  1. Probly not a good idea to use camo that could be confused for garbage. For one we would want the parks to get mad that we are littering, so "hiding them among the enemy" probly isn't a good idea. Preferably if you find pop cans while you're out, pick'em up. Second since it looks like a pop can it may get picked up an tossed in the trash. I'd suggest making ghillie suit. It's basically a net with leaves, grass, and/or sticks (or whatever is the native vegitation) attached. Then you just nest it up in some leave or sticks. That's just one way to do it. You could carve out a log and attach it to the bottom.
  2. Apparently something is wrong with my forum login on the MNGCA webiste. My user ID should be mcrow, but I can't login. It may be related to the change of user name from cachecrasher to mcrow. Can someone fix my account? Thanks. Mike

    GenCon 2007

I was there last year working for a gaming company. Won't be there this year, can't afford it with the baby on its way. Gencon is a blast though and if I could mix in some caching as well that would be even better.
  4. I haven't had any problems yet, but I keep warning my wife that someday I'm going to pciked up by the cops because someone thinks I'm hiding drugs in the park.
  5. Well, after getting my GPSr last week and playing with it for a while I decided to go after some Caches this weekend. Managed to snag the South Park Cache. Talk about cleverly hidden! I knew it was right in front of my but couldn't find it, then came across it by chance. Then i followed that up with four DNFs: Hutch Dam , Mcloed CountyVeteran's memoraial Park , Westside Park, and War Veteran's Memeorial Park . I'm pretty sure the Westside park Cache was muggled, I found a spot that looked like it once held something but it was empty. I have some ideas to go back an check on a the the other three. All of them are micros, I think. Then lastnight I found the Swan Lake Cache, this one was pretty easy. Took about 10 mins to find it and I left a lanyard and two fuzzy jigs since there is fishing near by. Took nothing and cammo'd it a little better than I found it. I can now say that I'm hooked. I'll be out again tonight! As an added bonus now my wife wants to come! All in all a great weekend of caching.
  6. As another new Goecacher, I have found micros to be much, much more difficult than larger containers. So far I'm 1 for 5 for micros (though one of those I'm pretty sure got muggled) and 1 for 1 on regular containers. I know that the three of the four I couldn't find were right in front of me, so I figured I'd goo look for some others and come back to them in a month or two with a fresh outlook on them. So far I'm nor frustrated, while I couldn't find four of the six I looked for I'm very proud of the two I did find. Especially the first one since it was an incredibley well camo'd micro. Don't get discouraged, if you don't find one go onto the next one and repeat until you find your first.
  7. Magellans typically do better in the trees than Garmins from what I understand. From my personal experience, the Explorist 400 works quite well in the cover.
  8. Well, sounds great but my Explorist 400 works great right now. Maybe in a year or two I'll be in the market for one of these.
  9. yeah, if you look around you can get a good deal. I got a 400 ultimate package deal for $90 at Costco. It was an open box, but not used or damaged.
  10. Keep and eye out for and Explorist 400. I have one and love it. Sometimes you can find one @ ~$125-150. Heartland has them for $119 The 400 is my first GPS and it more features than any other GPS for the price, they generally sell for close to $180-200.
  11. I think Magellan discontinued this model, so you may want to check with them to see if they'll still be honoring the warranty. I have heard that they don't honor waranties for discontinued models.
  12. You could look for an Explortist 400. Lots of nice features, including mapping, USB cable, and other cool stuff. If you go to Costco you can find the Explorist 400 Ultimate package deal for less than $200 and comes with some software and other goodies. I like mine so far.
  13. new GCer from Hutchinson MN, here. Now, to just get the wife to do it.
  14. I have barely learned to use my first GPS that i picked up yesterday, but as a guess I'd say that it has recalculate the route because your position keeps changing.
  15. I just picked one up cheap for my fist GPS unit. It seems to have a lot of good features for the price. I have been out toying with it, but no caching yet and it seem pretty good. Just seeing what others experices were with this one.
  16. I got it at Costco. It was an open box but everything was there and it looked like it hadn't been handled much. They said I could return it and get my money back if it doesn't work properly. So far it seems to work great.
  17. well, i managed to to snag an explorist 400 ultimate value pack for $90. it seems like it should make a good first gps.
  18. I just missed the accident. If I hadn't been working late lastnight I'd have been tangled up in that mess.
  19. Ok, the local news ran a story on Geocaching not long ago and I thought it looked fun, but I don't have a GPS. I was talking with my neighbor and he said he had a Megellan Blazer 12 GPS, it's older, he said he bought i back in 2000. It works fine and he is asking $30 for it. Is it worth it? I'm just looking for a basic unit to get the idea of how to use a GPS and don't want to spend much money just to give a new hobby a try. If I like it, I'll upgrade to a nicer unit later. So will this thing be good enough to find a cache with? Thanks. Mike
