  1. This isn't much help, but better than nothing . . . Using zip code 33043 for a search, with 75 mile radius it get's all the caches in the Keys (And some you need a boat to reach.) Can't help much with the rest of it though.
  2. quote:Originally posted by protocoldroid:actually, yes before my grandparents went on the quest for 'the great geocache in the sky', they lived in Islamorada -- and I went to keywest once when I was 12... Growing up in picket-fence new hampshire... Krikes was that a shock -- guess my parents should've stuck with "theatre of the sea"!!!! Now if you'll just say it was for fantasy fest I'm going to fall out of my chair laughing . . . And how did we get to this again from the original question?
  3. I remember when I was about 14 my father talked about the old playboys being tasteful . . . and I thought he had no idea what good porn was. Good point with that one Protocol. And I was revisiting this so I could post about how off tangent we had gotten, LOL.
  4. I think an adult themed cache would get *tons* more people interested in caching here . . . Ever visit Key West? The whole island is adult themed, and *much* worse than old playboys.
  5. If you do make an adult only cache and put these in it, please place it near me. I don't know what I'd leave as a trade item on that one though . . . have to think on that. I know that this whole post has been off topic, but I think the old playboys are pretty classy and enjoy when I run across one . . . I would also really enjoy it if there was anyway for me to post to this thread as not opposed to the playboys and not come across as a pervert . . . Does it make a difference if I say I don't think they should be in a regular cache?
  6. Ok, I've got one more question then. In the MeriPlat 4.02 update, the readme says that it's for the Platinum only. In the 4.06 update, it says it's for the Gold only. Anyone seen a 4.06 that has a Readme saying it's actually for the Plat? Thanks!
  7. On my MeriPlat I've got version 4.02. Usually, I have about 10' EPE with it, and 9-11 sats. Every once in a while though (maybe once a week), I do notice that for roughly 30mins to 2 hours my EPE can jump up to 168'. I read on the Coast Guard site something about accuracy being on and off now. (Can't find the link now, had something to do with the simulated terrorist thing I think.) I'd just attributed it to that. I had to upgrade my firmware to be able to download maps/waypoints, I wan't able to with the old version. With 3.12 are you able to? Thanks
  8. Edit: Took too long with this one I guess, had more responses while I was typing. The filename bug with Netscape is a pain. I use Firebird (www.mozilla.org - formerly Phoenix) and they have fixed that bug. Netscape just hasn't updated with the latest code yet. Plus Firebird has tabbed browsing! Hope this helps! quote:Originally posted by Skippy2: When I choose "Open" my browser (Netscape) asks me to select an application to open the file. And have you selected EasyGPS withing Netscape to open .loc files? If you say "Open" then when it asks for the program, browse to EasyGPS and select it. Should work. Also, in the preferences for Netscape there are "helper applications", create a new one for .loc file types and tell it to use EasyGPS to open them. Hope that helps!
  9. With my MeriPlat I had to update it to version 4.02 in order for it to communicate with my PC. I couldn't find anything published about this. Anyone else have a similiar problem with that?
  10. quote:Originally posted by Brad B:Love it, and unlike the EasyGPS, MapSend allows me to communicate with the GPS at 115200 bps instead of 4800 bps. My MeriPlat talks with EasyGPS at 115200 . . . do other people have a problem getting it to work at high speeds?
  11. Well, I guess I'm a little late on this one, but I'll put in my say anyways. I have the Ultimate GPS Case from thegpsstore. Meridian Platinum fits great in it, has pockets for batteries (or I guess you could put the cable or something in there,) my cellphone fits well in the mesh pocket in front too. Which means fewer things clipped to my belt, which I like. Also holds a small mag light perfectly. One feature I liked on this one was the "raincoat" it has built in, makes me not worry about having my cellphone and batteries in it. And for JamieZ, it's very quick and easy to get the GPS out of the case. And I've never had it lose satellite lock while in the case. Hope that helps someone!
  12. quote:Originally posted by oregonature:What if no one responds to the email asking about the cache? Will it become archived or in-active somehow? Who will remove it or adopt it? Maybe local active GeoCacher could be emailed and asked to help in removal or adoption. Did you know that the base of my wine glass fits perfectly into a family size tomato soup can? Responses posted in order of questions: 1)I'd say account should be removed to allow for more future cachers to sign up. Only problem I'd see is what happens to old logs of theirs if someone takes same name? 2)I say archive cache 3)See below 4)Think this is a great idea. They could either remove the cache or adopt it and have the cache unarchived, depending on what they are able to do. I don't imagine it would put too big a burden (if any burden at all) on any one cacher, so I think it could definately be do able.
  13. Wow, scary story. Last time I was in California I saw a jogger get eaten by 3 pitbulls. He ended up in critical for months after that. People had boulders at least 14" around beating the dogs on the head with, didn't even slow them down. Ever since then I'm *really* not a big fan of pitbulls. Just too unpredictable. On another related note, for bears I always carry a short shotgun with alternating slugs/buckshot. I don't trust pepperspray, and if I miss with a slug, buckshot should blind one. My father was deer hunting in Alaska once. He was charged by a bear at about 5'. Luckily he had the rifle ready to fire, shot from the hip and dropped the bear. Even if he had bearspray, he had no time to pull it. Personally, I'd rather drop something coming at me than take a chance. Maybe I think too much of myself, but I think my life is a little more valuable than a dogs/bears.
  14. Well, I use a 92 Corvette, half (Haven't finished it yet) setup for racing, for my cache car. Get's you there fast if there's a road . . . if not, you've got a lot of walking to do.
  15. Am I the only one that just grabs my GPS and maybe a spare set of batteries before going running off? Well, not quite true. I bring my cell phone too; figure with the GPS locator in it if someone needs to find me they should be able to. I just figure nothing too bad will happen to me until it's my time to go. Stupid? Maybe, but it's worked so far...
  16. Did one 1.78 miles in 90 degree heat last week. Great hike; not too long, not too short, and some really creepy bugs along the way! Oh yeah, and a few inmates on the trail on the hike back . . . but at least the were cleaning some of the trash up! Edit: I completely forgot to say what I had orignally started writing for. Even if there is trashy stuff in the cache, I still got to find a new place I didn't know about and have a very nice hike. So it was worth it to me!

If I don't get one soon I'll ban that account too and work to block their IP from access. Unfortunately they are an Earthlink customer so it would be hard to ban him without banning all of Earthlink. Jeremy Irish Groundspeak - The Language of Location Hello, If you can look at a few of the IP's that they have used to log into the system, you should be able to find which dialup bank they are using to access the site. Once you have that, it's easy enough to block just that bank . . . so long as no other members are using the same bank. -Will
  18. Perhaps Poker Flats near Fairbanks, Alaska. They have small missiles that they launch for scientific research, and I've heard when they launch them for testing they've sometimes been used for interesting purposes. Maybe he could hitch a ride on a test shot. They've got a good sense of humor up there, so they might be willing to go for it.
  19. www.macgpspro.com Software: ~50.00usd Cable: ~50.00usd Not too bad, $100 and one extra cable. -W
