  1. We attended GWIV in Jacksonville, FL hosted by NEFGA. The Florida group did an awesome job of organizing an event for over 500 people. The big question at GWIII is who wants to host GWIV. They were hoping it would be out on the west coast in 2006. Are there any groups capable and willing of taking on such a huge task. It could even be a multi group effort but this would take someone with very good skills at organizing a large group of people. Anyone voluteers???
  2. I am sending payment for 10 coins. Thanks, Mike
  3. Whats up with the Florida cache approver. This event was approved over a month ago now is being archived??? Here is his reasoning. May 10 by FloridaCacher (1 found) Upon further review of the current event guidelines this cache was mistakenly approved by FloridaCacher. This event cache page is being archived. The event and everything involved with it is still in place. The event guidelines specify that all components of an event must be listed on one cache page therefore this cache page is being archived. FloridaCacher I feel since is on a different day than GWlll, You don't have to attend GWlll to go to the meet and greet. Why now?
  4. We are coming from Oroville, CA. We fly out of Sacramento on the 26th and fly back home on the 31st. There are at least two other families coming from the NUTS group (Northstate Unusual Treasure Seekers and a few groups from the RCGDS group from the Sacramento area. Most of us are staying at the Best Western in Mayport. We can't wait to meet evryone. Mike, Gail & Maggie
  5. Once you get poison oak the best relief we have found is to us an electric hair dryer. Blow the hottest air you can stand and it evaorates the oil out of the rash and it stops itching for hours at a time. It feels so good as the hot air goes over the rash...it feels as if your scratching it but your not irritating it like scratching does. Mike Escapades
  6. We had a local cacher move out of state and he has many good hides. We have a watch on his caches in our area and if a problem occurs we fix the problem. same for his caches in other areas others are watching them. Mike
  7. We have hosted or co-hosted a number of event caches and would never be involved in a members only cache event. We are always trying to show off our hobby to all that is interested. I think its great when we have newbies at our events. I don't see how paying 30 bucks a year makes anyone a more serious geocacher...I know I'm not a serious cacher, just here to have fun in the outdoors. We became paying members right off just to support the site. I wouldn't go to a members only event...guess we are just not serious geocachers. Mike
  8. Its really slow for us today also. It has been much better than in the past, maybe just a temp. glitch. Mike
  9. my pq's came through ok, maybe a little later than normal, but still today
  10. We have a nine year old daughter who used to be terrified of cemeteries but after going to a few caches , reading headstones, thinking about life she now knows that these are not terrible places with ghosts and goublins. She knows these were just normal people with normal lives . She is very respectful and does cito with us. I think it is a good learning experience. Mike
  11. It was named wally world. He knew where he was going. It was rated 1/1. I don't see how he was disapointed. He should have knew exactly what to expect. There was no reason to be rude. If you go to find wally world micro rated 1/1 don't expect a hike in the country. He should have not gone in the first place. The hider didn't try to deceive anyone with what the cache was going to be. It was exactly as described. So if you seek it out you should write thanks for the cache and keep rude opinions to your self. Mike
  12. I think there is a lesson to be learned here...its better to go behind a tree than a lamp post?
  13. We like caches best out in the country with nice hikes...BUT sometimes when we take our 9 year old daughter and her friends they think a 1/1 is really cool. They enjoy the hunt. I just don't know how you can go find a 1/1 cache named wally world then bitch about it. What did you expect??? Why go find caches that you think are too "lame" for your taste. The other people that have found it seemed to appreciate it. If you post a DPM message and that was my cache I would reply GFY. Pardon MY french. Mike
  14. We have one hidden under a Fedex style drop box because it is across the street from a cool piece of art and there is nowhere closer to hide a cache. US postal boxes are probably not a good idea with the elevated state of alert...you just never know when the terroist are going to attack a postal box. Mike
  15. I just tried it and all pages printed fine. In print preview I could see all pages. That was with IE.
  16. Since we have started nearly two years pq's have always given the past 5 logs. Mike
  17. I'm a electrician and I think most electricians would be able to tell right away it is not a real electrical device, if not its time for a new career(LOL) Maybe it would just get us another geocacher. Mike
  18. How does having cache stats listing make you have to compete? The only way to make you compete with someone is if you want to compete with someone. I like the stats pages just so I can see so and so has more finds than before, I wonder which caches they found. I don't have the urge to run and find 5 caches because a friend found four today. Someone who logs 4,500 finds of one of his own caches has way too much time. If someone would cheat to boost his ranking they are not honorable anyway and nobody would considers their stats reliable anyway. I have never said it should be a race. I said I enjoy reading stats. Babe Ruth hit 714 career home runs, Hank Aaron hit 755, they were playing in different eras and situations just like geocachers. No one can say for certain Hank Aaron was a better home run hitter. Stats are unreliable, but they are still interesting to look at. Mike
  19. I agree geocaching is a hobby not a sport, stats are useless in geocaching and sports...but geocaching has stats like sports or just about anything else. Stats are fun to look at. My point was you cannot say so & so is the best cacher because he has the most finds. Everyone is playing in a diferent area with diferent goals and diferent amounts and levels of caches to find, BUT stats are still fun to check out and I don't see why anyone cares if there name is on a list of cache finds. Its not a secret or something to be shamed of. Geocaching is for fun. Mike
  20. Why would you care if you are on the list or not? I think its fun to see how many caches everyone has compared to others. I,m not in a race but have always enjoyed stats. I know unless everyone is equal distance from all of the caches its flawed to see who is number one. Its like comparing baseball stats from one era to another but it is still fun to check out. I guess its hard for me to understand why anyone cares. I haven't seen Willie Mays saying please don't show my stats because I didn't use steroids. It would be silly. Its a matter of record. Mike
  21. I Like the Amazing Race and Survivor. These are usually the only two shows I watch.
