  1. here in ireland there has been a cacher visting us from sydney austrailia and has managed a 500day streak and is still going strong!!! hes flying back to sydney soon though and looses a day as he is crossing over the intl. date line his caching name is zalgariath...impressive methinks
  2. well done i tried to hide one underwater not so long ago but the dadgum thing kept floating away and getting loose from its tether!....nice cache might get a chance to do it some day....is the difficulty actually 5 or is that just to factor in the extra little bit of terrain?
  3. what about actually making the pop up when you get to the new maps page disappear. even though I click the "do not show this message again" tick box signal and his map speil still show up every time
  4. Sorry to dig up an old thread but at the expense of starting a duplicate one! So i tried the underwater cache.... 1st time out I tethered it to a large rock attached with rot proof rope and a rust proof carabiner. the carabiner gave way and i found the ammo can on the beach.... 2nd time out i actually tied the ammo can to the rock itself which wasnt to be removed but rather just open the lid and take out the lock and lock that was inside again washed out and found floating on the beach. the area im trying to stash it is quite tidal (its in a shallow sea cave) so any suggestions on how to keep this thing underwater?
  5. I am planning three or four caches soon 1. Stage 1 brings you to a forest where there is a beacon hidden (i.e. a wireless doorbell push button that leads to the second stage 100m or so away 2. I just planted a cache in a costal cave that requires you to swim along a sheltered cove I had originally stashed it as an underwater cache but it broke loose and I found the ammo can stashed where I have it placed now 3. I am planning a tube cache i.e. a cache hidden at the bottom of a long pipe and using some "tools" you will have to get it out! 4. A Wherigo based on my cities maratime history using stuff physically in place! 5. My challenge cache "the Ireland top ten challenge" there are also a load of good challenges here in ireland
  6. perhaps this type of guerilla gardening would be better! @barraseaclaid

  10. hi guys, In the name of making better caches I am embarking on a Wherigo cache. I have been messing around with the urwigo builder but really need some help along the way...I dont want someone to build it for me but would love someone to consult on a regular basis about building as I go along....Ill even make it worth someones while and perhaps even gift them a premium membership out of my pocket! please pm me if your interested in working with me.... Interesting idea! I had the same problem and came up with searching similiar words without umlauts with a thesaurus :-). However, I have not managed to import my LUA file into URWIGO, because I have done some custom additions.
  11. Isn't that a resolution difference? The way I read it was that the OP was trying to get the picture to appear equally on the right and on the left side, and although I'm sure there may be some obscure way to do that for all monitor sizes and resolutions, it's not something that is easy to do. Maybe my wording is off? The amount of right/left white space on my monitor and resolution is most likely different than yours and many other viewers, was what my point was trying to be well technically you're right but i guess my wording is off too, i was thinking in terms of what most people's monitor size is, i don't think many regularly use a 10" screen Actually you should be able to use an image other than a solid colour... as long as you work something that matches the upper and lower edges. That might be a darker top to lighter middle to matching darker bottom gradient... keep half the darker portions for the top and bottom appropriately... would give a 'wavy' effect. But you could use any pattern as long as it blended with the next tile vertically. On the other hand it may not work visually... but you would have to play with it a bit... should work on anything. As long as the horizontal lines of pixels match... you should even be able to gradient them or something as long as they match left and right edges of the next tile... I remember seeing one now that uses a Photoshop image that always seems to move... So not impossible to do... Just think about what you are doing. Doug 7rxc could never get the hang of photoshop so i'll stick to the green background, good enough for me, actually it looks quite good cheers for the replys guys i figured as much that the image was related to the monitor resolution and even down to the browser and zoom level of a user...ah welll
  12. Ok so today a 9 of my 11 placed caches glitched and the background image for each dissappeared. When I checked the listing I seem that the edit cache page had no longer the related background url there so I replaced it again but this has reminded me of something I meant to post before but forgot. Tried searching around old posts but to no avail. With the latest site update images seem to tile behind the cache page detail. while this is fine in some cases in others it would be great if the image didnt repeat across the page as it takes away from the over all aesthetic of the page (perhaps!!!) So is there a way to do the following i.e. have an image that has a left and a right side i.e. one part will tile on the space on the left of the cache page and one part tiling across the right so in the case of a sample image it will be split in two down the middle so there are no repeating parts. the intention here is to edit the pix in photoshop to the required dimensions with white space between if needs be so the images only repeat once across the width. I would love if this was possible down the page but I already see that thats related to the actual length of the detail on the cache page itself.
  13. the highest proof alcohol you can find and most of the time around the house here that for me comes in the form of old after shave spray it on and leave for a minute and a bit of elbow grease should do the trick!
  14. +1 on social media integration...well overdue...
  15. always worthwhile to throw this question about forums.geocachingireland.com too Havent done many up north myself though...
  16. My seven found, in the last hour, say you are wrong. Signed, An Improper GPS'r  well done!
  17. I still consider myself a relatively new cacher and yeah I have a gps but most of the time I use my smartphone and only the gpsr when placing caches or going somewhere that the phone is likely to get wrecked....TO be honest I was specifically refering to Dankoozys post because the guy sent an email to a cacher I met at one or two events and hes a teenager so may take it to heart getting abuse over having his cache PM only.... This thread is sort of converging with another along the same lines but the bottom line is a smartphone lacks the accuracy of a proper gpsr.
  18. Ah Dan come off your high horse you wernt allowed to find one PM cache in cork and your ranting. Its a small investment in a great pasttime and as far as elitism is concerned its the first time ever anyone has coined that phrase id say...its not like gc has established a caste (cashte!!! ) system
  19. chalk me down for one of the grey/bN please!

  21. cheers for the cointest... so one weekend i was hunting for a cache near where my girlfriend lived that was hidden near a disused railway bridge and so we got to within a couple of metres of GZ...obviously the cache was up on the bridge which we were standing over...so I decided to scramble up the rocks at the side to get the cache while in the fading evening light my girlfriend patiently waited along the river bank below the bridge...well me being me got carried away and after I found the cache I decided to scale a wall that was stopping people going on to the bridge a bit naughty to say the least and after taking some obligatory pictures headed back down to the river bank to meet my girlfriend who was no where to be seen so i figured that she had gone back to the car after being annoyed at the long wait for me so I walked back (about 1.5miles) and got to the car expecting to see my girl waiting but there was no sign of her so I realised that she was probably still at GZ"!!!!!! At this stage it was almost dark and boy does she hate the dark so I made the quickest mile I could torch in hand only to find her along the way scared out of her wits! A bit funny for me but really dark side for her!!!!!
