  1. Not a newbie for sure I to am surprised they missed this. Gosh I hope not I put alot of time into this bug. I had trouble finding this page. Many thanks. And I just double checked that. Ya it must of been a misprint? Possibly the guy had logged so many that he didn't notice. Wish I spoke German. Excatly what I will do. Many & Much thanks for all the input. Have a Great Summer! 2. I had a Travel bug go MIA in 2003. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?guid=36d7a848-ec2a-4dd2-9a7f-99c0a004853a It went missing from a Cache that had seen some muggle activity & I had come to expect that it would never be found. The other day I got an e-mail (owner notification) that someone logged a find on it. It appears they found it at a GeoEvent in Germany? And the log is in German. I dropped them a message via geocaching but haven't gotten any reply. Possibly due to the fact that they maybe don't understand english? I'm reluctant to believe that it is even the right bug. But I would certainly like some confirmation. So ya I'm not sure what I should do next. Any thoughts, ideas or direction would be most appreciated. Many Thanks NoRain
  3. Can a Travel Bug be activated if I no longer have the Activation code? I know TB's have gone through some changes. The ones I speak of are the older metal ones. The package came with a code/sticker on it but I no longer have the code. Can they still be activated & if so how? Many thanks for any and all replies/direction. Scott

    Pictures

I just got done uploading pictures from an In-Cache camera. I missed the up load of one and now it's at the bottom, (out of order). In-Cache Camera I know I know, no big deal right? But I would be much happier if I could reorder them without having to reload them. Also I do a thumbnail group of them all and like to have that one start the set. I did the thumbs after the up load so now it shows at the end. I'ld like to put it at the begining. I wasn't happy with the scan quality I did last night at work & once I get my Scanner hooked up to my new Mac I will rescan them and load them properly. But for future reference... Is there a way a Paid meber like myself can reorder them manualy? Thanks for any and all replies. Scott

    Bookmark List

I would love to see last found dates on my bookmark lists.
  6. Another idea... This may not be so much an advantage when only uploading just one or two pics, but when doing many it would. When uploading a number of pictures to a site, (like the 26 cache camera pictures I just finished doing). PM's could get the option to select a folders worth of pictures, or atleast a handfull at a time, (as I imagine improper formats within a folder might complicate the upload). Then some way to edit all descriptions in one shot. Maybe with a preview & submit button when done. Next Idea not such a big deal. I think I'm thinking too much... I think. PM's could get the option of organizing the order their pictures list in. (Currently Pictures list in the order we upload them). And look you can now format text here in the forums! Just kidding! It's always been that way. Many thanks Stunod. My Bad
  7. I recently read most of the replys & just now browsed threw them all. Excellent ideas from both briansnat & especialy dunos!!! And others too. Having just spent some time updating the html on some of my cache pages I came upon a "Great Idea". See idea#1. I also am adding a few other thoughts. Hope they help! Seems to me minor features and functionality aren't enough to entise members to pay up. More html Functionality for premium members I think is what will ultimetly achieve it. 1. When updating our cache page give paying members a Preview option. We can modify the looks of our pages by writting html but as said by someone else it is limited to certain pages and not all. 2. Ability to write html on all pages as well as logs for caches we found. 2 1/2. "Generic" page design of our Cache pages for non members. Choice of a couple different customizable designs/layouts for paying members. 3. Abilty to bold or italicise type in the forums, like the numbers of my ideas for instance. 3 1/2. Spell chek fer us bad spellers. In another thread it was mentioned, by Jeremy I believe, that a flower idea was kicking around to show the owner activity of a cache page. 4. For paying members be able to do this and 1 step further hows about a choice of flowers or plants ect. 5. Automated html for those who don't know how to write html. Some have come up with a membership package idea. Though that does sound interesting it would also bring up the membership fee too. Those of us who paid anyway might not dig the higher renewel fee's. Many may not be interested in the items & not willing to pay more. 6. What if there was a package available only to members? At a lower price of course, at cost even. The site already now has the money from the premium membership so if this option brings the number of members up then you have already gained. Does that description make any sense? As always keep up the existing Great work.
  8. Many thanks for all the words of encouragement, ideas and info. I believe what I shall do is move it back a bit. Though my idea of a great cache is somewhere with a view, I too am not hip on virtuals. I don't know what it is about tupperware filed with toys but it just won't feel complete unless I have a toy to trade and a log to sign. I dread the thought of making this a virtual but just wanted to know where I stood should I pick that avenue. Per all these fine words I will certainly keep it traditional. I know that dog! I met him once. The second cacher I ever met on the trail, well 3rd if you count his owner. Thanks again to all.
  9. Understandably so, one can not hide a cache too close to another cache. Understandably so, one can not change a traditional cache to a virtual. Due to tampering with one of my caches... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=87601 I'm now thinking it is better if it were a virtual. If I archive it can I post a virtual in the same location? Thanks for any & all replies.

    Log Pictures

I'm going to be uploading more Camera Cache pictures to a log at one of my sites. Currently I have 20 pictures, I will also be adding the pictures from the 2nd camera. Now Follow me here... I don't want people to have to scroll way down to read others posts. So I'm going to submit these pictures to my & this sites 1st log entry. Is there a limit to the amount of pictures one log can have? If so... I can add a new log to accommidate. It's not critical but I'ld like to know in advance. Thanks.
  11. URL to that log, Excellent Idea! Not really the answer I was looking for but still, it will be a great addition to my description. Thanks. It seems the pictures are deleting. I guess I just had to wait for the server to catch up with what I was doing. All is well now. But now I have a new question... How many pictures can I add to a single log?
  12. I'm about to upload the 2nd set of cache camera pictures to one of my sites. I added the 1st cameras pictures to the site description, but with the addition of this 2nd camera it is going to push logs way down the page. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...5f-ca19861b5ab2 Awhile back I requested a seperate place for Cache camera pictures. Since this never happened I'm going to move all current pictures & new ones to my 1st log entry. I just went in and proceded to delete the current pictures and they are not removing? If all I can get is advise on deleting them that would suffice but now, as I post this question I'm thinking something else... Can they be moved manualy to my 1st log and be done onsite by someone at the site? This would save a ton of time for me and not add any unessacary band use time. Any & all help is most appreciated. Replies or e-mails Thanks.
  13. I was using high compression it seemed to work for some but not all. Like you said it depends on the detail in the picture.. I just resized one that wasn't behaving and it uploaded fine this time. I will resize as needed. ThankYou very much for the info.
  14. I'm working on scanning & uploading photos from a camera I had in one of my caches I am cropping them & saving them all at the same dpi & pixel base (72 dpi 600 pixels) they all come out with a file size of 283k saved in a jpg format. I've uploaded a few all sized to what I like, now all of a sudden new uploads are being resized by the system, coming out real big. Anyone have similar problems? Anyway to keep the system from enlarging them.

    2 Ideas

    1. I recently uploaded pictures from a camera I had at one of my caches and I have two thoughts on how it, I think, could be better organized. Upon finishing my uploads there is now a huge single column list running down the page. And if you go into the "Gallery Page", by the way this is one fine addition to the site, anyway now it is also filled with the pictures finders took with the cache camera. What if the pics from the cache camera were a seperate page all together? As well as uploading every individual one I also organized them all into one big thumbnails file with corresponding #'s. Automatic clickable low res thumbnails would of been a great feature. though Likely it's a little more difficult to implement. 2. I try to e-mail my freinds & family to have them check out my latest logs. Now we are able to "watch" any cache right, my brother suggested that it might be cool to be able to also watch any user. This would be especialy great as we could watch to see where friends in other places are going & doing. Thoughts? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?
  16. After much surfing to varius cache Pages I've begun to notice that some are adding photos to there cache descriptions as well as TB pages. Not links like what you get when you upload photos. These are on screen as soon as you go to a cache page. I also saw Rules added. I've also seen a TB page where the background was a tiled image instead of the white you see now. Now I have a few caches and one TB and am pretty sure there is no where in the edit window to do these things. After some investigation I found that I can add html to my descriptions to acheive a custom cache page. So before I go off & jaz up my pages. I'ld like to ask... Is this an exceptable practice. Or would Geocaching rather I not do this. Thanks for any & all replys Scott ~NoRain~
  17. Decided after much thought I wanted two things from my GPS. A Helix Quad but more importantly the option of an external antenna. Also I wanted to have it waas capable. I bought... A GPS V Really Happy with it. Thanks for all the replyes & help! Scott
  18. I had this cool idea for a new user name. I have 7 Logs and one hidden cache. If I change it does the system automaticly change my current logs & hides ect. ? Thanks for any and all replys. Scott ~NoRain~
  19. WOW! Like there IS a ton of talk on this topic... Not surprising, as GPS's ARE the heart of this Great new "Game". Thanks To All! I have learned alot! I'm going to get a GPS that allows a seperate Antena and I'm gonna run a wire to my Kayak Helmet and mount a Dish on top of it. Great Idea! Ay? Seriously though, I will continue my research of different brands and make a purchase within the next couple weeks. During this buy... No Patches! Will be my motto. Thanks again to all! 20. My first experience with a GPS was a couple years ago using my Brothers Garmin. He bought his originaly for Flying and this is what the unit is designed for. It is a Garmin GPS III. Note this unit has an external antena, it is connected to the unit but swivels up. I do alot of hiking off trails in heavy tree cover and this unit was great! Anyway after using it a bit I decided to go out and buy my own. I decided to stay with Garmin but researched some of the different models and made my decision. I bought the Garmin eTrek Summit. It seemed to be more designed for the Hiker. It was a SWEET little device. I was so Happy. It has many GREAT features. Then I got it in the woods and it kept losing sattelite connections. There was Light tree coverage and semi clear skys. Now The GPS III was keeping Sattelites through trees Overcast Skys and I also had it hooked on my belt, it never lost satelites. I decided the Summit must be broke, right? So I brought it back told them it didn't work and got the same model. But once again I had no Luck. I tested both models side by side and the Summit lost sattelites while the GPS III kept its connections. So my question... Does anyone know is the Antena in a GPS III superior to the Summit? This was Two years ago and now the other day my Brother & I found our first Cache and I am seriously thinking of getting another one. I also read here in the forums that Magelin is known for better coverage through heavy trees. Is that true and why? Anyway thanks for any and all replys. Scott ~BLIZZARD~
