  1. You might have another zillion other questions. Try youtube and also the simple to understand video's from http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-etrex-10.html#videos You are aware that your model doesn't have an Sd slot??
  2. Unless you have a faulty (gps chip) phone, it's not the Galaxy, the newer Galaxy's (after 2 and up) are very usable for geocaching. Standing still might make the gps jumpy, that's with all gps'es, sometimes you don't see this because some models 'glue' the cursor on the screen softwarewise. The receiver will have a minimum error of about 7 feet, as will the hider, therefore an error of about 15 feet is not rare.
  3. So you buy some porches and have to learn how to drive. Goto geocaching.com an see the neebie site. Else some youtubes, but still you have to learn how it all works together, otherwise you will be stranded sooner or later, kids lose interest fast if something doesn't work. Gpscity has some video's (normal Oregon will do also) http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=garmin+oregon+600
  4. It will detect missing maps or overlapping maptiles and wrong gpx files and most of the time tells you what's wrong with the gps.
  5. Double post, don't know why it happened.
  6. Goto http://www.javawa.nl/jdm_en.html Load JDM progeram and run it, it will show you what's wrong or missing.
  7. There where/are several issues with this model. http://garminoregon6xx.wikispaces.com/Common+Issues http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=306048
  8. There is no reason whatsoever to pay that price, or somebody has something special with that model, looks to me somebody is just raising the price. It went for $159.16 BTW
  9. The Garmin Usb until the Montana is slow anyway, better take out the Sd and write the Map straight on the Sd anyway. The model the Op was referring to has a Serial AFAIK and that's something you don't want. Anyway the Op never came back, maybe he made a totally different choice.
  10. Just to unconfuse: Geotagging is giving the photo a geolocation coordinate. This is done by making a photo and having a device registering the geolocation either in camera ** or post processing after a trip. The device for the geolocation can be a Gps or a so called tracker, this unit should record a so called track. Track time + time stamp of the photo should be the same. Therefore set your camera on the time of the geotracking device not other way around. There are many programs that will put the geolocation in the picture ( if the camera didn't do so) If you don't have the Monterra already, you better wait until that model is stable. ** some Garmin models come with a camera.
  11. Nothing wrong with this model but you should not pay more then about $30. The Garmin models from today are called 'old' after about 3 years. This is an old model and I'm not sure if it has and can read from Sd, which is extreme important because today's maps are huge (2 - 3 GB) one map. I'm not even sure if it can handle today's data at all, also be aware it might have an serial interface not usb. Buy it only if they provide the cable with it. IF it has a geocaching function, they might mean you can manually input a waypoint and navigate to it, I really doubt you can use it as today's modern Gps'es. Once again I'm not completely sure, but be aware.
  12. I'm afraid your unit is fried (boiling hot sd holder ) Buy local a new one, or let somebody sent one via UPS.
  13. Goto http://www.javawa.nl/jdm_en.html and download the JDM After you start the program click meer over dit toestel (more about this unit) or meer over de Sd kaart (more about the SD), then select gpx on the bottom is the amount of waypoints'routes'tracks shown
  14. Gorilla glass or not, if you drop or bump it the "right' way it breaks just as easy. Cover your Garmin Gps with a good screen protector, it will be better then gorilla.
  15. Whatever you buy, do not buy a model without a Micro Sd slot. So a Etrex 20 will do fine. For outdoor buy an outdoor model, be aware the dedicated outdoor gps models functions will look 2005 when you are used to todays apps. (smartphone) But overall, Garmin works better then a smartphone. Go to gpscity.com to find your model and look at the video's, to have an impression and how the screen looks like.
  16. See this site for (solved) issues http://garminmonterra.wikispaces.com/Common+Issues
  17. When it's use is mainly on a motorbike check also the Zumo. The Montana, usable for on and off the road, I mentioned before has a special bike holder. It also has a Nuvi mode and all kind of make yourself programmable profiles. The more expensive models have a steep learning curve, it's not a buy and go like a car satnav.
  18. Only the last about 2 years some outdoor Gps'es and car satnav work also with GLONASS as an addition, but most of the time it doesn't really add something, not in Europe not in Africa or anywhere else. A must is an Sd card, for the rest you actually have to see the screens in bright light and the feel of a touch or button. Etrex will do as well as Garmin 62 or 64, Oregon or Montana. The 3axes compass IN the Gps is needed when you geocache, barometer not so very important.
  19. Nothing secret here, it just doesn't work like the normal BT gadgets do, therefore there might not be an interaction as some people expect from this Garmin BT. If it doesn't do a basic function like sending caches from a smartphone, I wonder what is it made for??
  20. That's what I'm trying to warn you from, on this moment not, Garmin seems to have it's own kind of BT protocol people say.
  21. The OP wrote "I was planning to buy the Garmin 64s this weekend. Been waiting for the bluetooth feature on a geocaching type GPSR for a long time. " Many people want a Gps model with BT, because they want to tether with their phone, until now this seems not possible even if the model has BT.
  22. If you buy it for the Bluetooth be SURE it works, because on other models it doesn't.
  23. This is the normal way how Garmin handles these problems. The units will be as new and will be given with a Garmin warranty. Basically you will have a new unit for that price.
