  2. Put it in the description. Then there's no doubt. After all this is a physical activity that relies on walking. If you can't walk to a cache try another one.
  3. quote:Originally posted by Team Blitz:There is no doubt that a majority of cachers feel that there is a need for a national organisation to represent geocachers, in some form or another. You must all have many other thoughts ..... I dispute this premise (unless you have the data to prove otherwise). As others have suggested the previous discussion is still WAY to fresh in our minds. I suggest leaving it at least until the nettles have dies down before raising it again. quote:Originally posted by Team Blitz: I would like this thread to be a positive one: if you do NOT agree that we need a national association, then this is NOT the place to discuss that: please start a new thread. So if we agree with you we can speak otherwise we should go elsewhere? OK. Bye. <sig line censored!!!>
  4. Jeremy, your exact words were: Originally posted by jeremyp: The data cable is for a) downloading tracks , waypoints and routes from your GPS receiver uploading waypoints, tracks and routes to your GPS c) loading more detailed maps into your GPS. My exact words (including original spelling mistake) were: No - a data cable is for connecting your GPSr to your PC. Nothing more, nothing less (and possibly connecting to a pwer supply in some cases) I would maintain that my original statement is correct. If you had said "The data cable is used WHEN" blah, blah, blah then no argument. The cable is used to connect the two devices together so that the above can happen. I does not CAUSE them to happen it ALLOWS them to happen. Yes, a piece of string can connect a GPSr & PC (or even a housebrick) but I defy anybody to do any downloading with it (unless the whole kit and caboodle get downloaded to the bottom of a convenient river/lake) <sig line censored!!!>

Nothing more, nothing less (and possibly connecting to a pwer supply in some cases) <end pedantic mode> <sig line censored!!!> Surely a cable that connects your GPSr to a power supply is called a "power cable". A data cable is for transmitting data (there's a clue in the name believe it or not). Also, it doesn't have to be a PC on the other end. Excuse me. Have you never seen those clever little cables that connect to a GPSr at one end and have two plugs at the other - one for power and one for data? The clue to their purpose is in the words 'Power' AND 'Data'. I think el10t, even you would agree that a proper Data cable (with or without a power component) will give a better result than a piece of string. I sort of made the assumtion that that was fairly obvious. quote:Originally posted by jeremyp: Also, it doesn't have to be a PC on the other end. Well you were the one to mention PC first quote:Originally posted by jeremyp:Also being pedantic means being unnecessarily precise not unnecessarily wrong as this and previous posts have demonstrated your post was ------- jeremyp The second ten million caches were the worst too. http://www.gagb.org.uk If we're into defining 'pedantic' I like this definition from the Merriam-Webster dictionary: Pedantic: - narrowly, stodgily, and often ostentatiously learned I'm sure you would recognise that <sig line censored!!!>

I can't believe it!! C;mon - youre surely made of sterner stuff Keep your "original" thougts coming. <sig line censored!!!>
  8. What's this - publicity about geocaching, presents it in a good light, clear, concise and non contentious. All this done WITHOUT the aid, permission or approval of GAGB or its mouthpiece (you know who!) What's the world coming to? <sig line censored!!!>
  9. quote:Originally posted by Gunther:None found/None placed keep hunting Wossa Yup
  10. Good old Gunther - another post, another controversy. Much more fun than hunting boxes. <sig line censored!!!>
  11. Jeez! I've always thought I was a bit of a geek for enjoying geocaching. All that technical wizadry just to help me find a box of tat under a hedge. But this discussion takes the biscuit for arch-geekiness. Angels and heads of pins comes to mind. Put your anoraks on boys and go outside and get some fresh air! <sig line censored!!!>
  12. I'm guessing this thread is meant to be taken with a pinch of salt. So, I just had to smile at this clip.
  13. Posted twice - sorry about that. I'm new at this game. Seems you can't delete messages.
