  1. Agreed, but you can't always get what you want. And we have to remember that no matter how accurate the technology becomes, the user's expertise must be factored in (on two levels; the hider and the seeker). In RK's case, the user's deviant attitude must also be considered.
  2. One penny flakes off and your combo lock is usless, though. Its gorilla glue. On my test I tried to pry one off, it bent the penny first before the prybar finally popped it off. No worries. And what if some muggle comes along and glues an extra one to it?
  3. Clearpath is clearly full of the second largest denomination of the religion of Islam.
  4. Well as of just a minute ago, including my post, there were only 132 to go. With one post evey thirty seconds, you could do it by about 12:37 AM (my time)!
  5. I bumped this topic (which as Jerry started is a good, valid topic) as kind of a joke, knowing that Jerry would reply and then he would be a kind of a sock puppet replying to himself. Ha ha. But I noticed something peculiar. If you click on the number in the replies column, you can see who and how many times someone has replied to that topic. JC364 (who is also El Diablo in another world) has four posts recognized when actually, he has only made one post in this topic. El Diablo has made three posts in this topic and that what it shows when you examine who has posted here. So every time Jerry posts he’s giving JC364 a post credit too. Anyway, as I was saying, I like the hard ones.
  6. My first find occurred while I was learning exactly what the heck geocaching is. It was actually two days before I ever visited geocaching.com and I had only learned the word (geocaching) about an hour earlier. It was this cache. It would have been approximately a three mile round trip involving rough terrain, several 800 ft. elevation gains, bushwhacking, and a good hide with a traditional (ammo can) container. I say would have been, because it was on one section of a 25 mile hike, double overnight adventure on the roughest trail in Indiana. I suppose to most, that would be considered a hard cache. But because it was only a small part of a bigger adventure (and my natural talents for bushwhacking and finding things), I viewed it as pretty easy. So what is hard or easy is certainly arguable to any given individual. Disregarding any labels or difficulty ratings others may apply to a hunt, I always, without exception, enjoy a challenging hunt more than others, even if it is challenging perhaps only because I’m having a bad day.
  7. I guess it is prudent to ask permission, lest ye be edited! Edit: Just so my post will seem natural.
  8. So Jerry, what have you decided? Do most people prefer an easy cache or a hard cache?
  9. We must be looking in two different places. According to the stats on the general index page, our members have made a total of 1,760,412 posts and we have 128,364 registered members (in the forum).
  10. But wasn't it the upinyachit account that got banned? I thought that when you were banned you couldn't access your account (as well as the forums). Or did he change his username before he was banned? Or maybe he's just banned from the forums but not geocaching.com.
  11. Even though tlg (also banned) confessed to being MadMarty?
  12. I'm comfortable with either, but I get really disconnected with centigrade instead of farenheit.
  13. Have you tried using Google earth (without a GPSr) to walk straight to a cache?
  14. He was who I had in mind when I started the topic. Yeah, I know he's not banned, but heck maybe we should ban him just so we can bring him back and have a beer or to to celebrate. Nice to know I'm in your thoughts! Has anyone ever been banned and actually allowed back, or is it a one way street?
  15. Has anyone put a cache there? Sounds like a good spot A little research reveals that Daviess county is east of Vincennes, not west (I copied that from a website; you can't believe everything on the internet); that would put the center near Washington, IN. A search by zipcode (47501) shows no caches in the vicinity claiming to be at the center of the US mean population. A search by keyword (population) turns up several caches around the country, most being mean population centers of states and none listed as the pop. center of the US. So apparently there is not a cache. Back to Coffeyville, being the center of the Google universe, that too seems like a logical cache location. Perhaps some kind of mystery cache would work well there (I haven't searched for caches near there).
  16. Thanks for the vote! Not banned. His last post was about two months ago; I still get an occasional email from Sparky.
  17. Searching by another method, I was able to find upinya who was banned after only one post in the forums. That post was signed D., and given the content, I have to assume that it was Duane. Searching for upinyachit produces no results.
  18. J5. Interesting, it seems you cannot search for a member who has been banned.
  19. This gives me an idea. What if the decoy is actually the cache? New, they're a bit expensive, but a used one well hidden and tethered in a marsh might make a ducky container!
  20. Coffeyville may be the center of the world according to Google, but according to the US Bureau of the Census, The Median Center of US Population is located at the intersection of two median lines, a north-south line constructed so that half of the nation's population lives east and half lives west of it, and an east-west line selected so that half of the nation's population lives north and half lives south of it. The 2000 US Census data shows the Median Center of US Population has moved to a point in northeast Daviess County approximately 20 miles west of Vincennes, Indiana.
  21. The first words out of my mouth (in these forums) were ..."don't sweat the dead stuff!" I wasn’t bashful; my first post occurred on May 6, 2003, only about two weeks after my join date. A little over two years ago I created the topic, “The First Words Out Of My Mouth Were…” encouraging forum participants to reveal their very first post. The topic is still open if you choose to play.
