  1. Hey Outtahand, check out Michaels Arts and Crafts, sounds like the store where your clip-watches came from. Good Luck. Oh and I love to find cool signature items too. Think my favorite so far is a homemade beaded bookmark. Pretty cool.
  2. Hey CCGamer, you still have a chance!! There are still two caches waiting for FTF's in South Austin. Check out: Spring Loaded (although it might be a little chilly this weekend) and The Siege of Vicksburg. I'm not particularly interested in getting FTF, although I would probably try on 'The Siege' if I were going to be in town this weekend. Puzzle caches seem to last the longest without FTF's in this area so you still have a pretty good chance! Thankfully my little one is only four so is only concerned with if we find the 'treasure', if there are any cool bugs/flowers on the way, and if there is a playground near by, not with what's in the log. And me, I'm just happy to be away from work, laundry, housework, etc and to actually be outside enjoying the fresh air to worry if I'm first.
  3. Whoa ShadowAce!! Glad to see you made it out 'okay'!! I would love to do some of the more difficult terrain caches around here but that story is why I won't attempt them alone. Whew! Now if I can find a babysitter and convince my husband to hike up the side of a mountain (okay, we have HILLS around here, but still!) then I might have a chance!
  4. I think that y'all were totally RIGHT not to touch those needles and to get flamed for not doing so is incredulous! I cache with my four-year old daughter the majority of the time and definitely would have appreciated the log note (and picture) y'all left. The only thing I most likely would have done differently is I would have informed the Parks Dept and/or the Police. Yes, they may not have done anything but at the same time, they might have (or gotten someone out there that COULD handle it). As for compromising the nearby cache... I would rather compromise the cache than compromise someones health. It's just a game after all.
  5. Thanks for the input Teach2Learn!! I'll have to check out a couple of those options and see what would be most cost effective. A new toy might be fun tho.
  6. For those that laminate their signature cards... what kind of card laminator do you use? How expensive? Or do the little laminate 'pouches' work? (although I can see where that would quickly become a pain if you wanted to do more than just a couple at a time). Thanx!
  7. I've noticed that phenomenon in the past but right now only 2 in my first 20 are disabled (one has been that way since March 20th). **edited b/c I can't count!
  8. Isn't it amazing?? I've had a couple of great emails from friendly cachers as well... One recently just suprised the heck out of me, someone I have never met found something in a cache that reminded her of my avatar and actually picked it up to send it to me. WOW! I was so amazed by this friendly and generous offer. Oh and obviously, this is someone that is on the forums so it's not all about the hatin'. For the most part I think that cachers really are a great group of people.
  9. Awesome news, Congratulations!! (and to you too SLCDave) Can't wait to see the new avatar you create for the little bundle of joy!
  10. Thank you very much! I'm an adult that has lived with ADD all her life (since before it was the "in" thing to diagnose) and I'm not quite sure if I should be the one insulted by many of the AS regulars being insulted by being compared to someone with ADD or not... (whew, what a sentence!) Like Norbu said, it's a "Filter" thing where our brains just function differently. For me it's like tuning a radio. Need to concentrate harder to get rid of all the static but once the station is locked I can keep my focus just as long (if not longer) than many "normal" functioning brains. I lurk in AS occasionally when the board is particularly slow and get a good chuckle occasionally but don't stay long because it is actually too much "static" for this poor brain of mine to handle. I have NO problem what-so-ever that others enjoy it though. I also wouldn't mind and OT forum but if not, no biggie. As far as the moderation on the forum goes... I am occasionally suprised that some topics get shut-down while others are allowed to continue (not talking about AS, since it is an 'exception to the rule'), but the moderators are only human (I think!) and as humans they have to use their best judgement. They will never please 100% of the people 100% of the time. Such is life. Let's all just kiss and make-up, agree to disagree, and all those other cliches...
  11. Yikes!! Thank God you are okay! Your Jeep could be a real wake up call for someone thinking about getting behind the wheel after drinking. Too bad it's after Prom season or I bet MADD would've had good use for it! Here's hoping you heal quickly and are feeling better soon.
  12. What a great story! I really believe that it not only says something about the great cachers in your area but it must also say something about the man that was honored. A day late, but Happy Birthday anyway!!
  13. They don't bother me as long as their done in a respectful way. In fact, there is a little cemetery (well actually it's hardly more than one gravestown surrounded by a short stone wall) that I was thinking of placing a cache close to.
  14. Hey, I like those too!! I also love that caching gives me a reason to get out from in front of the computer during my lunchtime. Fresh air, natural light, and a cache... what more could a girl want? Oh unless it's raining, then I like to check out the drama on the forums. Also, now that my little one is getting into it more I love that it gives us quality time together in the great outdoors, away from the TV, housework, etc... ** edit because I'm a goob!! I just can't seem to get that darn quote right! how the heck do you show WHO you are quoting?
  15. LOL! That's him alright but I think my hair looks a little more like WitchiePoo!! (Shoot, especially with the humidity that's been in the air the last week)
  16. What about a piece of styrofoam or cardboard taped around the hook? Or if y'all have a Container Store nearby sometimes you can find cool little containers for under a buck that might work, depending upon how big the lure is. If it's just a little jig, I just picked up a couple little plastic containers there for about .59 that would probably work. think they were in the 'travel' section. Or, you could bubble wrap the whole thing and put a picture on it so everyone would know what was inside... (I'd love to see it if you do have a pic, btw! ) Good Luck!!
  17. shhhhh!! you weren't supposed to tell anybody. Guess I have to work on that!
  18. Hi Bare_cachers, WELCOME!! I'm sure you'll get the standard "it's not about the swag" response but I for one like to see the signature items left behind as well. I started a little collection a while ago and leave it in my cube at work so I can see them while I'm stuck inside. (altho, not always a good thing... often makes it harder for me to stay!) When caching with me daughter she can turn almost anything into a 'treasure'. And boy, coming from someone who has actually spent $$ on those rocks u are leaving I'd be happy if we found one and I KNOW she'd be tickled pink! I think when it comes down to it, just leave something you wouldn't mind keeping or you wouldn't mind your kids (neices/nephews, friends, whatever) keeping. Happy caching!
  19. Great feedback so far and have given me some ideas (altho for now I can't really control my stats, gotta just keep plugging along, time permitting. ) Another reason I'm curious but probably didn't explain it well in the topic opener is, WHY when reading someones posts do we often jump to a persons profile.. what are we expecting to see? I a recent thread someone made a comment about an irrational cache owner and many jumped to look up the profile of the cache hider... Were we expecting to see three eyes?? What did we want to see? What would have given us insight into the way he was being? In that case there was something to talk about. Would it have been more dissapointing if there had been nothing on his profile page, or would his stats have been sufficient to 'flame' him? BTW - there are a lot of cool profiles out there! Thanx to those that actually share a bit of themselves!!
  20. shoot, and I try to avoid that thread! That is except when I'm having a particularly rough day at work. today doesn't quite add up to that but now.. Argh, I'm too curious, gonna do it@!! At least it seems to be a semi-slow day and shouldn't have to wade through 6 pages.
  21. Wow, alot of interest in pictures!! I guess I need to start downloading more of those. I take my camera along alot but either get to excited and forget to take any pictures or just never download them to GC. And and as for a pic of me.. not sure I'll include one of those. Someone just recently made a comment about not being scared of the rain unless you're the Wicked Witch.. well, any one remember HR Pufnstuf? LOL! My hair could compete with that anyday! BasoonPilot, I see your point on that... but I guess we all had to start somewhere. And I have no problem with constructive criticism. (good thing too, cause I seem to get an awful lot of it. Hmm, must be something about me... )
  22. Interesting... Okay I swear I'm not being a smarta** but what kind of 'insight' do the stats/types give you about the person? Do they gain more of your respect for harder caches? So I guess from my profile you would then deduce that I prefer to do the "easier" caches? Not necessarily true but right now I mostly take my four-year old with me or I go for lunchtime caches when I can't go back to work sweaty... Do I get less respect? (If I told you that I had 200+ finds on another account most with 2+ terrain, would that be better?) Sorry, if it sounds like I'm attacking the answers y'all gave me.. I swear I'm not! I actually do the same thing and I was just trying to figure out the pysche behind it. (Plus, this is not a thing against stats, I'm not a numbers gal but I actually do like seeing them.) Another reason I want to know is that I was looking at my boring old profile and thought I should add 'something' to it but sure as heck didn't wanna waste my time on something that people wouldn't bother to read. And I'm really not that interesting anyway.
  23. We've all done it, gone to look at someones Personal Profile. Just recently I've seen it brought up in many threads but I'm curious... What exactly are you looking for? What kinds of things do you like to see in a persons profile? Do you like to see there 'Top Ten' favorite caches? Their life history? Insight into their personality? Pictures? Stats? Location? So, what is it?
