  1. I didn't log any caches until fairly late, but the site is definitely running a lot faster than it has been. I will agree, Thank you to all the geocaching.com and Groundspeak staff and to Jeremy for the new servers. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  2. Looks like their server crashed and no one is around to get it going again. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  3. Did you post your note on the cache page or on the travel bug's page? If you didn't log it on the travel bug page with the ID number then the system won't log you as being the current person with the bug. I have placed a bug before while out of town and another geocacher grabbed the bug before I had a chance to get to a computer to properly place the bug in the cache. 4. See if these might help: LOCAL DATUM TO WGS84 TR8350.2 Google Subject: molodensky formula Standard Molodensky formula "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  5. I have had most of my caches approved within a day or maybe two. One was approved within a couple of hours and I've had some take as long as 6-7 days. It all depends on the cache approvers for your area. They might be out of town for a few days or a week and take awhile to get all the caches approved, they might be sick, or they might be sitting at their computer and have it approved within an hour or two after you post it. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  6. Archived caches won't show up in a PQ. The only way to access them is though the web site if you know the cache ID or if you have a link to them like on the list of logs on your My cache page. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  7. Oops, hit the button twice.... "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  8. I am an IT person, but all I do is head to the nearest cache from where I'm at. Sometimes it's probably not too efficient, but so far it's worked pretty good. Sometimes it's difficult to find the right road to take to get to the area, sometimes I drive right to it. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo

This is the link on every cache page, just under the _Download Waypoint File (*.loc)_ link. It has the info on some of the available software to use with loc and gpx files. http://208.55.63.109/images/stunod_sig.gif _"Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." - Homer Simpson_ Shows how often I've used the manual download waypoints lately. I'm glad there is a list of software for working with the GPX/LOC files. Pocket Queries, GPX Spinner, Plucker and Watcher make my geocaching life a whole lot better. I hope to never go back to printing out cache pages again. Worth every penny of the $30/year membership. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  10. quote:Originally posted by The 3 Hills:Ok, I'm convinced - ebook sucks and Spinner/Plucker rules. Apart from a number of setup issues with plucker(that I managed to work through) I must agree that the results in plucker are much easier to work with. Thanks for the pointer smithdw, I had heard of these before (and use Watcher alot already) but had mostly forgotten about them (wasn't there a link at one time from geocaching.com ?) ddhill You're welcome. I agree that Spinner/Plucker is the way to go. I don't remember there being a link on the GC.com site. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  11. Try downloading and using GPX Spinner and Plucker. You can run the GPX file sent from your pocket query through GPX Spinner and then load the HTML files created by it into the Palm using Plucker. The software lets you sort the cache list in many different ways, setup multiple reference locations, one-tap hint decoding and nearest caches list to the one you are looking at. It does more than that, but overall it is much better than MobiPocket and somewhat faster too. Also there is Watcher which lets you view/sort/ignore/etc cache pages from the GPX file on your PC. If you have problems setting it up I can post or email the steps that are needed to set them up that I made when helping a couple of other geocachers. 12. Elvis has left the orbit... "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  13. My caches that haven't been found in a while are 114, 92, 91 & 90 days. There is one that was found 16 months ago and another that has never been found that was placed 2 years ago on 7/21/01. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  14. Free is a very good price. I haven't seen one of the staffs in person, but from what I have seen on the web site, they are really excellent. I'm sure Ryan would love to see his picture on a staff. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  15. I see 11 logs including yours. Must be the phase of the moon or something. Try logging out and back in or restarting your computer or just refreshing the page. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  16. I just had to post something on this thread. It seems that a lot of the posts in the forums lately are either complaints or people arguing with other people. I really appreciate all the hard work and time and effort that Jeremy and the other admins have put into this web site. I have for the most part really liked the improvements and changes to the site over the last few months. Some of the 'features' have taken a little time to get used to and a lot of the problems that have occured during the update have been solved. I know how much time goes into maintaining servers and networks, that is what I do every day. I don't maintain a web site, but I have a good idea since we had a website that was for my girlfriends store. So, thank you to everyone that is working on the site and to all the cache approvers. You have been doing a tremendous job in my view. Also, thanks for the new server for the site. I hope you get the memory problem fixed. Hope you have a good warranty and service contract with it. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  17. I was getting many out of memory errors. Definitely looks like a problem with the server memory. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  18. Have you logged out and logged back in? "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  19. For Watcher, you need to enter your reference location coordinates under Options-Coordinates-Edit Centers. If you are using Spinner or other similar programs, then you need to edit the reflocations.txt file and enter your coordinates in that file. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  20. This One is one month younger than that one. It was placed on 7/21/2001. That's the oldest not found cache that is in the area by me. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  21. Welcome to the premimum membership. I have to agree that the pocket queries are definitely worth the price by themselves. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  22. quote:Originally posted by pnew:can we use html in our profiles now or could we always? Also is there some way to total it all down at the bottom of the list. I like to keep up with my numbers for my own reasons and now I have to do all this adding! lol could you have them totaled? other then that it looks great! http://www.texasgeocaching.com The Department of Redundancy Department A geocache a day keeps the debtors away (cause your never home to take the call...) I agree, it would be great if the total number of caches were listed at the bottom of the cache finds. The stats for me says I found 1 Moun10bike coin, I don't remember ever finding one of those. 23. I can't even remember the last time I seen a phone booth, especially around here. Cell phones have basically killed off the pay phone entirely. Now I really think I need to find one just to hide a micro in. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
  24. 4-wheeling in the Jeeps (4-wheeling to a cache is even more fun), bottom fishing on the ocean, any other kind of fishing, crabbing, camping (we have an ancient tent trailer that works great behind the Jeep), working on cars. Mostly what I've been doing outside lately has been geocaching, although a couple weekends ago we went bottom fishing out of Charleston, Oregon and had a great time. The whole boat limited out. Wasn't even a single person hanging over the side chumming either. "The best way to accelerate a Macintosh is at 9.8m/sec/sec." -Marcus Dolengo
