  1. The map microSD in my Garmin 60cx broke so today I tried to Geocache with my phone and it was a bitch. My smartphone would show the caches and where I was but no maps. Someone in this thread mentioned to download the maps. How do I do that? I have an Android. Is it an app?
  2. IT WORKED!!! I opened the zipped file and there it was. I transferred gmapsupp.imp to a microSD which I then put into my Garmin. I then called up Geocaches and picked one and there is was ON A MAP. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!
  3. That's the right zip file. Was one of the .img files named "gmapsupp.img"? That's the particular file you want. I haven't used that method for a while, but I don't remember it coming with a whole bunch of .img files. If the gmapsupp.img file is in there, just ignore the rest. When I downloaded the zip file I opened it and got osm_generic_new_windows.exe. When I clicked on that (the .exe file) is when I got all the img files - all files names where a string of numbers (63240111.img). So, I went back to the email link to retrieve the osm_generic_gmapsupp.zip file and the link is no good even though they say it will be good for 48 hours (has only been 24 hours). I wanted to examine the unzipped file again to see if the gmapsupp.img was there. So, now I've put in another request and will look at the new zip files for the gmapsupp.img file. OH SH*T: I just got the new link and it's already expired!!!!! Grrrrrrr. Somethings not right here. I'll try again and get back to you....please hang in there as you're the only one trying to help me with the issue. OK, it's downloading now.....I'll be right back
  4. There was no .img file. These are the files at the designated link: tiles.txt osm_generic_windows.exe osm_generic_tiles.zip osm_generic_macosx.zip osm_generic_gmapsupp.zip license.txt buildlog.txt 63240000_license.txt 63240000.nsi I opened osm_generic_gmapsupp.zip and it was a ton of .img files...I think one for each tile. What did I do wrong?
  5. I checked on Open Street Maps. My Garmin can only handle one map at a time. Is each state a separate map? Do I want the "Generic Routable?" Clearly I'll have to do more reading on the website (OSM) tonight.
  6. Will Open Street Maps works well for geocaching? I'll have to look at BaseCamp as I don't know anything about it...for geocaching? I let my geocaching lag for a few years but am now full-time RVing so am back at it and thought I might need to upgrade. Thanks for all your help as I've been out of the loop for awhile.
  7. I got my 60cx in 2007 and never updated the mapping software: City Navigator N.A. NT 2008 Aug. How do I update that software? And how to I find the version number of the one I have installed now?
  8. Just making a test post.
  9. I was hoping I wouldn't have to bring my laptop but I guess I will. Thanks for the suggestions.
  10. I will be out and about but have 3 pocket queries that cover the area that I will be in. How can I "carry" the pocket queries with me then load which ever one I need at the time? I would normally load to gps at home from my computer but can only load one. Any suggestions? I have a Garmin 60cs.
  11. I still haven't seen an answer for the original question: I can't hotsync, Cachemate is gone from my Palm. How do I get cachemate back on the palm via the SD card?
  12. I have a trackable assigned to my RV. When someone stop it they can Discover it. How to I track those finds on a map?
  13. I see what you are saying and am just hoping there is some way to thin things out. Maybe the real problem is all the questions asked over and over and over. I know I have been frustrated at times trying to use the search option. Maybe that's the reason so many keep posting items already covered. So, do you think a better search engine would help? I still think there's got to be a way to have some, even if just a few, sub-topics so that we don't have to receive every single post in Getting Started and GPS/Technology. I'm not saying a detailed breakdown of every model or every software title. And there would still need to be a "General" sub-topic. But how about sub-topics for: Routes, Choosing a GPS, Creating a Cache, Paperless - now there's a few that would really take alot of posts out of the "General" area. I agree that we have a ton of great responders when you need help. And I'm amazed that they continue to read through post after post that have already been addressed. I have to give them alot of credit for that.
  14. Sorry. My post had to do with 2 completely different topics. Some people who subscribe to one might not subscribe to the other. I'm not sure I'd consider it "multiple" when it pertains to 2 separate topics. the other was to the website people.
  15. I just double click on the map at the bottom (not on the right at the top) and then I can see all of them. I can also check the box so it won't show the ones I've already found. I use this all the time as I not only know what caches are there but where they are.
  16. When someone has a post about a specific GPS or software it would sure be nice to have a sub-topic for it so we only have to read thru the ones that pertain to our GPS and software. And it would be much easier for people to find the answer to their post if they didn't have to wade thru or search thru tons of posts that have nothing to do with them. We seem to get the same questions posted over and over and I think this would cut down on that. Also, I like posts emailed to me as they are posted and it would cut way down on my emails if I could choose to only receive ones that have to do with my GPS and software. Anyone else what to try to push this through????

  18. I like new posts sent to my email but there are sooo many in the "GPS and Technology" and "Getting Started" - I would love to see some sub-topics for both of these that are by GPS (etrex, 60csx, etc) when the post is for a specific GPSr. Also for a specific software (GSAK, Cachemate, etc). Then I could just have the topics that pertain to my GPS and software email to me. I know some posts are non-specific so there should also be a sub-topic for those. This would sure cut down on the tons of emails I get. And, no, I don't like the daily or weekly summary options - I prefer to get them as they are posted. What are the chances of getting these to main topics broken down in to smaller, more manageable sub-topics?
  19. Thanks, thats why I need proof readers, ever look at something so long you convince your self it's all good ? Yes, everyday in the mirror!!
  20. I appreciate the support and understanding on this matter. Now to just get the cacher of FOUR years to understand it. Yes, I emailed him and nicely asked why he took them and moved them away from the airport - told him I was "just curious" and am hoping to get a reply. I think I'll start leaving a note inside the baggy saying when I dropped it and asking to please wait until ...whenever... to log the take. One thing for sure: I will always email these people and hope that at least a few start doing it the right way. Sorry, but "IDIOTS" keeps popping in my head when I think of these..........idiots!!! Again...thanks!!!!!
  21. I was going out of town for the weekend (driving) so went out of my way to drop 4 TBs at a TB Hotel near an airport since their goals were out of state (Europe, Colorado, Washington). Not more than 2 hours later someone takes 3 of them and "grabs" them from me (which I think is rude since he could have waited a day or two & given me a chance to drop them). THEN he takes them BACK up into the mountains (sorta where I came from) and drops 2 of them in a remote area!!!!! I had put each TB in a baggie with a big note with the name of the destination on each. So what do you think? How about giving people a day or two to drop an item (especially if you're not dropping it right away) and how about just discovering it if you have no intention of moving it on it's way? If nothing else, I hope this post reminds people and encourages people to give others a chance to "drop" a TB before you "grab" it and to not sabotage their journey.
  22. altoid and other tin containers always end up rusting from the moisture - I would avoid any tin-type containers.
  23. I disagree because I might find the large item (tire rim) but not the micro container/log. I agree with those that say that it's a micro because the hunt isn't over until the micro is found. I would say an ammo can is an exception only because of their wide use as a cache container.....tho I have no idea why someone would want to put a micro in an ammo can...what a waste of a micro.
