  1. Hello,

we come from Germany and have a problem ... one of our TB's is caught with 7 other together in Italy in the Toscana. Namely in a Cache reviwer did not want to publish. However, I could procure the co-ordinates and listing. Now to the real request, somebody could go of you there and release the TB's??? Here the link to the Listing: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cdpf.aspx?g...99-dc18a53b8b4b

    Thanks for yor help

    Team TuSaSte

Hi, what's happened? Why the reviewer doesn't want to publish this cache?

    Grazie

  4. Hi all again,

I've just placed one more brand new geocache. As usual, I'm asking your help to correct my translation of the description. Thank you.

If you like Tuscany panoramas, then you can't stay without climbing up to the top of Monte Voltraio.

The hike is hard and dangerous, but the breathtaking views and sense of peace and harmony will be a good prize for this challenge.

Only few informations about this striking relief survived until present times. Monte Voltraio, also known as Fortress Hillock, rises at few kilometers from the town of Volterra, at 458 meters over sea-level. There was in the past an ancient medieval village, of which at present times we still can see some ruins, outpost of Volterra thanks to it's strategic sight over Era Valley and Cecina Valley. From it's summit, in fact, you can admire all the surrounding hollow and the beautiful medieval building of Casale di Rocca, now abandoned. The importance of this castle is reported since year 967, when it was home of a council that emperor Otto I participated. Various documents referred to following centuries supports the high reputation of the village, because of the influence of its consoles on the wrangles between the municipality and the bishop of Volterra and even on the wars between San Gimignano and Volterra.

Legend says that behind Monte Voltraio a golden hen with twelve golden chicks is hiding. This is a very ancient legend, handed down from generation to generation, dated back even to the Etruscan age, as an expression of the Etruscan confederation and its twelve towns.

To reach this cache drive on the SR68 from Colle di val d'Elsa to Volterra (or vice versa). When near to Volterra, turn right (left, if you come from Volterra) following the sign to Pontedera, then, after few hundreds of meters, turn right again toward Palagione. At the waypoint marked as "Parking" you will find a very small space for just one car. Leave your car and keep going on foot inside the woods following the dirt road, that will soon become a footpath and then a dry stream bed. When you'll be near the summit, the path will become larger again. On your trail, you'll find some forks: usually, the steepest path is the right one, but, if you are in doubt, just trust your GPS unit. First of all, reach the "Sceniv View" waypoint, then proceed to the cache from there. The cache is a plastic container with blue lid inside a whit bag, please hide it well again after logging your visit, because hikers are usual to visit the area sometimes.

    Good hunting!

WARNING!!! Ruins are unstable, path is occasionally steep and craggy, and the top of the hill may be subject to landslides. Use gumption and proceed at your own risk.

  5. Ciao CMauri, grazie per la rapida risposta!!

Chiedo agli amici cosa preferiscono fare e poi procedo.

    Ciao a tutti

  7. I use CompeGPS with my PPC, it's not specifically designed for geocaching, but it's useful 'cause it lets me to load military area maps and use them as reference when looking for some road path to try getting as close as possible to caches inside woods by car and to have an idea of where I am.

I get all the nearest caches that I haven't found in gpx format on my mailbox every Friday (using pocket queries), then I wrote a script which automatically converts the gpx file into a CompeGPS waipoint file (.wpt) and then it generates a folder with html files containing updated caches' descriptions (with logs, number of TBs in the cache, etc...).

Then I just have to connect my PPC to my PC to let it sync and I automagically got an updated list of all the caches of my interest in my hand :D

  8. Hi all,

I've just placed one more cache, and, once again, I need some english-skilled geocacher to check my poor translation of the cache description :D

    Thank you!

For those who got one hour to spend in personal cultural training, we suggest you to visit the Castle of "Le Vergene", before time and negligence will complete the decay of a such magnificent work that men created some centuries ago.

The compound is located in a scenic position, upon the crest of a hill west to Pievescola and can be reached driving on the SS426 road from Colle di Val d'Elsa toward the sea, then turning right over a white road and going by foot in the final part of the hunt.

It's composed of three main buildings and a church, located about 200 meters away inside the woods. It seems that it has been an important center and a sighting post during Middle Ages: the tower, that controls the entire village, is an evidence of this.

The entrance of the compound is a portal crowned by a Siena style lancet arch, located on the path; on the left, there is a rural building on two floors, with composite floor plan with various attached and aggregated structures, all overgrown by vegetation and without a roof; on the right, there is the tower of four floors, with rectangular floor plan, home of the nobles with warehouses and stables on the low ground; facing the tower, there is one more smaller rural building on two floors, with rectangular floor plan and one attached structure; they are also the well and a cypress between these two buildings.

The compound's inner space was the garden but it's uncultivated today. On the flank of the buildings, there is a small grassy plain, surrounded by trees (black locusts, oaks, firs). The castle is connected to the church by a road coasted by a line of cypresses and oak trees. Two more large specimens of cypress and oak tree are located on the sides of the church, where they are also some big bushes of broom.

The castle's existence is documented from the beginning of XIV century, it was owned by Siena until 1554, when Medici family of Florence conquered it. The church has a rectangular floor plan, with a brick bell tower and it's first mentioned on a XIII century document.

This cache is very easy to find, please accurately put stones back in place once you removed them to completely hide the container and prevent him from being accidentally discoverer from people extraneous to this game, since this location is often frequented by hunters.

WARNING!!! Buildings are in unstable conditions, you should absolutely avoid to go inside!

    Have an happy tour!

  9. Hello,

I think it would be useful to have a feature to allow not only the TB owner but also the owner of the Cache where a certain TB is listed to move a TB to an "unknown location".

Too often I signaled an owner that a certain TB is missing (after visiting the cache) and he decided to not move it to unknown location, leaving the TB listed in the cache.

Time after time, even more TBs are listed in the cache that are not really there and this becomes a serious issue (especially on TB hotels).

Do you too think this feature would be useful? You it would be inappropriate? Why? Plz let me know.

  10. Ciao Davide,

  11. Hi all,

this is my 2nd hidden geocache. Once again, I need your help to check the translation (syntax and grammar) and your hints to add missing details to description.

    Thank you!

Brand new geocache, placed with the collaboration of the "Gremma's gang". Be prepared to jump over fallen trees and to find some mud in your path. We suggest you to hunt for this cache during winter, because in the hot moths the small creek may completely desiccate.

This cache was placed during the "Woods Trip 2007" in a "little" place which is certainly worth a visit. The container (a plastic tray with a blue lid, not inside a bag) is hidden near an awesome small waterfall, which we named "Nymph's Waterfall", where the creek jumps over a wonderful calcareous rock into a pool of clear water.

To reach this location you'll need you wizardry and some bravery, because you'll not find any road but just some path inside the woods.

If you got enough time and you like challenges, we keenly suggest you to take half a day to follow the path of the creek toward the valley (after founding the cache): if you'll decide to do that, you'll have to found your way inside vegetation using a stick or, better, a machete and you'll have to walk over hard and slippery terrain, but you'll find a lot of waterfalls and calcareous along the creek's route, getting yourself across wild unpolluted places. If you need it, feel free to contact me asking for more informations (maps, gps tracks, ...).

WARNING! GPS signal isn't good in the area and my receiver is usually very inaccurate anyway, so the given coordinates may be up to 20-25 meters wrong. Remember: the cache isn't far from the waterfall!

If you are one of the first to find this cache (if really anyone will never go to hunt it), please send me the cache position given by your GPS units, so I can adjust the coordinates.

    Happy hunting!

  12. Hi all, this is my first post B)

I'm ready to hide a new multicache and I would appreciate if any english geocacher may check my translation of the cache description (my english skill is not so good  )

    Thank you!

“Sapia” is an easy multicache on 3 stages through the historical center of the town of Colle di Val d'Elsa. The cache lies near the Bastion of Sapia, from wich it takes its name. Indicated terrain difficulty is 2 because you may encounter some tall grasses on the final part of the path during some periods of the year. Waypoints are really close each other so it shouldn't take more than one hour to discover the final cache.

The entire hunt develops inside a Limited Traffic Zone, the best place to park your car is at 43° 25.299' N 11° 06.970' E, but, if you are not running out of time, I suggest you to park at 43° 25.236' N 11° 06.755' E then walk by foot through the historical center that certainly deserves to be visited.

So, reach the first waypoint, where you'll find a memorial stone. Upon this stone they're two numbers, first one is in roman numerals, second one is in arabic numerals instead.

The coordinates of second waypoint are:

    43° 25.xxx' N 11° 07.yyy' E

    xxx=320 + first number

    yyy=1423 – second number

When you reach the second waypoint, you'll find a strange monument. There are only letters this time, but it doesn't matter if you don't know italian language because you just have to count of how many characters the inscription is composed.

Finally, these are the coordinates for the cache:

    43°25.xxx' N 11.07.yyy' E

    xxx=000 + number of chars

    yyy=111 + number of chars

    Happy hunt!

    Curiosities:

Local tradiction wants that Sapia Salvani from Siena, during the Battle of Colle of Jun 17, 1269 between guelphs and ghibellines (as Dante also wrote) was observing this event from the bastion of Baluardo (near first waypoint) and praying for the defeat of her fellow-citizens, leaded by her nephew: Provenzano Salvani. Sapia was really hating Provenzano because of political reasons. Fate wanted to accomplish Sapia's prayers and then 1.100 guelph soldiers of Colle put in place a good trick and defeat an army of 9.400 ghibellines from Siena. Provenzano doesn't wanted to come back to Siena as a loser, then he decided to throw himself under the fury of battle and so be killed.
