  1. do what you want as long as you're not trying to cheat. there have been times when i've been forced to sign the container itself, rather than a log.
  2. So I'm beginning to organize (plan) an event for this coming spring and need help with ideas for a list of items to find on a scavenger hunt. i have ideas for photo items....but now i need original and interesting ideas for things to find. all ideas are welcome. thanks for your help. btw...this will take place in California, east of San Francisco.
  3. Many times the satellite image is accurate. The last cache I found was done with this tool. It was supposed to be a difficult cache so i pulled up the map to pinpoint the location and ended up walking right to the cache, literally. It was the fastest most accurate find I've ever made.....and the cache was a nano! This was luck and happenstance...but the satellite images are a good tool and are often accurate.
  4. NOPE...I was burned on the other magazine and don't care to lose again. And....the name FTF Geocacher sucks.
  5. Some swag quickly turns to junk due to exposure to the elements. Often sealed containers break down or allow seapage to collect inside. We need to place swag in those little plastic zip lock bags. I detest Pokemon cards and stickers...but only because they were dropped in the cache and later absorbed the moisture. Simply put them in a plastic bag to protect them and you've elevated the quality of the item. Almost everything can be placed in a little plastic bag.
  6. Thanks for cleaning out the trash. I do the same thing. Your're awesome
  7. dont worry about it...just take a sack of dry bread crumbs with you and leave a trail as you geocache. when your done, just turn around and follow your trail.
  8. I haven't read all the replies, so forgive me if this reiterates another opinion. I don't think GC.com would suffer. It would grow accordingly with higher usage thus increasing its advertising rates and income. Being the leader for so many years, GC.com would have a strong market share and be able to survive competition. With more gamers comes more raiding and muggling. Cache numbers may decrease eliminating many of the micros that were placed simply for "numbers". This may result in more larger caches being hid in more interesting and remote areas, rather than the "LPC" and other common cache hides. There would also be more "Premium Members Only" caches being hidden. The game is already changing....corporate sponsors come and go. Jeep and Magellin for instance. The CITO program is also a sponsored program. Further, travel bugs have expanded to now include travel "tags" and geocoins, now compete with Pathtags. Change is good, but there will an increased need to emphasize ethical caching and Cito practices. .... just my humble opinion .....
  9. I'll be attending the local 10 Yr! event in Antioch, CA Looking forward to it!
  10. call back the person you spoke with and get her to email you her response. you can then forward it to the reviewer and it shouldn't be a problem to get this approved.
  11. In Chico, CA: Doggy Pee World Pupply Pee Land Both are located in a very popular Forest Service experimental forest where people walk there dogs.
  12. I've found a couple of these. One was hidden in a crack in a wall and was very hard to find. The other was hidden in the bark of a fallen redwood tree in the middle of the California redwoods with no GPS readings due to the tall tree coverage. Very difficult to find as it was nicely hidden in the shadows of an eroded hole in the tree. I searched forever before expanding the search which lead to my find. read my other adventures at TravelCacher.com
  13. Are there any geocaching blogs out there? I've seen podcasts, but wanted to know of any blogs. I have one (TravelCacher.com), but would like to read what others have to say and share also. Know of any?
  14. I think a night caching icon would be good if there are specifics suggested for distinguishing a night cache from a traditional cache that is available 24 hours. I hate it when cachers tear up the area searching for my caches at night. I'd rather they spend there time searching for caches that are intended to be found in the dark after hours. So yes, I support a night caching icon.
  15. try using MYPUBLISHER>com you choose a photo book style, upload and place your photos then upload it to them and they publish it with a nice dustcover...just like a book from the bookstore! i do this with my caching vacations.
  16. Reflecting on the OP, it may be easier than you think. I too have a lot of hides. When I placed them there were many archived caches in the area and not many hiders. So I placed many new caches. Now that there are more new cachers in the area hiding caches, I've offered to forfeit areas and allow others to adopt my caches. Less work for me to maintain them, and more fun for them to be creative. I'd suggest talking to the other cacher and ask if you could adopt some of their caches. You could share with them that you'd like to hide a higher difficulty (or more creative) cache in their space and ask if they will let you take over their existing cache. You may be surprised at their response. It could be they would gladly adopt some out to you, and welcome the chance to find what you've hidden. This could be a win-win for both parties. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.
  17. Catching up on recent posts, it appears many of us share the same opinion. Taking a moment to reflect on the OP, I am reminded of the behavior of some of our games highest scoring players. While collecting numbers is a game in itself, I'm refreshed to find that many of the biggest scorers search for all the types of caches out there. Without naming names, I've observed that the cacher with the highest score, and many close behind, will hike miles in the hills for a multi just as easily scoop up a lot of LPC's. I agree there is a time and place for all types of caches, from the P&G to the 5/5. I don't fear a future of P&G hides, as those become boring. And as adventurists geocachers desire the challenge of a search in the outdoors.
  18. I encourage the placing of increased difficulty/terrain caches. To me, caching is about the challenge and out door experience. To reduce bad feedback, you could make them premium member only caches. I feel that paying members are more respectful of caches and more likely to play fair while appreciating your efforts.
  19. I love these GeoSeeds! While visiting my sister in Utah I found a few of these and she gave me more. I think it's a great SigItem and very useful. Thank you SirVesa I like to buy fake birds from the craft store and shove these GeoSeeds up their bottom. I then use wires to attach them to trees and bushes, creating a natural looking camo. These caches get very favorable responses from cachers here in California. I wish I had more of them....hint, hint.
  20. a local cacher has solved the problem of trash caching. He made a cache called "Rock in the rocks". This is a micro cahe that he fills with precious and semi precious stones. TRULY! I've found a diamond and an opal. Others have found diamonds, saphires and other real stones. They are very small...but they are real! It's so cool.
  21. I use the E-Trex H and love it. It's simple and gets the job done. I often walk right up to the cache using it. I've found about 1200 caches using it. When I go paperless, I'll upgrade to something more sophisticated. But for now the E-Trex H is awesome and meets all my needs.
  22. Since you're on the topic.... I'm surprised to find no caches around Muir Woods. Maybe you could place one outside the park in the parking lot. Just a thought. If you do, it will definitely be on my list of caches to find
  23. I'm glad it turned out well for you. I've never had a problem with my orders from them. This past fall they were going to send me some things for an event, but I never recieved it. I'm pretty sure they just forgot. They have good stuff. I'd order from them again.
