I guess I am not sure what that means. We have all sorts of caches here to come find! There wasn't an event or anything that day. I am not sure what that was. We have a second Saturday event in the state every month and this coming Saturday it is in Brookings. Next month it will be in Sioux Falls again. StaticTank

Im going to be in Brookings SD at the end of the month
StaticTank replied to eridge74's topic in Midwest
There are a lot of caches in Brookings. I can't remember any extra special ones but the one that is located in the tower near the school is pretty cool. There is also one on a red metal sculpture that I really enjoyed. Hope you have a good time! StaticTank -
Cache Across America - South Dakota needs apotion
StaticTank replied to martinell's topic in Midwest
I was going to suggest room104 but looks like you already found him! StaticTank -
I AM very much into FTFs, seems that this is a sin if you frequent the forums. My fellow FTF hounds and I ALWAYS make sure to log them ASAP, it is not fair to anyone to leave them hanging. A lot of comments to the effect of "You get a smiley anyway" aren't exactly fair. If it is a work day and I know a new cache has been found I won't take my lunch to run and get it, I would wait until the weekend or after work to go. StaticTank

Any cache along the Iron Mountain road (Mount Rushmore area all the way over) offers spectacular scenery and a few decent short hikes. Several very nice caches as well. Also several nice caches in the Silver Mountain area Between Rushmore and Rapid City. Best cache near Custer is http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f6-efbef980920b Not sure where the one above here is since I can't seem to access the website, but Ingrasol Mine #2 (Not sure the exact name) is one of the best I have been to. Colorado software version 2.94 Beta
StaticTank replied to allory's topic in GPS technology and devices
If you have caches loaded before you do the update (especially single .gpx files) they will work after you update. If you delete them and load those same caches after the update they won't show up. StaticTank -
Colorado software version 2.94 Beta
StaticTank replied to allory's topic in GPS technology and devices
Flashing back and forth doesn't help with Geocaches/GPX files. If you have a GPX file on the unit when you flash back and then up to 2.94 again it will show up but if you add new caches individually they still don't show up...at least for me. I will be staying with 2.92 for the time being. Works great. StaticTank -
Colorado software version 2.94 Beta
StaticTank replied to allory's topic in GPS technology and devices
Mine does as well...... mine also does it using other POI's such as food, shopping and others.... Mine did it as well. I would go back to the 2.92BETA if I were you. I'm doing it. With the 2.94, the unit is worthless. Does any one have the 2.92 Beta download. I didn't save it. I would love to get a PM from someone who can help me out!! StaticTank -
Yes close this one. There are about 5 more. I tried to post one and kept getting any error so I didn't think they went through...Since I couldn't view any topics and they didn't show up as the latest topic, I kept trying. Don't worry I bet there are about 5 more out there with a similar title. I was only able to post a note about closing them on two of them since I can't get back into look at them again... *sigh* will this never end?!? StaticTank

Please close this, while the forums were dying today I tried to post this topic and it failed every time. I guess it actually went through but lost the message. StaticTank

I guess my topics went through anyway. The original message was cut off somewhere. You can close these threads. StaticTank

I would say you are correct. I have been trying for four hours to get to the forum. I think this is getting out of hand... StaticTank

I have been sitting here for AN HOUR AND A HALF trying to get on the forums. I normally don't complain and I hate all the messages about how they aren't working. Well, here is my complaint. They are NOT WORKING! This is becoming unacceptable. Almsot every day I have some crash or error while trying to access some part of the forums. I am not even sure how I was able to post this message without a crash...oh wait hold on this is my SIXTH try because the first five times it CRASHED!!! AN HOUR AND A HALF! StaticTank

You need to browse to the GPX folder and manually delete the .gpx files on a computer.

I was not jesting. The screen shot did not include the Wherigo icon, which made me curious. At that price, (as compared to the other Wherigo compatable units they sell), it would make a good entry level Wherigo device. Since they currently have 11 devices which will play Wherigo cartridges, I doubt having this questioned answered will demonstrate Garmin's stance one way or the other. The screen shot only shows one page of icons. If you notice the arrows at the bottom you can scroll to other pages with more icons. I believe that each profile on the Oregon can be customized to show only icons you want. I doubt Wherigo will be abandoned. StaticTank

The simple fact is that Groundspeak has no interest in helping you keep a Large offline database. I can load enough caches to keep me busy for a week on a 900-mile trip with the services available to me (probably longer). I believe the system we have in place is just fine the way it is. There is no reason to have bigger queries or more of them. This is coming from someone who keeps pretty close to 2000 caches in my GPSr and would have more if I could. I have to update them based on where I am going, but that isn't a problem. I want the most up-to-date caches at all times. Any offline database would go "stale" quickly. We all have access to a massive database of caches. It is called www.geocaching.com. StaticTank

Geocaching Banned in North Dakota State Wildlife Management Areas
StaticTank replied to CollinsStevenA's topic in Midwest
As was said before the same thing happened in South Dakota. I am assuming that it is the land used for hunting and fishing. If it is the same as SD the land is paid for by hunting liscenses, guns, and ammo. It is not paid for by taxpayers. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense but in three months most of you won't miss them. I don't. StaticTank -
I created one in Google Earth and that worked. Thanks. StaticTank

I experienced a strange problem today. While building a Route for vacation I created one with 3 miles on either side of the route. This brought me 128 caches. I then increased that number to 5 miles on either side and that gets me 93 caches...I don't understand. Am I doing something wrong? That is the only thing I am changing. StaticTank

They are TEMPORARY I don't believe you should log TEMP caches. They are for the event only and if used right are generally for awards or other such things.

I know there is a pretty big event in the Black Hills in June! I am one of the people who helps plan and execute most of our local events (in Sioux Fall). We have events all of the time. As a matter of fact we have them on the second Saturday of every month. If you haven't already joined please look us up at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eastern_sd_geocaching/ Most of the Sioux Falls people have joined that group. I am sure you will find many new friends in the coming months. I am sure you will see my name or one of my caches in no time at all! StaticTank

GPS Accuracy Could Start Dropping in 2010
StaticTank replied to TheAlabamaRambler's topic in General geocaching topics
The satellites don't dish out directions they only tell you where you are. It is up the receiver to dish out directions. Why do news outlets love disaster? This will not happen. Think of all the jobs that GPS provides. Every company that makes receivers employs people. That is a lot of jobs. Plus the government and various agencies rely on the system too much it will not fail... StaticTank -
Logging Archived or Disabled Caches
StaticTank replied to n2life's topic in General geocaching topics
If a person finds the cache and is able to sign the log I have no problem with it. I have seem many occasions where someone had an old pocket query or went to find it right after it was disabled or archived and was able to located the cache. If you really don't want them to go look for it you would want to remove it. Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much about it. StaticTank -
New GPS Sattallites being launched?
StaticTank replied to rockey_f_squirrell's topic in General geocaching topics
I agree, more than half of the posts have nothing to do with the topic.
