  1. Hey, I'm OK with nocturnal caching. And when I read what the game was about - way cool. But reasonable use of a cache, please. Hit the cache, leave the cache. That's the norm right? Lurking and coming with an entourage (spelling - ??) isn't norm caching. I mean, hey, is this a s l o w e r moving potato caching machine with the need to have 7 people hit the cache within 20 minutes? Play your game and have FUN, play fair and have more fun. If this is a restart per se, could I join the game or would no one have me? -- CT --- PS All this intrigue, deceit, camoflaging ---- almost like playing Survivor minus Johnny Fairplay's dead grandma.

However, it's the cache owner's prerogative to delete or not to delete a log. The approver states that the owner "was going to delete this one as well". If that's true, why didn't you simply let him?

This is a clear case of the approver overstepping their authority

In this particular instance it sounds that the cacher making the online log find had posted his find once previous and the owner of the cache had deleted it once before. When the cacher logged again, the cache owner sought the help of an admin to delete and advise the logging cacher to not post the find again.

I have posted one find where I met the criteria of a cache but because I did not have the printout or my PDA on the cache hunt with me, I couldn't jump through a 'proving' factor. However, I did have my digital camera and enough 'proving' photos to show that I had gone the distance on the cache. I contacted the cache owner with my 'proof' and he accepted it as a postable find. Those darn 'virtuals'.

  3. I'm thinking that if subscribers/cachers/commoners on geocaching.com (subscribers/cachers) uses a picture I upload to geocaching.com in a re-post via forum or other posting is inherently violating terms and conditions.

Even though threads like 'photoshop fun aug 17' is just that, I don't want to wait for distasteful renditions to appear before I speak up.

'Giving' all those situations that geocaching.com could make use of an originally submitted photo, I don't feel like extending those same 'permissions' to all users of the site. And according to the 'terms and conditions', I'm not.

    That's my '$30' subscriber opinion.

  4. One could always ::link:: to their geocaching pictures via their own private server if they wish to share pictures.

As for repercussions to other subscribers/cachers that repost pictures belonging to others -- altered or not -- I'm thinking the altered/reposted pictures and associated posts will meet a certain grim fate.

  5. m&myellow.gif I am pleased to say on behalf of my $75 hospital co-pay, that I have not had ANY head injuries this Summer. And I wasn't caching when I romanced that Black Widow near Jaekel Cache. (I have a history of hitting my head on bottoms of massive tree limbs, while entering vehicles during 7-cache trip -- and while closing my own garage door.) I have not, however, suffered ANY injuries from tripping over the 4 cache boxes on my front porch.

  6. I have a TB that is back in Canada thats destination is Ohio [Lost My Marbles TB]. Also, I have a travelbug that is in Ohio on it's way to CT. Hmmm. Oh, and then there's the one in CA that is destined for NY (and it has been to NY but geographically impaired cacher brought it to the West Coast). So, if you can make it to Canada to get my TB for WCPN in Cleveland... well, best of luck to you! - CT

  7. Attended the meeting at the Kent Library and I appreciated the totally family friendly atmosphere of the public meeting place. Rotating the meeting locations makes it very fair for all to find a niche and place to attend (or travel to ...) Meeting on my front porch is probably not an option to make it totally convenient! -CT

  8. Those who can do, or otherwise;

    Those who cannot, forum.

Sorry, but to each his own. If geocaching dot com thought 'virtuals' were a 'waste' then Admins wouldn't be approving them then. I, too, agree to each his own. Seek and ye shall find .... whether a physical walk or in your mind.

    Peace.

  9. Changing to Members Only is a great tactic for now. We need to

proactively as a group / club meet with OUR state park officials regarding

cache placement, maintenance and possible guidelines specifically for state

park placements. With our incredible 'membership', we're certain to see

positive things happening in the sport we live - Geocaching.com.

We have 4 caches (now 3 ... our NopiSoki Saltwater was pulled) planted at state parks and routinely check on and maintain these caches.

  11. Some inquiring minds have .. inquired .. about the container I have been using for my "Just Log It!" series here in Washington State. The container hails from REI. It is a micro-cannister in their novelty key chain section. They retail for $2.95. I also make use of the water resilient, flexible paper by National Geographic. Appropriately named "Adventure Paper", one can get 7 log scrolls off of an 8.5 x 11 sheet, which makes the log scrolls quite economic. What to look for next...?? Look out Oregon... my "Just Doo It!"'s will be in place this summer.

Reasoning behind log-it only caches: Some parks, areas or landmarks necessitate the extremely small containers. It brings folks, geocachers, to a location that is more landmarky vs. trail adventure. The "Just Log It!" series take you to original log cabins or cabin structures from the early 1900's.

VDS, local to 98003, planted a micro/log it cache perfectly within a fragile environment. The goal of getting someone to a neat, hidden or 'forgotten' area right out your back door is still realized without invading that fragile, natural spot with a traditional cache box.

  13. WSMF - Thank you for the clickable links to Dutch Oven this-n-that! I'm thinking that between the MisGuided Ones, WSMF, my Scoutmaster and further inspired to keep ourselves busy so that we don't have so much time on our hands to construct mp3s of such VIGOR... icon_razz.gif, it will happen. Any suggestions for a timeline? Would early September, beyond the Holiday weekend, work? Kind of a Fall sort of activity don't you all think? -CT

  15. Dearest Uplink: Thank you so much for the work you are doing to keep the racers and the public up-to-date! You are wonderful! (Maybe CO will get a flat tire and your CA will pull off a victory!) Remember, free reasonably priced piece of geo-gear to both the starter of the race and the person that snail mails it back for the win. One car takes all! -CT
