When you use your credit card at least you can try and dispute it with card. My credit card expired on Paypal and I don't plan to renew it. As for different types of memberships and hubby and wife EACH having to pay!...That sounds like AAA. Because I paid for ME to be a member of AAA my husband was out of luck when my car, that he was driving blew out. AAA would only tow him if I came to be with the car...however they could sell him a membership. No thanks ...I cancelled with them after waiting on the side of I-45 in the rain for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
  3. I took it off battery saver...thanks for telling me that.
  4. Thanks for all the help! I was just wondering why the etrex says " waypoints" instead of co-ordiantes. SO now I see... Thanks for all the help! Now if I could get my dang Etrex to NOT have the time delay on it.
  5. I just got a brand new Etrex. I like the ease of the buttons and use. But mine seems to have an almost 30 second time delay on the arrow/compass. For example when I walk, the thing changes feet but it takes the arrow 30 seconds or more to tell me the direction I should go. What's up? SHould I return? Thanks Becki
  6. I never fly, I only take Amtrak. As a passenger I have followed the news about the terrorists trying to derail passenger trains. So I would be unhappy if someone put a cache near rail lines...sort of the way you would not put one on a tarmac or under an airport terminal. Just seems to be too suspicious with our new paranoid environment. I visit the website: railforum.com for all the latest rail news.
  7. Can I ask a possibly dumb question? What is the difference between a waypoint and a co-ordiante? I have the simple , low tech Garmin Etrex so I can't download into it. I feel like when I do a Pocket Query, the numbers are not the same as on the cache page. Thanks!
  8. This is sort of subject that upsets me for the following reason: I don't like people making private or reserved God's land. There are several groups dedicated to "preserving" certain pieces of land. What that means is that no one can come visit unless you are an educator or environmentalist. And then you can only go on certain days. I am neither. I am just a person that like to see nature.
  9. Looked good until I saw 75 entry fee....
  10. lol...right after I whined here, I got a great notcie that someone picked up my TB... thanks!
  11. I wish when I pull up a zip code list, it listed the co-ordinates too. This way I could print out a quickie list without the whole page of each cache. ( I think the pocket queries might do this, but mine is off or something). I wish there was a way to blanket email people in my area( that say it is ok) ...for example.. I have a travel bug that was moved a mile CLOSER to me. I would love to be able to email people near my TB and beg them to go move it! I wish there was a forum for just Texas. I wish it would stop being hot or rainy..ok..I know you can't help me with that.
  12. I would try and help you out. People up in the North part of Houston, Spring Woodlands etc. are pretty active. However, I will not meet anyone from the internet. But if you want to ask the holder of your TB to MAIL it to me, I will be sure to put it in a good cache near me. My email address is: yummykaz@aol.com . Email me and I will email you my address to mail TB
  13. You know the saying...One man's junk is another's treasure. The worst I saw was USED playdough in a cache. Yuck! The dollar store near me often buys out stores. I got brand new Nintendo adaptors and other things with 15-30 dollar price tags from Zainy Brainy on them for 1.00. My daughter left for college and was going to trash all her PEz collection. I tossed them in my stash bag. Many people collect Pez's. She was going to trash her Phish and NOFX etc. collections as she is "too big" or does not like them. Again, I put them in stash. Although they are used, some people may love these things. And like all say...it is NOT about the stuff, but the search, and the time spent with my kids and hubby out doors.
  14. As a mom of three, I NEVER let my kids open the Cache first. That is for me or my husband to do. And I am not worried about knives, but more like bugs and snakes. The way we work it, is the kids and us find, we open, they choose what to take and we choose what to leave. We log it and we return it as original. As a leatherman lover ( the multi tool) not the Saturday night live skit, I love multi tools. My dad who used to work for airport security told me how many they confiscated and tossed daily...
  15. As a wife of a very romantic guy, I can state that I NEVER appreciate his romantic actions enough. With work, kids etc. the wife and mothers that we are forget to appreciate your thoughtfulness. I bet you had as much fun planning this, as you did during it! While our kids were at camp my hubby and I geocached some before it got to hot. I enjoyed just being with him outside, walking around. That to me was romantic on its own! I hope your wife appreciated it. I'm sure she did.
  16. Not to bash reporters....but.. I have been interviewed twice by local TV station...once about why I don't fly on airplanes, and second about the meningitis outbreak in our area. Both times I felt like I was talking through the reporter. The reporter had a specific "take" on how she wanted the story to slant. For example, I was trying to tell her how I stopped flying quite a while ago and how I love taking trains. Her spin was how everyone should stop flying ( it was right after 9-11) and didn't I think so. Well, no I don't think that! But that is what she tried to keep getting me to say. So beware in being interviewed unless it is live, they will spin you to their POV.
  17. http://www.businessweek.com:/print/magazine/content/03_35/b3847109_mz025.htm?mz Thought the article was lame. To short. To sound bite. Jeremy: write them a letter to editor to run a correction. I get the magazine and feel like I ave seen them run corrections.
  18. I also meant to add in reply to the "possible competition" take: Sometimes an original idea is hard to beat. For example, Ebay...is great,,whereas Yahoo auctions are terrible. Sometimes the first to do it, is the first to have a good audience that must interact with each other to make it work. If a better auction site, say with free listings, started they would overtake ebay. But the host of the site would make no money. Geocaching has the audience...now they need to make some money to stay afloat for the participants. Seems pretty much like high school economics to me.
  19. I am a paying member, so start counting. I feel the fun I have received from Geocaching far exceeds the fair investment. I can't imagine why you would want to know that anyway? Knowing how many paid members there are won't find you a cache. Am I worried that I paid 30 bucks and geocaching is going to run off? No.
  20. I just got my Texas Topo and a very nice welcome package. You can imagine how hard it will be to find a place to hike in Houston...the flatest place in the world. Hey it will give me an excuse to geocache MORE! My first report begins when : 1. It is under 98 degrees for more than 2 consecutive days. 2. The mosquitos take a break.
  21. Thanks everyone for your ideas! I really appreciate it and all the help offered.
  22. Thought all you photo shoppers can help me. I need to do a map from the house of worship to the hotel for an upcoming family event. Does anyone know where I can create a pretty, fun map that I could insert icons etc? The Mapquest maps are sort of dull. I am looking for a program where I could draw my own almost. I saw a beautiful map in the previous Martha Stewart magazine that looked drawn by an artist. I don't have money for that! Thanks for any tips. Becki
  23. Pnew...enjoyed an article about a local . Nice article and you "represented" very well! If you are ever up Northish part of town, check out my hidden cache! Becki [This message was edited by Team Kaz on August 14, 2003 at 08:09 PM.]
  24. I am not a psychic, but I did predict that dope would be in your cache...see above post by me yesterday. This should be a warning to all! You are lucky you did not get slammed. By the way, did the police confiscate and evidence?
