    Found Record

I do the same as Wacka. At the end of my log I write Find #XXX just so when I look back I can see how many I had at the time. Mike
  3. I think Groundspeak is doing a great job. They have created a great web site \. Our family spends more time together, more time outdoors and have had tons of fun. It is the best hobby. They also keep making good updates on the site. The only thing that could improve is finding a way to limit the complainers on the forums.
  4. I have used mine on Southwest a couple times, just held it close to the window. Its fun to see elevation and speed and ETA. Mike
  5. We use an Axim 3, GPX Sonar and Mapopolis. Mapopolis has a GPX to Maplet application to put the cache locations on your maps. Mapopolis has a free trial version. Its great. Mike
  6. I think it would be great. A lot of geocachers would be interested in this also. I see no problem with this. Mike
  7. My favorite is restrooms nearby. We are looking for restrooms almost as often as caches!
  8. I have active sync and use GPX Sonar without any problems. On active sync under connection settings do you have allow usb connection with this computer checked, if connecting via usb? Just a guess. Mike
  9. If I attend a cache event I log "Attended Cache Event" even if I hosted event, Lots of times we co-host so it doesn't show up on placed. I like to click on events under our profile to see all cache events we have been to. Mike
  10. My favorite clue was Mute mutt over caffeinated. We couldn't figure out what the clue meant even after we found the cache. A few months later we met the cache hider and asked him to explain the clue. Mute mutt = barkless Over caffeinated = high. It was high in a barkless tree. Mike
  11. I enjoy reading the forums and have started to express my opinion more often. I can't remember ever being flamed or posted down too. Its fun to see how the topics go. I don't think there is as much complaining about geocaching.com as there usde to be. One thing in a printed post you can usually take a comment different ways, somebody may post something is jest, but who ity is intended to may take it seriosly. It is hard to tell the tone of the message in a printed message. Mike
  12. If your picture is too large a file to upload there is a great picture resizer tool from Microsoft. It is a free download. After you install it right click on any picture and choose resize picture choose small and it will convert it into a file small enough to upload on the cache pages. Here is the link, look for the picture resizer download. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...ppowertoys.mspx
  13. Once you log a cache go back to the cache page and under your log is a link to upoad a picture. click on it and follow directions
  14. There is a series of caches in a nearby city called Snow White and the seven Dwarfs. Each Dwarf is a regular cache each one has a numer. You have to find all seven dwarfs and prince charming which gives you the code for putting all the numbers together for finding Sno White. That way you can do it in small peices or all in one day. The folks who like finds get a find for each stage. Mike
  15. Event logs say attended. So you can attend your own event. I don't get the point of this cache though. I think its fun when people post their found it and didn't find notes. Why make a cache to irritate most of the cachers. If I find a cache I am posting a find. I don't see why anyone should be allowed to delete logs unless they are untrueful or vulgar. Mike
  16. They have this feature here on the forums, when you log on at the top of the page is View New Posts, brings up all new posts since last logged in. That would be great on my cache page. When you just look for found today you only see logs that were logged today. Some caches are slow to post there logs. I would like to read them even if they found it a few days ago they are still new logs. Mike
  17. Groundspeak did the proper thing. If anyone wants to contribute this does not stop them in any way. There are many ways to contribute to the charity of your choice. If you were only going to send in a donation to get a find then you were not sincere in your contribution anyway. Mike
  18. She has a family that loves and cares about her. Things will work out. Sometimes they just take time.
  19. By DANIEL YEE, Associated Press Writer ATLANTA - The unprecedented American outpouring of tsunami-relief donations has some charities fearing a phenomenon they saw after Sept. 11 — a drop-off in contributions for soup kitchens, shelters, museums and other ordinary needs closer to home. "There's no question in my mind it will be impacted — we saw what happened in 9-11," said Paul Kane, an executive with United Jewish Appeal-Federation of New York, which helps the needy across the United States and saw donations fall $2 million below projections in 2001, which contributions poured in to Sept. 11 charities. U.S.-based relief agencies have received more than $200 million in donations from individuals and corporations for victims of the tsunami disaster. Some charities say it is too early to see any effect on giving to organizations not involved in the relief effort, but they have a pretty good idea of what is going to happen, at least in the short term. "If people are giving more and more to disaster relief, there is obviously fewer dollars that may be otherwise committed to other charitable organizations," said Philip Coltoff, chief executive of the Children's Aid Society of New York, which relies on donations for half its $75 million budget.
  20. I just checked his stats and no finds listed. I really hope he finds it and see's how much fun he can have. I just hope he doesn't get discouraged and quit. Mike
  21. Geocachers like to give. I remember when El Diablo had a raffle for Make a Wish many people were happy to contribute. Last week when a cacher was missing from her family many geocachers were ready to drop whatever they were doing to help. I think geocachers are a great group. The problem arises when one charity event is allowed and others equal or greater oare denied. I have already sent money to this cause but if geocaching.com had a organized money raising effort I would contribute again just to show non geocacher what a great organization we belong too. Mike
