  1. QUIT GEOCACHING! There Someone wants you to stop geocaching. So, have you archived your caches and terminated your membership yet? ... .... .... .... .... .... *waiting* Well that's mature. You know what I mean. Geocaching is meant to be fun and harmless. If it bothers someone, we'll go elsewhere. Why mock them if they really don't want us there? If someone played loud music in the street near your yard where you are trying to relax, and you were annoyed by it to the extent you ask them to please turn it off or at least turn the volume down, wouldn't you be happy if they did? I mean, they don't have to, but you're bothered by it, so if they're decent people, they'll listen to you. We geocachers should be decent people, not the kind that gets angry when someone is bothered by us. If I were playing catch in that park and someone asked me to "go play catch somewhere else, you are bothering me," I would laugh and tell them to get bent...
  2. Its a sign telling you "Such and such lake." Its owned by the state, at a public access site.
  3. I found a great location for a cache in a sign that I can place in the inside corner, so I painted the cache and set up everything to be velcro. Unfortunately the inside of the sign isn't accepting the velcro very well and the cache will not stick. I thought about stapling the velcro on there, but I think that might be pushing the do not deface too much. (It would be inside and not affect the sign in any way though.) Anyone have any idea how I can get this to "stick" up there? If I didn't love this location so much I think I would just find a new place for it... Thanks for any suggestions! JR
  4. I must be in the rare few that had an absolutely horrible experience with them. First lady I talked to for replacing my Colorado gave me a brush off. She told me she would have to have a reciept faxed to her showing it was purchased in the last year... (Yeah, it hasnt been out that long.) Second guy I talked to was the most apathetic person in the world. You could tell he hated his job and hated that he was talking to me even more. I hung up on both of them and haven't bothered to call them back.
  5. If you manged to hard reset it then sometimes it can take a long while for it to reaquire. Try sitting it next to a window for 30 minutes (powered on) and see what happens. JR
  6. I love cemetary caching at night but my caching partner and I use the rule that if it is too near public and at night we pass. If its rural enough they are a ton of fun! We usually try to pick nights when the moon is brightly out too, thus limiting the flashlights and adding to the fun! I guess the whole point is to be respectful and use your head. If we even have an idea it might bother someone that we are out there we don't go.
  7. REI isn't limited to 30 days... send it back, they will even switch it out to a different model if you want.
  8. Yeah blood is a bit much. I always carry multiple ultra fine tip permant markers (which work great on wet logs too). Unfortunately my caching partner tends to steal them from me... So far we have been lucky and I always remember to bring a spare. We are pretty resourceful though, Im sure there would be something we could rig to sign a log. Blood.... well... thats just gross.
  9. I love my colorado and wouldnt trade it for the world. I've had a few glitches but having paperless caching all in one unit has been wonderful!

  11. Yup, willdo! I left the file on my work computer, so will edit it tomorrow morning and repost. New version is uploaded; it's back on the original post. Thanks!!
  12. I saw a couple great places for some magnetic key holders...
  13. A shamrock with 3 leaves? Or a 4-leaf clover? That 3 leaf looks great, any chance you could rotate it vertical?
  14. I really want to get a skull and cross bones with a shamrock for the eye patch. Any ideas? JR
  15. So I fixed up a nice new cache with a fresh log and placed it there. I sent an email to the owner (in looking at the past caches they own they have let them all get archived) in hopes I can take it over. Thanks for the advice, I just hope things work out! JR
  16. There is a local cacher that isn't active anymore. In fact its been a 5 months since this person has even logged on and it appears they are letting all thier caches "go." One of these happens to be my favorite and I would like to see it stay but it has definately been muggled. I had thought to just replace it myself and just keep an eye on it since I believe the person has to be willing to respond to my request to adopt it. What is the common thought on this? Any suggestions?
  17. I love it, it has had a few glitches here and there but paperless>minor glitches hands down.
  18. Thanks for all the advice! I think I will be trying the silicone caulk since I cannot seem to find a local store that sells marine goop.
  19. Ok, so I started making some caches for putting around the area and I am having the hardest time finding some glue that will work. I purchased some high power magnets and plan on making a few magnetic caches. In the order I also got some lower power ones I put on a pill box for a cool little magnetic cache I put out. First I will start with the high power ones. I have gone from super glue to 2800psi epoxy and I cannot get them to stay on the lock and lock I have tried to attach them to. I have sanded the area I wanted to attach to make it a little more rough so the glue will stick better, but to no avail... Then I had the pill box all set...the super glue seemed to be holding these smaller magnets just fine but after checking my cache last night I had to replace it since 3 of the 5 magnets pulled off. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! JR
  20. After lots of experimenting with painting caches I found that if you put a primer on it (I went to a local "gaming" store, they sell paint for the minitures) and paint it the color you want, then spray it with a flat lacquer (not the shiney stuff) it works wonders. Never had an issue with paint not sticking.
  21. I have to say this would definately get moved to the top of my list of caches to do. I love people who try to intimidate others, especially when you have a camcorder...
  22. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_drop Might give you an idea of what you're looking for...
  23. I should add that Ziggy is a Colorado 400t. (Kinda adds to the not working quite right...)
