  1. It's a BCGA coin so what's not to like about the coin
  2. I keep hearing about all these ugly coins that were/are coming out..can you point me to some so I can get a feel for what's considered ugly? If you think all mine fit in that category feel free to let me know. I don't understand the part about getting back to it's roots as well..does that mean getting back to non-trackable coins or is there more to that? I would really like to see more non-trackable myself if that's the case. I just thought most people wanted trackable and icons, which I could never really figure out if most coins were being just collected anyway.
  3. I'm glad this thread got started as it's nice to see some of the old names posting again and I hope you all find some interesting topics or start them up. I know everyone is busy and priorities change but it is nice to see some of the folks that helped start this hobby still hanging around. I do have to say though as a "newbie" I sometimes have a hard time figuring out if some of the comments are meant to be sarcastic or not? I sometimes get the feeling that I'm part of an inside joke.
  4. I've seen a lot of ugly old coins too so not sure it's only the new coins that fit into that category. I agree that people should speak out more (without being malicious) if they have a concern or issue with a certain coin. To comment that it's just plain ugly though doesn't really do anything to create that healthy community. I think it would be more than appropriate to give feedback to help improve designs both positive and negative and I'm sure most people would welcome that. I would be surprised to think that any of the oldtimers (not sure what else to call you all) that I've seen post in these threads would be afraid to post any comments for fear of being flamed.
  5. But where is the flaw if the coins are selling? The designer will continue making similar designs since it must be what people want...maybe not what all of us want but enough to sell out the coins - in most cases anyway. So isn't it the market that drives what coins are considered desirable? So when we think 'original' or 'interesting' it means different things for everyone. So for me it's difficult to imagine what folks might be looking for in a coin...I can only gauge by what seems to sell. So to each his own but it's too bad that everyone posting in this thread couldn't do so more regularly to help get the 'color' back and maybe drive a bit of those design choices as well.
  6. I guess I'm still trying to figure out what it is that people are looking for in a coin - some elaboration would be appreciated. I also hope that if people don't like the coins I have put out that they would provide honest feedback - good or bad. The last thing I want(ed) to do is have a coin that people wish would disappear. Yes, negative feedback would hurt but it would also stop me from bringing out more of the same old same old if that's the case.
  7. I'm real curious as to what an interesting coin would look like? I've often heard it bemoaned that too many 'new' coins just don't have the appeal that the old coins do. I'm just curious what kinds of designs would be more interesting? I too like "some" of the older coins but there are some very unique and interesting coins today as well. Maybe it's the "not cache related" comments I've also heard before? The way I see it - is that a coin is a representation of the individual that created it and since that person is a part of the geocoin/cacher community..then that to me is still geocaching related. Not all new coins appeal to me but I do like to see the creativity and personality of each design.
  8. looks good...my only advice - for what it's worth - would be to put the "requires a different kind of GPS" text on the top of the coin and your cache name just to the left of the praying hands. Then the text doesn't go into the hands at all and is more readable...just a thought. And really looking forward to getting one (or more) of these
  9. I haven't been around long enough to go very far back (plus my memory isn't great) but I rather enjoyed the discussion on moving Mission/Cointest posts to another sub-forum and another thread with a little bit of Geocoin History. So, I learned some things and got involved in a very interesting debate Separate Sub-Folders for Cointests A Little Geocoin History
  10. I personally don't mind the missions but I was burned a couple of time and have not joined in on one for a long time. I really enjoyed them but some folks just sucked the life out of those - for me. Cointests - I don't mind them if they have a point...too many of the "guess my weight today" type cointests for me. The topics I always enjoyed and some stirred the pot a bit...Ownership of gifted/mystery coins, New mystery coin threads (not as many around due to cost, ebay sales, etc), sig items (some aren't allowed to be discussed), geocoin hotels/proxies, etc, I always liked the hearts desire thread but it got to much into a gimme thread, there was a coin photo thread which was cool..got to see great photos of coins I'll probably never see in person, the trade thread too but again, not many older coins available. basically more geocoin/caching topics I guess. I haven't been able to cache for a while now due to health issues so it's nice to hear of others caching adventures.
  11. LMAO! That's very diplomatic of you. Ya, I suppose. And I'll take my share of the blame for that too since I don't contribute much anymore either. I still lurk around the site a lot but most threads don't interest me much. I think someone hit it on the head before..too many coins and you can buy them pretty much at any time. I think a lot of the appeal of geocoins in the "old" days was the trading and trying to get that hard to find coin. The appeal of pathtags - other than being cheaper - is they have a tremendous trading community and that's how they get to know each other so well and there always seems to be something to chat about. When I first started in geocoins I traded (and bought) a lot of coins. Now my interested are mainly the older coins and those don't get traded very often...so for me the fun of geocoins has fallen off a bit. I still like to design coins but I think the Dragon Ladon might be the last we do. I really like this forum and wonder what I can do to help bring some folks back - or maybe it's just the natural progression of things and just need to move with the flow...
  12. ** BUMP ** The Silver Dragon on Antique Copper have also sold out. However, there are still some of the Silver Dragon on Antique Gold left.
  13. There are some coins I would have bid on but the shipping to Canada is a bit high for me. I hope you get some good bids though..
  14. I'm not one of those that was around in the early beginnings of the geocoin discussions but I still miss all the folks that were on even from when I started coming in. The conversations always seemed to be interesting and 'colorful'.
  15. Thanks for the comments on the coin. I hope everyone that wants one gets in on them this time.
  16. OMG!!!!! Me too! I never even knew that coin existed till now. I MUST HAVE 1!!!! I am a huge Stargate fan and that would look great in my collection. If anyone has one, please let me know. Who made this coin, please? Also please remind me who made the Native American Indian Totem coin, please. CF30 It was designed by Mambomania and sold by geocoinshop.de. So the REs may show up for sale again. I have a Antique Silver and Antique Bronze Version for trade, if anyone is interested. Whitby email sent
