTW is there any tool to automatically delete all gps points inbetween the speed is higher than a certain speed? Before tweaking instead of 1320 meters altitude made good it showed around 2400 m. Quite a big difference and useless for amalysing your fitness level etc.... P.S track was Losenheim-Fadensteig-Fischerhütte-Klosterwappen-Damböckhaus-Schneidergraben-Nördlicher Grafensteig, Losenheim. Is there a simple solution for linking GPX files and putting them on here - uploading with description to gps-tour.info simply seems too long.
  11. eneloops from Sanyo (they were the first to be available of the new kind of NimH batteries) hold 85% for 12 month. long time tests seem to confirm this.
  12. Has everyone here the same opinion, or is it (for me a Vista HCX) still usable without backlight. How much does the backlight consume? I think this would stop me from using a screen protector.
