Is it odd that I enjoy placing caches like this more than I like caching???!!!!

Yup. The entire area is vacant. For miles and miles and miles... I'm working my way up to this: I haven't quite gotten the balance down yet. One of the 'rules' I live by is: If YOU can get there, so can I. Perhaps not as quickly or easily, but I could do it if I choose to do so. No doubt. But not many cachers are willing to go miles into the forest for the chance at finding three or four caches in a day. Not when you can easily get gobs and gobs of urban light pole caches. I doubt two or three of these caches will found more that once every two or three years. But that's the way I want it. Now I just gotta sit down and get them written up and submitted. Maybe I'll save that for tomorrow.

My Geoload for today: That's five ammo boxes (two in the bag, three on top) on the back of a dual sport motorcycle headed out into the world. In case you are wondering, yes, they will be easy to find, no you probably wont be able to get to where they are hidden. More to come.

Hmm, I wonder if there is a macro for that I know it can log your finds online automatically from cachemate. GeoScout is a bit more expensive, but it will log your finds online for you. It also includes maps and automatically downloads caches and travel bug info from the web. The new version is MUCH faster than v1 too. It's really an all-in-one solution for paperless caching.

I find a cammo pattern I like on the net, print the pattern on regular paper, cut it out with an exacto knife, and spray away: If anyone is interested in a tutorial I can whip one up.

I'm also a Geoscout user. I love this program, but it seems to be blacklisted or something by Groundspeak. Seems like it gets lots less attention than it disserves.

My favorite caches are places that I can ride to! I have even placed several caches in places I have explored. The best way to locate caches in these areas it to look at the caching map. Drag the map into the areas where you want to go 4x4 and see what is there. If there are none in your area, then you should place some!

Thanks! I went to flicker and searched for oak leaves. I copied them into Photoshop, turned them into gray scale, and upped the contrast to make them black/white. Then I printed them out in various sizes and cut them out with an exacto knife. I sprayed the paint through the hole in the paper to make the leaves.

The moss sure brakes up the outline, but I always wonder how long it will stay attached in the weather, and with cachers handling it. In the end, I don’t really care about making the can hard to spot. It's really more a pride in your cache thing. I just want people to find something nice. I also like getting rid of the military markings and labeling it "GEOCACHE" to reduce the chance of getting a bill from the bomb team!

Anyone up for a challenge: Hang Glider Hang-out - GC1BD2C I hid this quite some time ago and it's still looking for a FTF! When I placed the cache I knew this would only get one visit every year or two, but I am surprised nobody has gone for the FTF yet. If anyone does try for this cache, please be carefull. It gets steap.

I started Geocashing with my Forerunner 305. It has the SiRFstarIII high-sensitivity GPS receiver, so it works as well as most other GPS. I only wish I could add maps. But with the heart rate monitor, you can always look back to see which cashes were the most exciting to find!

Is typical to have a 15 to 20 second delay between your GPS and iPaq? My older Pharos iGPS-360 / iGPS BT unit had no delay at all. But my newer iTrek M7 has about 15-20 second delay before registering movement on my iPaq. What is a typical delay?

I’m hoping someone can help me with lag I’m experiencing with my new iTrek M7. I purchased this as an upgrade from a Pharos iGPS BT SiRF StarIIe/LP. After charging the M7 it connected to my iPaq rx3115 with no trouble. But I noticed a terrible lag of about 15 to 20 seconds when I move. By lag, I mean that if I start walking after standing still, the iPaq takes about 20 seconds to begin showing my movement. The older Pharos iGPS BT was very quick to show any movement. I went out outside and compared the two, and found the Pharos iGPS BT had about a 1 to 2 second delay in showing a 180 degree turn. The newer iTrek M7 took about 20 seconds to show the same turn. I have adjusted the iTrek M7 to refresh from 1 to 5 Hz, but nothing seems to change. Anyone have any idea why I’m seeing such a delay with the iTrek M7?

I have been running Vista 64 Ultimate for about 2 years now. You can try a couple things right off. When you install the drivers be sure you right click and "Run as Administrator". You can also right click and choose "Properties" and go to the "Compatibility" tab. There you can choose to run a program with compatibility for several previous operating systems. Neither of these may work, because it is oriented to programs, and it sounds like you are having a driver problem. I was having several problems with some older software I needed to use so I purchased a cheep second hard drive and setup a dual boot for Windows XP. You leave the current drive as it is, and install XP on the new drive. Then you setup the Vista boot manager to let you pick at start up. You can also setup XP on the same disk as Vista, but I have no idea how to do that. Do a search on google/yahoo for "setup Vista XP dual boot" and you will get lots of tutorials. I use Vista 64 about 95% of the time, but it is great to be able to restart into XP and have all my older programs still running. This is a link for installing XP on the same drive you already have Vista on. Another one for installing XP along side Vista on the same drive. Of course I had a retail copy of XP. If you don't, then the dual boot may be a little more costly.

I'm looking for a blue tooth GPS to pair with my iPaq. The proprietary battery on the older unit I am using now is no good and a replacement Lipo battery is about 1/3 the cost of a new unit! I was looking at several on this web page ("Bluetooth GPS" section of semsons.com), but I'm not sure which one to pick! Any input? Currently I'm using a Pharos iGPS BT. I don't know. maybe that its a really good one?

I got this to save money driving to and from work, but now I can't think of any other way I'd rather cache!

I purchased Geoscout when I started caching because it is an all-in-one solution for paperless caching. I like that it will download caches from the web, including hints, logs, maps, and descriptions. But lately my Bluetooth GPS and the iPAQ keep disconnecting randomly. So I have been looking at getting a used 60C of some flavor. My question is, can I use the .gpx file created by Geoscout in a Garmin 60C? Or is the GPX file created by Geoscout non-standard. Please visit the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) web page at http://www.post.ca.gov/. Along the top you will see a tab for training. Take some time and look through the catalog of both voluntary and mandated continual training that officers receive. I have completed my Bachelors degree, just as many others have. Yet I still attend several of the mandated courses you can find on the POST web page. It is a requirement to keep my job, but I enjoy learning new things too. I think that this had been agreed upon several times, over and over and over again. It's amazing to me that people still miss this.
