  1. Thank you for that info. I tried it and it's exactly what I was looking for.
  2. I liked when you could just click on the map and everything would be there by default. No need to filter. But now to get everything to show on the map you have to filter what items you want to show on the map. Seems backward to me.
  3. No, I love that feature with the 66s. I just don't like the wording. That's why I edit them when I get home. The automatic log feature takes all guess work out of which caches I found and where etc.
  4. Since there is no method of writing drafts from the GPSr, I assume you mean drafts from the "App". I don't use the Geocaching app so I rely on my GPSMap 66s for automatically sending out the logs. It takes away the guess work of which caches were found. But I still like to edit them later on the computer. I know I can edit the "automatic log" from the GPSr but it takes too much time and effort. I wish there were options for other choices in automatic logging on the GPSr. For example: instead of "Submitted by Garmin Live Geocaching", it could have "Thanks for hiding the cache" or "Great hide, excellent cache" etc. Just a thought...
  5. As stated you can edit the default log from the field but it is kind of cumbersome from the GPSr. I usually just let the default log stand until I get home and then edit them all from my computer.
  6. The 66s can also log on the spot. Very convenient if making a lot of finds. No need to remember which ones to log. The only issue is the automated Garmin log which shows up on logs after registering a find: "submitted via garmin live geocaching". Sometimes logs require just a little bit more description of what you experienced. So I prefer editing each log on the computer later when at home.
  7. Just wondering...since PQs can include upwards of 1000 geocaches, would a download of this size be possible thru GC Live Download. I thought that using GC Live Download in the field would only allow a limited number of geocaches to be downloaded from a particular area. Any clarification would be appreciated.
  8. Also, regarding transferring GPX files to the unit, I find using Pocket Queries easy and fast. Just plug the GPS into your computer and use "mass storage". You'll see the all the folders and files from your unit on the screen. Then unzip the PQ in "downloads" and drag the file over to your Garmin "sd card" or internal storage. Works great for me.
  9. I've had the 66s for almost a year now and I find it awesome. It has so many great features including being able to download "geocaches" to the unit from anywhere using GC Live Download. I've had occasion to use this feature a couple of times and it worked great. Bluetooth is necessary as it communicates with your phone. You can access it from the Main Menu under "Geocaching" and then "Menu" to see "GC Live Download". Premium members can download more caches using this method than basic members but there is a limit.
  10. Thanks to everyone for the input here. I still find it hard to understand though how a GPSr using "GPS + Galileo" for example, and a GPSr using only "GPS" wouldn't show 2 different sets of coordinates. In my tests, I've noticed a difference of 10 to 15 metres.
  11. With the Garmin GPSMap66s, there's an option of using different satellite systems ie. GPS, GPS +GLONASS or GALILEO. Since this is a new feature on newer GPS receivers, I was just wondering what others might think of this... If I hide a geocache and mark it using a combination of satellite systems (which is supposed to be more accurate) would the cache coordinates appear "off" for someone looking for it using only GPS satellites? I have noticed that caches appear to be "off" when I'm using both GPS and GLONASS together when looking for caches that were most likely placed using only the one system. Any thoughts...
  12. I've had the 66s for about 5 months. I like the new Wifi and Bluetooth features. Also the glove friendly buttons are a plus. Live tracking is a great feature that I use regularly. You can go hiking alone and family members or anyone you choose can view your track in real time. This feature works in conjunction with Garmin Connect through your phone's bluetooth. Won't work in "expedition mode" though. I use lithium batteries and find them pretty good but I have noticed that the batteries will show about half power or less after 5 or 6 hours of use. Then when I turn it on again they're back up to full power. Anyone else notice that?
  13. Thanks for the replies. I now have a better understanding of both formats.
  14. Just curious of what the advantages are in creating "Pocket Queries" as opposed to "Lists". Maybe it's in the filters. Lists can be created immediately; whereas pocket queries have to be submitted. I've used both and I can't see where the advantage is.
  15. Just a follow up to your follow up. I purchased a cable (usb to serial) at The Source for $29 bucks. The driver software that came with the cable wouldn't work in the Vista OS but they had a download fix available for Vista on their website. This worked fine. I updated my unit to the lastest version of the software and now everything is working fine. No more vertical lines and no more crashes. (I hope) Good luck.

  17. I've had the same problem regarding new computer without a serial port. If you can't find a computer that will accept your cable, you can purchase an adapter cable (USB to SERIAL cable) available at most computer shops. You will then be able to update the GPS with the new computer.
  18. Well, I'm sold on Raytech! I had a problem with 60CX not "locating satellites, so I had to send it for repair. I sent it to them on Sept. 17th and the replacement was put in the mail today the 24th..... 1 week....not bad. I'm impressed with speed in responding to my emails and also the quick turnaround. Anyway, good job Raytech!
  19. Have you completed the "geocache setup" on your 60CX? That setup would normally created the right icons where it shows the closed chest for unfound caches and "open chest" for found caches. Just a thought.....
  20. Wow. you're right. Thanks for that. I also added my support to adding "Canadian benchmarks" to GC.com but it appears, from all the posts, that may not happen. Shame.
  21. Does anyone know where to get a list of Canadian Geodetic benchmarks? When you search for benchmarks on the Geocaching.com site, it doesn't give any results. Apparently, it's only for US benchmarks. Thanks for any info here.
  22. Yes you can only download one page at a time. I don't use MapSource enough to know if you can combine multiple files together. Thanks for that. I tried combining the files from within Mapsource and also in Windows Explorer but no go. I'll just have to give each file and unique name so I can easily recognize what they're for. Not a big problem. I use EasyGPS with the .loc files... I have found that I can upload multiple .loc files ( different pages) to GPS and it appends (combines) all the locations to existing files in GPS.... I can then download the "appended" (combined) files from GPS to EasyGPS for any editing purposes.... I use a Magellan GPS, what every unit you use may or may not be able to do this... Its a bit awkward but it works.... Dale Thanks ........I'll try that.

  24. I am trying to download geocache waypoints from the website but it only allows me to down one page at a time. I'm using Mapsource Topo Canada and I have no problem getting one page but when I go to another page and start clicking the little boxes, the check marks for the first page are removed. Is that because I have to be a Premium member to download more than one page at a time or is there a way around this?
