  4. Just noticed today that this landmark cache (at the time) has finally had its 100th visitor. Big up to marcb for setting the series up and the bolas heathens for looking after them.

  8. It is possible to drop a tb in without posting a separate log and retrieve it afterwards, im always surprised when i get a tb dip note straight after a found it log, why not drop it in when you post the found log ?? and then retrieve ?? now thats a really ironic double post []

  10. True we were up there last year not a soul in sight. Old Man of coniston is nice as well.
  11. For numbers just drive from skeg to ness. D) Ohter than that shropshire is the best place followed by staffordshire
  12. Having just enjoyed a wonderfull week at River Lark Lodge not exactly caching central but we did a few local ones though id share a few photos. And and being cheeky two more ! Oops forgot the links to our logs. National trust wicken fen 1 -5 Church micro 857 !!! The great war memorial
  13. With all due respect that's a daft thing to say. I would go to Ireland specifically find 'Europe's First' but I wouldn't go just for another new one in the same location! You don't know if it's worth doing until you've done it, but you can almost guarantee that one that has been around for years is going to be worth visiting. Like a many other folk, we're also trying to fill the month set grid... this is a good reason to go the extra mile for an old cache Mark History is important i agree with this ^^^
  14. I disagree. When PVA sets it can become brittle in dry conditions. In damp conditions it can go soggy, slimy and mouldy. Laminate them and then use some good double sided tape to stick them inside the lid or even better make the note the same size as the cover of the log book and stick it on there.. We use Self adhesive lamination pouches when we remember ! (MandL)
  15. Thinking on this a bit more id like a way to ignore all caches listed in a search, for example in the UK id like to ignore all caches with Motorway Mayhem or Skeg to Ness in the title with one click. Please help us filter these out GC for those after the scenery or history or decent long walks with good views these just clog up your nearest unfounds and pocket queries until you individually click ignore.
  16. You are aware that this site fuzzes google map locations of the caches to try and make sure no one uses them to find geo caches ? other than that its usually a datum issue or refresh issue (sat nav in driving maode rather than walking mode for example) if two sets of equipment differ that wildly
  17. Its an ubelievably low number and considering you would have to go to court to prove that a geo cache is litter before levying the £50 fine it very unlikely to ever occur unless its £50 for every offence in which case all those power trails may just cost you a lot Depositing and leaving litter 2004 51 prosecutions with £50 fine 2005 737 prosecutions with £50 fine 2006 1,169 prosecutions with £50 fine 2007 1,374 prosecutions with £50 fine 2008 1,202 prosecutions with £50 fine Ofences of fly tipping are separate from this
  18. Not quite relevant as caches aren't litter. They're not abandoned, and so we generally have a legal right to leave them. Caching in Britain has been going on for centuries and has never been illegal per se. The status of the land isn't relevant either, except in relation to access rights, but if the cache causes a hazard (for instance) it might become illegal. Also, I suppose that if the cache listing is disabled then the physical cache could be regarded as abandoned and then become litter. So strictly speaking, you should remove a cache before its listing is archived. On the "permission" question; if it's right at the side of a public footpath then it's a case of using common sense and take a view based on various other caches that you've found over the last few months. Apart from the special cases mentioned above, no-one can say whether it's right or wrong without knowing the exact location and background to the cache site; which is partly why it's left to the cache owner to decide on the level of permission necessary. Note that SSSI's are not necessarily obvious on the ground. They may extend for miles and include roads, houses and various buildings within them, so you have to check using maps. Or just submit the cache and leave the reviewer to check! If left without permission on another person's property, it is classed as littering. If you leave anything without prior consent, it is litter. Doesn't it have to be discarded or abandoned to be litter? It strikes me that if that is the case, the fine for littering around here is far less than the parking tickets are....I can see an opportunity there People have lots of opinions on this but until there is some actual case law we wont really know the answer and based on the ammount of real litter we see arround i doubt we will ever see a geo cacher prosecutted under the littering laws especially if they have attended CITO events. In response to the OP just check who's land the PF goes through if its a nature reserve, country park etc ask yourself what would be considered adequate permission to place a well hidden box ??
  19. In what plane of existence did Groundspeak ever say they would offer a percentage of the caches to be available in a PQ? Did you know that once when I was in elementary school, I didn't like the color of my black Schwinn Bike. So I took a spray-can and painted everything (including the chain and handlebars) blue. Both of those two statements have about the same relevance to this discussion When you removed or ignored the quote i was replying to of course it made no sense / had no relevance . However as has been repeatedly said throughout this thread and has now been confirmed by Jeremy himself pq's are going to be increased. I will now say that the value of PM to me is going up as pq's are the main benefit for me of a PM. GC's history has been to revisit the pq's every few years and i am pleased to see them do this again. They obviously know more about which PM features are most used and react accordingly over time. Good work GC
  20. Argos pens and ikea pencils are ideal writing implements, sharpen the pencil at both ends before adding it to a cache. If you use a pocket pc or other device that needs a stylus buy the stylus's with built in pens to ensure you never have to sign a log book with a muddy fingerprint.
  21. You may take any of the on liners on my webpage http://markandlynn.croaghan.com/index.html or from the forum FAQ i made many years ago http://markandlynn.croaghan.com/Geocaching.../forum_faq.html and yes i know its out of date and many thanks to Dino for continuing to save these pages for posterity.
  22. GC1RBZ8 Ford and Far between yesterday in sunshine ! had to crop the sun from the top left leaving a nice panorama.
  23. Actually, if you base it strictly on the PQs, the OP is INCORRECT. I signed up shortly before the OP. At the time I signed up you could get 500 caches in a PQ 5 times a day. As of this writing, 4MAR10, you can get 500 caches 5 times a day. No change, no decrease in value, perceived or real. In fact, I think (if memory serves) at some point the PQs were raised from 35 to 40. In that time period they also added attributes as well for filtering for them. I know they added saved PQs recently and, again if memory serves, I think CAaR was added since I became a member. Looks like the value of strictly the PQs went up significantly. In what wierd maths world do you live ?? there are more caches so you can get less % of them for your PQ you can still only use 35 a week most caches have the wrong or no attributes set. and caar is not a pocket query its one of those improved tools i mentioned, as someone else stated 1 pq used to get 25 miles your lucky to get outside your neighborhood with one now, but GC have stated they are adressing this so good news
