  1. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. :)

We had reviewers that cover five different states attend. Multiple reviewers from four of those states.

I know of one from CA, one from WA, and one from OR... mmm, maybe if I think for a while I could come up with a few more wait... I just thought of another one... I just don't know who the fifth one is???

This was really a secret reviewer meet and greet, but it wasn't on the public forum.... :):)

  2. So, really, how big can this event be? Only 37 will attend logs!

I think I saw more then 37 people, then again, it may have been a dream....

no don't wake me up yet ;)

  3. There's only 22 cache left in Oregon from the first year...

And once it's set-up, it's not hard to maintain the data base (I'll even give you the tools I use).

Okay, I'm game. It really sounds like fun. Please email me some more information.

  5. A lot of things that are being listed that people want like the distance range can already be easily done in google earth. Or in a topo map if you have to print where the caches are. I got my topo map when I bought maps for my GPS, so I didn't have to re buy anything.

    Off Topic:

The frogs have such a wide range of ages and tech skill level to develop for. I know there are people like my dad who use the site that can barely turn their computer on, and if you take away one of his icons on his desktop he freaks out because he can't do something the way he has been doing it for the last 2 years. And then on the opposite end, you have people who love techy stuff, and like the constant change of new features. Which I fall into, I want a new Iphone, not because my current phone is broken but because it has cool features and is soooo shiny! :D

Then there are those who don't use the maps on geocaching.com, just cause...

I use the maps in my GPS and if the info in there is wrong, then I have a longer hike... O well ...

  6. Never mind, I got rid of them... :D

Okay, I'm not sure where to put this. I used someone's route of "Eugene to Portland, Oregon" for a PQ. It created 5 PQ's for me all of them "Eugene to Portland, Oregon" and now I can't get rid of them, because they give me an error message. I will post the message for each one, on the other hand they all say the same thing. I am using Foxfire, and running XP. I'm not sure of what other information you want.

I only need one in my Queue, not five. Please help :D

  8. To help you in your scubacaching quest, we have a _bookmark_list_ for you that includes only caches that we've checked and verified (as best we can) to be caches actually intended to be done with scuba. Just _click_here_to_go_to_that_list._

So, what do the people around here think about it?

You have written too much information. I think all you need to add if you must add a bookmark is what is above. That is my thought. This way it doesn't say anything more. Short and sweet is the best policy.

  9. Personally if I saw a cache in the middle of the desert with a driver attribute on it, I won't bring my diving gear, because I would know better.

Really? What if you saw a diving cache located here: topo / google

It's in the middle of the desert. There is no water showing on any map. Should you bring your gear?

In reply to your question, there is water near by, but there isn't a cache there and diving isn't required on any of the nearby caches. I would ask a cacher who has found the cache, as I stated before. I wouldn't travel 1000 miles and fly my diving stuff to Abilene, Texas without some idea of what I was doing first. I would gather information first. Once again, my personal safety is important to me. Now I do know of people who do cave diving and Texas is known for some nice cave and some with water in them, but I'm not sure if I've heard of any caves with water in them that has caches. I have other sources that I could find out for that information. I hope that answers your question.

  10. So what about people who never use attributes on their caches, yet require special equiment? I thought using the attributes were an option.

If you care about the safety and your equiment you should check out where you are going to dive and learn something about the area before you go. Just because someone says that something is a special way doesn't always mean that it is that way.

If I look at a cache and it is in the water, I would know that I need something other then walking to it. I would go check out the area. If the area was 500 miles away, I would contact a cacher who has located the cache or the owner to see what was up. I really don't think the attributes are that useful.

Somethings are just common sense. I have seen attributes both overused and misused. Perhaps someone should waste there time and placing a bookmark on all the caches that don't have attributes on them.

How does ClayJar know that there aren't caches out there that require diving gear and aren't on his list if they don't have attributes with the little guy who has a tank on. Has he bookmarked those caches? Personally if I saw a cache in the middle of the desert with a driver attribute on it, I won't bring my diving gear, because I would know better. :P

  11. Moving to the regional forum where the locals are more likely to see this.

The geocachers for that area usually hang out here:

    www.socalgeocachers.com/

Although I'm getting a forbidden message, just me?

Best thing to do is show up to an event in your area and make some geo-friends.

    Good luck,

    Duncan

Hackers have claimed the site and it is being worked on as we speak. It should be up and working in a few days.

  12. Since most of the caching I do these days is several hundred miles from home, it's very frustrating to spend time looking for unmaintained caches. With respect to the comment about the GSAK filter being "ruined" for a cache, I wish more caches would be ruined that way. There's nothing like running a GSAK filter, uploading all caches in an area with two or more consecutive green boxes, and finding (or not finding) a cache with issues, logging my find, and then seeing the previous logs that stated there were problems.

Or to find that someone logged a find after several (like 3 to 5 DNF) on a missing cache and there is no cache, when you go look for it and about 3 to 5 people after you can't find it either.

I log Needs Maintenace Logs when there is a group of us looking for the same cache, it hasn't been found in months, and we expanded our search to 100 feet.

I also log Needs Maintenace Logs when there are 3 to 5 DNF's and I can't find it. Just because I can't find it doesn't mean it's not there. I just may not have been able to spot the cache.

  13. You stole my idea! :anicute: I hope this becomes a posting forum for CAR queries and lists. I have a silly computer that does not have the pulse to keep up with google earth, and alas, I can not create any routes on this machine. So, here I wait for another PM to post (hint, hint) a route from Portland, OR to Government Camp, OR for this weekend's camping trip.

IF anyone gets the time to make one, let me know and I'll head back to the search page.

    Thanks!

I created the file for you. You can type in "Oregon" or in the Keyword "Portland" or "Sandy"

  14. Okay, I have now posted 9 "Caches along a Route." In order to test to see if they come up with the keywords, I have done that and have refound the ones that I have posted, but when I typed in California, or CA, nothing of mine showed up. I can't even go back and edit the "Caches along a Route" I don't know why either. I know that this is like beta testing, so I know there is really no formal way of doing the Caches along the route thing. For example, I have noticed that people are putting the Highway's in different.

I'm not sure if you use the keyword it picks up the titles name although I thought that it would. I'm about to go traveling and I thought I would see what others posted along the route. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  16. I think that I will geocache the rest of my life. As long as there are caches I will find them. Now how often I go caching will depend on what else is going on in my life.

    Soup has some great events!!!

For some people it's the numbers, other people is where the caches take you, some it's the travelbugs/geocoins and for others it's the people. Geocaching is different for everyone.

  17. Toby's Gang and ALL,

Speaking of summer caching up here, mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Big Bear Cache Bash, Aug. 26. We will be posting it soon on GC.com. It will be fantastic, lots of new caches, summer, the lake is full...oh, I can't wait! See you here! :D:D:D

Please let me know when you get the page posted :D Thanks HappyFrog

  18. i see a couple of the bugs have traveled north up into washington... what happens if they make it to canada? :) do they have to come back into the US via the same state?

    so many issues! B)

i am enjoying this... GO PATRICK!

If they go to Canada from Washington they can come back into either Washington or Idaho any other state would not work. Some of the Cannonball Racers are still in Oregon.

May the best racer win. I just want mine to get to the finish line. It can't win anyway. B)
