  1. Geocoin Fantasy Baseball is back! Our draft is this Sunday, the 16th, at 12:30pm Pacific, 3:30pm Eastern. So far we have six teams and can have up to ten teams. Entry fee is one geocoin.

Send me an email if interested, thanks!

  2. I'll apologize in advance for my newbie'ish question:

I have a coin I just picked up in a cache. It's been from England, through America and now crossing Canada. It originated in 2007.

I'd love to mail this coin to a fellow cacher so he/she could drop it in their location (hopefully more than 1000km away).

Is this a normal practice? Would anyone be interested?

I'm not asking anything in return. Only that you can ensure you''ll place it in a cache near you.

I, of course, will incur all costs it takes to get it to you.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    :)

I can't speak for others but with my traveling geocoins, I like them to travel "naturally", from cache to cache, not by being mailed from one cacher to another. The best thing to do is contact the geocoin owner and ask him or her what they would like you to do with it.

  3. Delete all bogus logs. Virtual logging is frowned upon. If done deliberately, it can get a trackable page locked.

one of my coins has been discovered virtually and i don't remember how to delete the log. and i don't seem to see an option to do so on the coin page.

    thanks,

    lara

On your geocoin page, click Visit Log on the log you want to delete. Then you'll see a red trash can. Click on that and "Are you sure you want to delete this log entry?" will pop up with Cancel or Yes. Click Yes and the log will be deleted.

Just now I deleted a bogus log from cacher Foolie on a geocoin that I have sitting here at home.

  4. I opened my mailbox today to find a bubble mailer and I knew there was a coin in it right away. I knew I hadn't bought or traded for a coin in a very long time so I was perplexed. But then I saw it was addressed to me from me and I knew a mystery coin had arrived. I've released many, many, many traveling geocoins and many, many, many of them have gone missing so I guess this coin is perfect for me. Although I'm very laid back (I think it's a Hawaii thing) so my missing geocoins don't stress me out. And there's always the possibility of them reappearing...just had one reappear after a couple of years missing. Thanks to the mystery coiner!

  5. Wow, lots of names from the recent past! I remember finding my first geocoin in a cache (in early 2005), and like Kealia, it was also an Oregon geocoin dropped by Nurse Dave. Not knowing what it was worth, I think I left a dollar bill! Of course, I've since made up for it by dropping lots of coins. And I remember the days of hitting F5 and also remember a couple of coins being put up on eBay and watching them be snatched up in seconds. Over the years, especially since I moved back to Hawaii, I haven't been involved in geocoins too much as there aren't events to go to here and other geocoiners to talk with and trade with. It's been at least a couple of years since I minted a coin and I'm not sure when my next coin will be, if ever. I pop into these geocoin forums every once in a while to see what's going on.

I've since moved on to collecting other things. I've sold many of my geocoins that I had no personal attachment to, since they were just sitting in boxes or containers not doing anything. I've bought a couple of display cases and put those up in my office but they don't hold too many so maybe I'll have to get a couple more.

Anyway, it's been nice reading all the memories you all have. Hope you're all doing well!

  6. Jenn says thanks for the congrats! She finally was able to ride her favorite team (Michigan) all the way to the championship game this year.

I told her since she was only playing for fun she's not eligible for the prize. I said I'd share with her. =)

  7. This year's Geocoin Fantasy Baseball league is open for registration. Send me an email through my profile and I'll send you the league # and password. Entry is one unactivated geocoin with the pot to be divided at the end of the season. If we have 10 teams, it'll be six coins to first place, three coins to second place, and one coin to third place. All coins must be mailed to me within two weeks of the season starting as we've had trouble with coins not being sent to the winners at the end of the season. Please include your Yahoo nickname with your coin so I can determine who sent what geocoin.

The live draft will be Sunday, March 24th, 3:00pm Pacific, 6:00pm Eastern, etc. If you can't make those times, you can set your draft ratings and it'll auto draft for you.

Let me know if you have any questions and Play Ball!!!

  10. WOW! It looks like my over the pond trading is stopped in its tracks.

Edit to add: Not just over the pond. It's the same to Canada too..

To Canada has gone up by the same amount EH!??

Yes, do tell. I have not yet shipped to Canada and was thinking it would still be a few $ less that the rest of the world.

It looks like the first two ounces to Canada are the same as the rest of the world but it's cheaper 3 ounces and up.

  11. Wait till you guys see the new international shipping rates. They practically make the math trade not worth doing. Under an ounce is $6.55. Most coins are $9.55 postage only and some super heavy coins like Trees and Men are $12.55 for postage.

Holy smokes, I knew the domestic rate went up a penny but I didn't realize the intl rate were going up that much, over 300%! I have multiple coins going to Europe in the trade. Oh well, might make me rethink doing the mathtrade again and also selling coins on eBay as well, unless those intl buyers are okay with paying $10 to ship one coin!

Too bad the math trade didn't finish one week earlier!
