Magellan 2200T-NA free Crossover Upgrade offer
sanramonhunter replied to Ezeechair's topic in GPS technology and devices
Thanks for the info. Do you know if the software can be purchased elsewhere or only through magellan? -
Your price is high. I just listed my 60csx with power adapter, bike mount, City Navigator, and screenshield for $350 and didn't have many bites here. Considering you can get New 60csx for $310, and topo for $80, power adaptors are $20. So your basically throwing in a car mount and saving someone tax. Not a horrible price, but not a steal either. Especially since mine with more expensive software and a screenshield didn't get too many bites at $350.

Both the DeLorme PN-20 and the Bushnell can do this. Here's a link for the bushnell http://www.bushnell.com/gps/gps_features_s...n=General%20Use -
garmin colorado 300 vs 400
sanramonhunter replied to nollscoffen's topic in GPS technology and devices
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the 300 offers a "worldwide" basemap, which should include U.S. and Europe. I think the 400 only offers a U.S. road basemap, again could be wrong, but I think I read that somewhere. The hardware is exactly the same with the caveat that the 400 has more internal memory so as to load the topo on. If I was in your shoes I would buy the 300. Although if you had the cash to throw around you could get the 400 and erase the topo then you'd have alot of internal memory free. Then again kind of a waste since you get an SD slot with the unit. -

That's what they told me also. I just hope you actually get the unit and they don't cancel the order on you. I've had that happen to me before. The price was like $50 less than it should have been and I got an email saying computer error blah blah this blah blah that and we are canceling your order. So I'll be crossing my fingers for you. i hope they don't cancel it, if they do i suppose i will just get a different used one off ebay.. this will be my first unit. i'll keep you updated on the status of the order Any status yet? -
explorist closeout at walmart
sanramonhunter replied to capricesquad's topic in GPS technology and devices
I was just in Park City, UT this weekend to do some skiing. My friend needed a new pair of boot so we went to the Sports Authority in town. While he was trying on his boots I was browsing around and found thier GPS section. They had the explorist 100 on clearance for $109, I thought that's not clearance that's not even a good price. Then I looked at another explorist, the 210 I think. Again $109. They also had the explorist 300 for $109 and they had one triton 300 for $109. Don't quite get the pricing but apparently all magellans cost $109 at the sports authority in Park City. -
Explorist 400 broken 4 sale
sanramonhunter replied to yellowH2odog's topic in GPS technology and devices
I'm getting a refurbed 500 sent to me and they do want the old unit. If I don't send the old unit back they charge my CC $170. I could understand where confusion would come in though. I had to have the magellan rep in India repeat just about every third sentence. -
Costco.com has the explorist 500le which is color and came out between the meridians and the tritons. They are $120 plus tax and shipping. Don't know if your a costco member, but you might check that out. Also have to concur with cacheoholic, once you get used to a nice color screen the monochromes are really annoying.

400T on AMEX rewards.
sanramonhunter replied to sanramonhunter's topic in GPS technology and devices
Doesn't the airline system work on the same dollar for points system? So your buying $500 worth of tickets for $500. I haven't seen too many 400T's for $480 shipped. -

Colorado Hardware Changes?
sanramonhunter replied to sanramonhunter's topic in GPS technology and devices
Why not use the GPS you have now and wait for the bugs to be worked out, In some cases the prices of new items comes down afer a few months. That's what I originally intended to do. Then I got an Amex Rewards brochure. So I went online and there I saw the 400T. 96,000 points, which works out to $480 shipped, since I cold use 100,000 points to get $500 cash instead. The problem with the AMEX rewards system is that some stuff comes and goes, so in 3 or so months it might not be there. -
Just saw the 400T on the AMEX rewards page for 96,000 points. In the points scheme that works out to $480 including shipping and taxes. I base this on the fact that you can get $100 cash for 20,000 points. I was going to wait a few months, but this really has me tempted. So if you have some AMEX points go check it out.

I'm on the fence about getting the 400T. I am fine with them working out the bugs with the software, I'm fairly confident that will be worked out in the next few months. My concern is if the Hardware itself will change considerably. From reading the forums so far I guess the 400 has had one change, less memory. Just wondering if I wait a while longer if they will make improvements to the actual hardware over the next 6 months. I wasn't into this stuff when the 60csx released, did any big hardware changes happen with that? Thanks.

Explorist 500LE Li-Ion Battery
sanramonhunter replied to sanramonhunter's topic in GPS technology and devices
Can you recommend one that will fit the correct way? Or is the magellan oem one the only battery that fits the unit correctly? -

After reading some of the threads about the Li-Ion battery I think I have the correct one http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorola-OEM-Extended-...p3285.c57.l1288 Does this battery fit perfectly, or is there a better battery out there? Don't mind spending more $ if the battery fits/works better, but if there really isn't a difference $5.94 seems like a good price. Thanks.

Anybody looking to get rid of their used gps?
sanramonhunter replied to Little Hap's topic in GPS technology and devices
Your going to be hard pressed to get a High sensitivity GPS with data cable for $70 even used. The cheapest High sensetivity your going to find new is the garmin etrexH for about $85 w/o cable +tax. Cable going to run another $10 at least. To be realistic your going to either need to raise your budget or get a non High sensitity unit. You can get a regular etrex + cable for $70, but with some patience and searching you could probably find a garmin legend with cable for $75 or so. -
Magellan Mapsource questions
sanramonhunter replied to sanramonhunter's topic in GPS technology and devices
Is there such a thing as mapsend topo 4.02? I found someone selling 4.02 on ebay and was wondering if he made a typo. The price is right, just wondering if it's 4.2 or not, and if there is such thing as 4.02 would it be ok? Can't find any version history on Magellan's site. -
He's already got City navigator, why would he care about the street data on 2008 topo?
-
No actually even the newest street data is a year old. The 2008 disk came out in late 2007 from data that was probably a couple of months old. I'm sure in the future "real time" street updates will be a possiblility. Garmin will probably put us all on a yearly map "subscription" for $100 and we can update our streets every week if we want. Not that I would want that. I was using City Navigator v7 (came out it 2005 or earlier) until October of 2007and it was doing fine for me.
-
Depends on where you live with City Navigator. If you live in an area where lots of streets are being built then you might want to get the newer maps, if not wait. I would just use what you have until you find you are going to areas where the streets aren't on your device. The maps on my Honda Odyssey are 4 years old. every once in a while it will not work because of a new area, but not very often. Look around craigslist and ebay and the forums here for the updates as well. There is a guy on craigslist right now selling the update disk new in shrinkwrap for $40. I have never used topo. but I would think that you could easily go a few years without updating that. The only caveat would be that someone mentioned topo 2008 contains DEM data and 3.02 doesn't, so if you wanted DEM data than you would want 2008. That wouldn't make much difference on your GPSr, but would look different on your PC.

It would be kinda hard to sell anything if nobody is buying.
