  1. One suggestion for you: Before leaving the house to look for a cache, go to Google Maps and enter the cache coordinates (copied from Geocaching.com) to get a rough idea of where the cache is located. Sometimes you can even see such a good map (satellite version) that you don't even need a GPSr.
  2. I’m new at all of this but from reading the above, I suspect some citizens are just out right mean. It sounds like the archived-cache-owner got annoyed by the email and decided to get even by sending the TBs far from their goal. Geocaching attracts all kinds of people, and some are jerks.
  3. I attended a relatively small event in May (about 60 people), and even in that event, there are still two Travel items listed. 'Twixt Spring 'n Summer - 2009.
  4. I always try to mention in my cache log if a TB/coin is not in the cache, and I also try to add a Note to the TB/coin page indicating this. This way the cache owner and TB/coin owner will be notified and can mark the item missing.
  5. Some owners get upset when their TB or coin goes in a direction contrary to its goal, and others (like myself) don't care much, because the shortest distance is not always a straight line. I recently had a TB in my possession (in MA) that has a goal of VT, but I dropped it in Las Vegas. Lots of people from across the country visit Las Vegas, and maybe someone from VT would pick it up? On the other hand, last year I took a TB from the US to Germany to within a hundred miles or so of its goal, but in the subsequent year, it has moved a few hundred miles within Germany away from its goal. That's life with Travelers.

  9. How many caches can the 400t store? Garmin's website says the new 550t can hold 5000, but it does not specify for the 400t. One might presume that they would be the same since both models have 850 MB of RAM, but oddly the number of tracks (and waypoints) are not the same according the the Garmin website. Thanks They are different. The 400t holds 2000 waypoints/caches. I wonder why this is, if they both have the same amount of memory (RAM)? Puzzling.

  11. I have not kept up on the forums lately, but what is the consensus on the best hand-held unit for paperless caching, if money is no object? I mean a unit that can get the cache coordinates and the logs downloaded. Thanks!
  12. I missed these. Will there be any available later, or were they pre-order only?
  13. What about Twitter? I don't see any mention of it on your profile. (?)
  14. I know what you mean, but I did release one of my NAWWAL Tengwar coins into the wild in Germany. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1875684 So far so good with it moving. These coins are so beautiful that I felt that at least one of mine needed to be shared!
  15. I don't think there are any differences in the Terms of Usage/Service for Basic versus Premium Members. Why would there be?
  16. If we order from the USA, do we pay the price "including VAT" or "excluding VAT"? Thanks
  17. You are confusing membership with premium membership. You are a member yourself, and you have to be a member of geocaching.com to be logged in (the free membership is enough, you don't need to be a premium member). Non-members have no login and cannot see profile pages The terms you want are "Basic Members" and "Premium Members." I think that all of the confusion is understandable, given how this "gift" link looks on the profile of a basic member: I could easily see someone looking that that and saying "Why should a buy a gift membership for someone who is already a member?" not realizing that, in this case, "Member" means "Basic Member", while "Membership" means "Premium Membership". It's really not very clear (on this page) that those are two very different things. Perhaps this phrasing would be less confusing? "give a gift membership or membership extension"
  18. 'This is an outrage! How dare Groundspeak enable people to give me gifts! I won't stand for it! I demand my rights to use these forums as a non-paying basic member! Harrumph!' Jeez, some Geocachers have some seriously odd notions. I had to search for several minutes even to find this "gift certificate link" on my profile page. Looks fine to me.
  19. I don't see much point in adopting a TB. There is no maintenance involved with a bug, and there is no real need for a TB to have a goal. Just let it keep on traveling, and you can put it on your watch list. No point eh? How about adopting all yours to me? I mean if all you want is to get the email when it's logged I'd be happy hold the listing for you. How would you get more enjoyment from holding a listing than from simply watching it? I really can't understand this.

  21. I see that this software is now called Road Trip (formerly Bobcat). Do you need to have unlocked maps to use it? I have City Navigator, but I only have it on microSD card. Thanks
  22. Yes, surprisingly they seem to last exactly the same amount of time for some reason I can't fathom. If I buy multiple versions of a coin, the one I release into the wild is the one that looks the worst, thinking it might have a longer lifetime. Maybe I am fooling myself.
