  1. I have best buy, circuit city, but not much else in terms of electronic stores.
  2. Anyone? :-) [This message was edited by SunCat on May 12, 2003 at 07:00 PM.]
  3. Do you have an other software to go with the Garmin?
  4. Well, the 128MB was about $45 after rebate while the 256MB was about $48 after rebate. I probably don't need that much, but for only $3 more it is worth it. Also, I have a PDA that takes SD cards so I can share.
  5. Hi, I've been reading posts from people finding caches and noticed a lot mention too many people being around or someone seeing them place the cache (in a worried way). What is the policy of caching when non-geocachers can see you find and then replace the cache? Have caches been taken/stolen/thrown away, etc. by non-geocachers?
  6. I received it yesterday. Haven't had a chance to go out with it yet. I am waiting on the Mapsend Topo maps as the 2MB base map isn't very detailed. I also ordered a 256 MB Secure Digital card (took back the 128 as the 256 was a better deal) for about $48 after rebate so I'll be able to put lots of maps in there.
  7. GeneralBracket: I'm going to have to pass for now, but thanks. Geo Fool: Yes it is.
  8. I've got one, new, but box isn't sealed (sorry came this way from the store and didn't notice it). I know you want under $50, but they still retail for $150 I think. I'm willing to sell it for $75 shipped to the US (more if outside the US). Let me know if you're interested.
  9. Ok, I updated it, check the second post, couldn't figure out how to edit my post.
  10. quote:Originally posted by mmpoole:The is brand new, but the box is not sealed (got it this way from the store) and I've never used it. I'm looking for about $75 shipped to the United States (can ship elsewhere, but shipping would be more). I would also be willing to trade it for a stand alone GPS unit, but it would depend on which one. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks.
  11. If you decide on a Pocket PC, I'd go for the Dell Axim. I have the basic model (300MHz). It is $250, $200 after rebate (at least a few months ago it was). Best value, even cheaper than a lot of Palm devices these days. The only drawback it is one of the larger Pocket PCs, so decide if size matters. If it doesn't, I highly recommend this.
  12. Just ordered my first GPS (the Meridian basic unit) and would like to get a compass. I really don't want to spend much, otherwise, I'd get a GPS with a compass. Any recommendations of a good, realiable compass to bring geocaching?
  13. Also, from what I've found out, the biggest difference between the sportrak and the platinum is that the platinum is memory expandable, has a real 3 axis compass and a barometer.
  14. Hi, you can ge the Magellan Sportrak Pro GPS with Mapsend US street and destination, carrying case, and a few other things at Costco.com for $275 (so $200 after mail-in rebates). Here is the link if you're interested: http://www.costco.com/frameset.asp?trg=product%2Easp&catid=79&subid=82&hierid=3401&prdid=10028442&log=
  15. Its too bad I don't have Frys around here. I ordered it from outpost.com, which is Frys online site, but it is $140 + shipping on there.
  16. Thanks everyone. I decided to go with #1, the Meridian. It should be here tomorrow, so I can do my first cache hunt this weekend. :-)
  17. Yes, Option 3 is the Costco bundle. It looks good, but you can't expand with a SD card. Is there anything that the Sportrak Pro has that the Meridian GPS doesn't (other than a larger base map and internal memory)?
  18. Ok, I'm down to these choices, I've listed the best prices I can find: 1. Magellan Meridian GPS + Mapsend Topo = $165 after rebate 2. Magellan Gold $180 AR 3. Magellan Sportrak Pro + Mapsend Street & Destination = $210 AR 4. Garmin Etrex Legend $150 AR My price limit is $200 (the sportrak Pro was close enough), so I can't go for the Garmin Vista or the Magellan Platinum. I was planning on choosing the first one, the Magellan Meridian GPS as it is the cheapest, even including the Topo software. I have a 128 MB SD, so I'm not worried about space and I'm assuming the Topo Maps make up for the 2MB Base maps in the unit. I was thinking by adding the 128 SD this unit is at least equivalent to the other ones, but I'm afraid I'm missing something that the others have as this seems to be too good of deal. Does anyone have the Meridian GPS or if it is significally worse that the more expensive units? Thanks. I have a 128MB SD card already if I choose the Meridian Line.
  19. The is brand new, sealed. I'm looking for about $85 shipped to the United States (can ship elsewhere, but shipping would be more). I would also be willing to trade it for a stand alone GPS unit, but it would depend on which one. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks.
