  1. It doesn't really seem like bitching just because a lot of people care about geocaching and want to see caches treated consistenly. Nobody said you shouldn't donate. It just seemed like a great opportunity for our group to make a huge donation to disaster relief. I think they could raise a lot more money if it was posted on the main page with a tote board. So I guess if you don't like reading the "bitching" you can go...geocaching. Mike
  2. I would like to see on a cache evnt type cache when multiple people put it on each member gets credit for the "hide" just so when you look at your profile you see how many events you put on or co put on. Mike
  3. I don't think getting a smiley is profiting from the death of those people. It is a reward for making a cash contribution to help out the survivours. I agree that this cache probably should not have been approved. If Geocaching.com wanted to contribute they could have posted a link to contribute to a charity and kept a tally of money donated by geocachers. No smiley's involved. Mike
  4. That is a feature I would like. I usually go through all the nearby caches to see if anyone found them today just so I can see who is out and about and its fun reading everyones logs. Mike
  5. I f we give it a good search and come up empty we log a DNF. If we only have time to do a five minute look we will probably hold off logging a DNF until we come back and give it a good search. Mike
  6. Nobody likes playing with cheaters. I don't care if its Scrabble, Poker, or Geocaching. If you don't choose to follow the rules outlined by geocaching.com and the cache owner don't play. I think anyone who cheats should have a lifetime ban from the web site. I really dislike cheaters! Mike
  7. No one wants to remove your Butts! Keep them with you.
  8. I would keep the Garmin for geocaching. Then I would set up my PDA for storing cache pages and Mapopolis maps. We use GPX Sonar for storing cache pages.
  9. They are trade items like everything else. Some are fun to collect. I saw one person who has a album with all the geo-business cards of the different cachers who leave them. Mike
  10. To add an avatar image: 1. Log in to geocaching.com 2. Click on your username in the upper right hand corner of the geocaching.com website. 3. Click on "edit profile" link next to 'My Account Details' 4. Enter your password at the top (for security) 5. Scroll down until you get to the 'your photo' and 'your avatar' section. Click the 'change/edit' link. 6. Click the 'upload a new image' link and browse your hard drive for a .JPG file. Enter a caption and description and click 'upload'. 7. After you have uploaded your new image you'll need to return to the 'change/edit' page. Click the image you want to use, and then click the 'select photo' button above the image. 8. At the top of the page you will see the following statement: "Since the forums run on a different machine, you will need to re-register the changes before they will take effect" Click on "re-register" and your forum profile will update. Hope this helps Mike
  11. I was hoping for an update, maybe still out caching??? Mike
  12. If you just walk around argueing with yourself people tend to leave the area and leave you alone.
  13. We have a Magellan Sportrak Pro and have found 621 caches with it. It is a nice unit easy to use and you got a really good price. Mike
  14. They should work fine together. Check Baud rate make sure they are the same for each device. May want to post this in the GPS Units and Software forum. Someone will have the answers you need. Mike
  15. We have always said "Are you geocachers" usually if they are we talk a little about geocaching and will try to help them find it. If we find it first we might step back and say we know where it is and if they want to know will give them hints or if they want to keep looking we will wait till they find it also before we log it. I think its really fun whenever we meet other cachers at a cache site. Mike
  16. Are the e-mails forums you are tracking or caches you have on a watch list. What type of e-mails are you receiving?
  17. We have 235 caches within 25 miles of our home. We have found 621. I didn't realise how often we go beyond 25 miles to go caching. Mike
  18. There was a cache hidden on a school ground here in CA that was recently found and the bomb squad was called and they blew it up, I believe in Modesto. They evacuated the school. With everyone so worried about terrorism I think it is best to find somewhere other than school grounds. Mike
  19. Since this is the getting started forum I don't think we need to worry to much if it is in another thread. Since they are new to this we should just try to help them.
  20. Digital Fish is one teams calling card item. You can track them at... http://www.lynnmurphy.com/geocaching/tracking/index.php Mike
  21. TFTC = Thanks for the cache
  22. In a parking lot it could be hidden on a light pole, sometimes the bottom base slides up and you will find the cache there or it could be magnetic attached to the pole. The cordinates could be twenty feet away or more. Start where you zero out at at look for likely hiding spots from there. Mike
  23. This cache is listed as a micro. They are usually a 35mm film cannister or smaller
