  1. I had this happen on a replacement unit. I figured that once the power was no longer going to the battery, it was somehow spilling over into the screen or video processor. I contacted Garmin and they replaced it again, this time with a unit that did not exhibit this behavior.
  2. So the wait on hold with Garmin this afternoon was 5-7 minutes, that's a little better. Must have got caught in the post weekend rush this morning. I just got off the phone with the Garmin rep. Turns out my warranty expired 2 weeks ago. I explained that I had experienced screen calibration issues with my unit initially and that it had been replaced twice already, and that I was told by the Garmin USA support site that the repair cost would be covered. At this point the rep said that they would make an exception and cover the repair cost for me. Wow. I was told to submit through their Canadian repair facility - Raytech.ca, so I will be sending the unit off today. One thing I have to say, Garmin has been really good at standing behind their products. The software updates for my unit have been adding new and useful features, and customer service reps that actually have some leeway to take care of their customers make Garmin a company I plan to stick with for my future purchases.
  3. Just tried calling since Garmin wasn't open until today. The wait time is 30-35 minutes. I guess I'll try after work this afternoon. The US site would allow me to RMA my unit online but us Canadian customers need to phone in.
  4. I read about that, I also saw that Garmin ultimately covered the cost to replace that screen after an initial quote of $170.00. I am hoping that I will be as fortunate, although I am a little concerned about the ruggedness of this unit now. I seem to recall it being advertised as Garmin's "toughest GPS ever".
  5. So I went to upload some tracks for a hike and I thought I saw a bubble of moisture along the bottom of my screen protector. Upon closer examination, I was shocked to see that my Montana screen is cracked. The weird thing is that I have been very careful not to drop or abuse the unit. It spent the previous day of hiking in the front pocket of my cargo pants. I had noticed at the end of that day that the screen seemed like the calibration was off, but nothing was visibly wrong to me at that point and I was tired. So I guess it is off to Garmin for repair, but I thought I'd drop a note here and keep you posted on how things go.
  6. That's a relief. Now that I am on my 3rd unit... and out of screen protectors... I don't want to go through the hassle of another exchange. I wish someone at Garmin was a little more forthcoming with what exactly the issue is.
  7. I'm thinking that I'm doing ok with 3.4 for now then. Waiting for the next reasonably stable release...
  8. Lets hope this fixes the compass issues people have been having.
  9. I had posted the latest 3.50 changelog here but I see it has its own thread. Apologies.
  10. I'm on my second replacement. This time it has a serial 10,000 higher than the first 2 did.
  11. Changes made from version 3.30 to 3.40: Fixed shutdown viewing routes on map Fixed satellite dashboard on the map Fixed issue where parts of map review page were not responsive to touch Fixed issue with right side controls where dashboard and icons could overlap on main menu Fixed issue where some auto-archived tracks would be named in English regardless of user language Fixed issue where background would not update correctly behind dashboards Just noticed the last issue today while I was out driving. I'm glad there is a fix already but I am getting nervous that I am developing a second mis-calibrating display. I was concerned when my replacement had a lower serial number than the original Montana that I bought. Anyone heard anything official from Garmin on this? Thanks
  12. A new version has shown up again today... here is the changelog. Changes made from version 3.20 to 3.30: Fixed spanner mode prompt Fixed issues reviewing very long routes in route planner Fixed issue with disappearing dashboard on the main menu Fixed issue where selected dashboard would not show up unless page was exited and reentered. 14. Swapped my unit with faulty display calibration. Just downloaded the latest firmware. Living life on the edge Changes made from version 2.80 to 3.10: Added support for advanced geocache logging with OpenCaching.com. See TrailTech (http://garmin.blogs.com/softwareupdates/2011/08/advanced-geocache-logging-with-opencachingcom.html) for more information. Added Restore Defaults option to setup pages Fixed issue where proximity alarms would not be audible Fixed issue that occurred with the altimeter page when using a 24-hour clock Fixed issue where the map would sometimes not refresh when using the active route page Fixed an issue where the dashboard would sometimes appear while panning on the map Fixed issue with saving tracks in area calculation page Fixed issue with highlighting of some shortcuts in the drawer Fixed issue with the keyboard layout in landscape orientation when the system language was set to French Fixed issues that sometimes occurred when exiting Where To? > Address or Where To? > Intersection Modified the 'Arriving at Destination' message banner so that it no longer appears when navigating to a geocache
  15. Is there information about this somewhere or will my dealer be aware of this? Thanks for your response!
  16. My issue is with screen calibration. Even though I have run through it repeatedly, I have to guess where my finger pushes will register. I think it was better before the first time I calibrated.
