  1. Well I e-mailed Oak Coins and got this reply: The Oakbucks can be collected and used to "buy" geocaching products at any of the events Oakcoins attends in 2008. We are still working on getting the website up and running, so there will be more info to come. Not sure if I want to trade it in though as it's a cool little coin.
  2. Ok, I am new to this but I got my order from Geoswag(oakcoins) and there was this cool little coin in the package that I didn't order. It doesn't have a tracking number, just has 1 OakBucks on it, a website that does not seem to exist, and an expiration date of Dec. 08. It's a really cool little coin, almost wish it had a tracking number so others could see it as a geocoin.

    new map

I agree, in fact the entire site is slower now.
  4. I am an avid target shooter besides being new to geocaching(of course I can't shoot worth a darn but I enjoy it). I just ordered a descent quantity of 22LR's for my rifle from Cabela's and for every 500 rounds I got a free plastic ammo box, which is larger than the large size metal ammo boxes. It comes with a seal, but the seal is not in place so I put the seal in place, stuck one of my dog toys inside of it and headed out on the deck with the hose and went to town testing it. I hit it in every direction with shower, spray, and power wash, I laid it on it's side, upside down, and right side up, not a drop on the inside when I opened it up after drying with a towel. I just thought I'd put a note out there as this may be a good and cheap idea for all of you who are into shooting also(especially since prices on ammo are going up about 20% this month too). Be safe and have fun.
  5. Thanks guys, I typed NC Foothills Geocoin 2007 activation into yahoo and it came up with another forum that had a link to find the activation code, I clicked it and filled out a little form and they e-mailed me the activation code so I'm going to activate it right now. Once again thanks for being so patient with a rookie. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help be better at this. I have been taking trash bags with me and filling them up on my hunts.
  6. Thanks for the replies, and the nice comments too, I appreciate them. The coin is a NC Foothills Geocachers 2007 the tracking code is: PCxxxx. I checked the log where I found it and I'll just copy and paste what was in that log: June 4 by The Alethiometrists (1095 found) Paid a re-visit to "Fishing Spots" tonight, to rescue Einar, the long-stalled TB (the earlier rumor of his disappearance having been corrected). In exchange, I left an unactivated, GC-trackable NC Foothills geocoin. Thanks again for the cache! Once again thanks for all the help and great advice.
  7. I picked up a Geocoin yesterday, tried to log it in to track it 4 times but apparently the coin is unregistered. I tried to register it but I do not have the activation code for it. My question is this, as I'm new to geocaching, would it be impolite to drill a hole in the edge of it and attach it to my keychain as a symbol of geocaching? I do not want to do anything improper as I really enjoy geocaching and want to be an active and helpful member. Thank you for your advice and be good.
  8. I did what Fratermus said, turned the WAAS on, the battery saver was already off though. I didn't want to wait till morning so I found two adjusted benchmarks about a quarter mile from my house, went to them was happy that one was about a foot off, the other about 6 foot off, so it's not the unit I would say. I'm going to go out early tomorrow and do ten benchmarks, get the distance variance of each and see what I come up with. Thanks for the help though, makes me feel a lot better.
  9. I just got a Garmin 60CSx as per the overall reviews I've seen. I went out to look for one cache and there were another 2 on the way. The two on the way were both easy caches by difficulty but I didn't take a map or anything, just went by the GPS and after about 45 minutes on each no luck finding them. By the way I was spiralling out from where the GPS unit centered on and I ended up about 100 feet out radius on both. I then went to the cache I was intedning to search for, of which I had a map, and the unit was off by about 140 feet when I found the cache. If I didn't have the map it would have been very unlikely I would have found the cache there too. Is this common? I know the units are not exact, but this far off in little cover? How would I go about checking the accuracy of the unit, going to a benchmark? What's the best place to find benchmark locations also? Thanks and be good.
