  1. The fact that you can receive a WAAS signal, does NOT in any way mean that you are receiving valid differentially corrected data. In most cases, the corrections received in most parts of Canada will make the reported position much worse than if you do not use WAAS. The key is your proximity to a ground station. The ground stations broadcast the corrections for their local area. However, those corrections can be received (and incorrectly applied) thousands of kilometers away. Here are the current (WAAS) ionosphere correction ground station locations. http://waas.stanford.edu/tmslive/graphics/screen1.gif The total accumulated corrections from valid differentially corrected WAAS data is 7m. The majority of the errors are ionospheric-delay errors. The balance are clock and orbit. The problem is you will receive ALL the corrections, regardless of where you are. Orbit and clock corrections will be valid everywhere, as they relate to the SV's themselves. The ionospheric-delay errors will NOT be corrected "correctly" if you are outside the correction area. Also, a big factor is how the GPSr interprets the received corrections. Garmin does not apply any correction adjustment for positions outside the correction area as many other manufacturers do. Also, Garmin receivers do not consider non-DGPS signals with ones that are receiving corrections. This will inevitably make your reported position solution worse.
  2. If your Garmin has a click stick, here are two simple ways to do it. Find > Waypoints > Nearest > Menu > Delete All ...OR... Trip Computer > Menu > Reset > Delete All Waypoints > Apply
  3. quote:create a new query, and set the day for the current day. Jamie, Olar... Thanks for the tips and email. I think you have nailed it. It seems that if I delete the query and then recreate it from scratch, I get the query sent right a way. However, if I edit an existing one, it may or may not come, and if so, arrives a day or so late.
  4. quote:have put the coordinates for sloquet accidently , or are they that far in? That's where they are. I set a waypoint right at the entrance last time I was there. Right at the entrance, right next to the new St Agnes Well sign. It is a long dusty road (in the summer). The view along the lake is nothing short of spectacular. Glaciers, icefields, first nations homesteads, beautiful BC. I have a track log I can send you if you have a Garmin. Just let me know.
  5. quote:what days are you telling it to run the query? I have a query already saved. I go in and make a change. The day does not change, it is set to today, Friday. I will probably get it Sunday or Monday.
  6. Ok, I give up. How do I get the pockect query to be emailed to me the same day I edit it. Everyone seems to get it right away. Mine take days, alway have.
  7. Jamie, How did you run a test at 3:49, get the results and compare, and post a message at 4:10? I don't even get my queries for 2 or 3 days after I make a change. Me thinks there is a few more international quirks here that need to be looked at. Looks like international queries move right to the back end of the queue. Olar, can you please post (or email me) a screen capture of ALL your settings. Also, how long did it take you to get the query results emailed to you? (BTW: Jamie, those windows are what you get with a real OS ... OS X)
  8. Jamie, this is what I thought too. But it does not appear to work (at least not for the options I have selected). Below see a screen cap of my Pocket Query settings and a map that is the result of the waypoints returned. BC is definitely selected as is a specified starting coordinate and a radius. The combination of that radius and starting point eliminates the caches on Vancouver Island (as seen in the map). However, it now completely ignores the BC parameter as soon as I use a starting position and radius, and returns the closest caches south of the border. Again, I have nothing against cross border caching. In fact I look forward to the rubber glove inspection at US Customs. If anyone can figure out how to make this work using the options I have used, it would be most appreciated. Pocket Query Settings... Pocket Query Results...
  9. I second this request. As it stands now I cannot get the caches I want at all. I can get all of BC in one shot, BUT it is limited to 500. BC is a big place and I don't care about the caches that are 1000km away and are still in BC! I think the folks in the US don't realize how big BC is. I think we could fit about 18 states in here and still have room left over for Texas. I also don't care about any of the 250 caches on Vancouver Island as it costs a fortune to get there. Unfortunately, there is NO way to avoid them. I can get BC which does not give me the caches I want because it cuts off at 500, OR I do a radius search and get 500 caches where 450 of them are in Washington State.
  10. An Address!! yea right. Skookumchuck is 70km down a logging road in the middle of nowhere. N 49 57.888 W 122 25.924 Fortunately, I spend a lot of time in the middle of nowhere and have had to pleasure of soaking in St. Agnes' Well numerous times. These hot springs are on private property, but the owner lets anyone use the tubs as long as you behave. He does ask for a small donation for upkeep. The tubs are a series of fiberglass septic tank halves with a hose running in right from the hot pool where the spring pops out of the ground. The water in the pool is about 180 F, crystal clear, with just a faint sulphur overtone. BTW: the closest cache is my "The Cairn at Nairn". You will go right by it as you head north from Whistler towards Pemberton on the way to the hot springs. [This message was edited by MrGigabyte on February 07, 2003 at 09:24 AM.]
  11. Here you go.... PD Logo in DXF format ... let me know if this version works for your application.
  12. 1) Set your Navigation screen (or GoTo screen) to display Heading and Bearing. 2) Set your Settings > Heading to Magnetic North. 3) Buy a cheap compass Now, when you are stopped looking for a cache and spinning around, the GPSr will still show you the CORRECT bearing to the cache. Ignore the Direction Pointer which will have no idea of your orientation if you slow down or stop. Dial in that Bearing displayed into your handheld compass, take a sighting where it points, pace off the distance the GoTo page says, find cache, wipe grin off face.
  13. Try this... <img src="http://www.geocaching.com/images/icon_gogeocaching.gif" width="88" height="31" border="0" alt="Lets go geocaching">
  14. IWILLFIND, I have your photos, but need an email address to send them to. I have tried to reach you off list but have not had a reply. As such, I hope you are watching this thread.
  15. No Problem. I got it. I'll grab you a few shots in a day or two, when it stops pouring.

  20. Now that's weird. I swear I did not post this twice
  21. If it is a Canadian Geocoin or Texas Geocoin, go directly to their respective web sites. If you are the owner of the coin, you would have been emailed the activation informations. If the coin is neither of the aforementioned coin types, you will have to try to contact the coin distributor. In any event, with the exception of some very special Travel Bugs which belong to Moun10bike, no coins are tracked, managed or activated through Groundspeak or geocaching.com. If you have questions about coins, please contact the coin distributor and NOT the Groundspeak staff, as this is not their responsibility or burden.

quote:Ummm. MrG, was that for a different thread or did you just decide to go WAY off topic? No, the previous poster (DJM) specifically asked where it was geographically. I just explained where it is. quote:...and you mispelled 'colored'. Again, no I did not. In real English, that is how it is spelled. That is also how it is spelled in Canuckistan. It is only the US version of the English language that there is no "u". Can you spell colour?

It only appears on US maps. It is anything north of the top of the map and is generally just coloured white. For those that listen to Pat Buchanan's rhetoric... [CLick Here] ...Canada is a "whining" country that has been "freeloading" off the U.S. defence budget for decades, outspoken American talk-show host Pat Buchanan said Friday. The latest attack to come from the failed Republican presidential candidate followed his televised comment that Canada is a "Soviet Canuckistan" - a term frequently used by an American Holocaust-denier. Buchanan was responding to the objections Canadian officials made to a U.S. law demanding photos and fingerprints from some Arab-Canadian visitors to the country...
